First Look At What A Night Stalker MV-75 Cheyenne Will Look Like
Remcin@reddit
“The Osprey isn’t killing enough of our troops. We need another!”
fascin-ade74@reddit
So basically an Osprey on Ozempic.
kaosf@reddit
Sure, but with a fixed wing section and static engines (just the propellors tilt). Significant reduction in complexity.
dreaminginteal@reddit
Except for the driveshaft having to bend...
FrenchMaddy75@reddit
The technology used in engine nacelles varies !
Swagasaurus-Rex@reddit
Anyone know what those cylindrical air intakes are on the sides of the hinged propeller?
They almost look like jet engines.
Danziz@reddit
You mean the outboard jet engines? The jet turboprop engines that power the propellers through a hinged driveshaft? Those jet engines?
peteroh9@reddit
Not being a passive aggressive dick to someone asking a question doesn't cost anything.
Danziz@reddit
You know what. I deserve that. I was trying to channel my inner Kronk.
ElvisDumbledore@reddit
It was kinda dickish but it was also funny. 🤣
wrongwayup@reddit
If I had to guess, venturis to pull cool air into the exhaust for noise/IR attenuation. Like the hush kits of old.
Youare-Beautiful3329@reddit
Those air intakes are the problem, Jack.
cat_prophecy@reddit
What is the size comparison between the Cheyenne II as the Osprey? It looks significantly more svelte.
thedeuce75@reddit
Are they putting guns on it or are we making the same mistake that they made with Osprey? Because a DZ could never be hot right? /s
SchreiberBike@reddit
If it can fly without crashing as often as the Osprey, it could be a great thing. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accidents_and_incidents_involving_the_V-22_Osprey .
boreduser127@reddit
Just a smaller osprey with a more diverse role set and more mature technology. I was a bit sad that the SB-1 didn’t win but I think this is also a good design.
fascin-ade74@reddit
Don't know about capabilities but i prefer the look of the contra rotation copters with the push prop that Sikorsky and Boing were working on.
Adrian_Shoey@reddit
Boing
fascin-ade74@reddit
Only just noticed the typo but i actually think i prefer it 😁

Oink oink boink boink

Evocative of countless science fiction dreams.
CardinalOfNYC@reddit
This technology, in actual flying form, far predates any scifi movie I know of that has used it. So it's kinda the other way around.
The predecessor to modern tiltrotors, the Bell VX 15, first flew in 1977
Xav_NZ@reddit
I mean these things look very close to the Avatar ships which looked like an Osprey and a Blackhawk had a baby.
Biolume_Eater@reddit
Still lowkey in awe that the V-22 Osprey is fully in use and not some experimental concept art.
Youare-Beautiful3329@reddit
The V22 proved to be remarkably tough when facing ground fire. I think they added additional protection to the cabin floor.
GrafZeppelin127@reddit
I’ve not heard of this. Are we talking about small arms fire, or have they survived more heavy and formidable ordnance?
A_Vandalay@reddit
The door gun in image 2 makes me wonder if hitting the props will be an issue, first time a helo has had to deal with rotors below the airframe
AverageAircraftFan@reddit
Either lock rotation to not traverse to the props or lock the trigger when they’re pointing to the props. Not nearly the first time a gun has been in line with parts of the aircraft
erhue@reddit
this is not an Osprey replacement, right? Looks too slender for the job
GrafZeppelin127@reddit
Two different weight classes, like how a C-130 and a C-5 are both cargo transports, but vary wildly in capability.
A_Vandalay@reddit
No, osprey is a naval aircraft and needs folding wings for that purpose. This aircraft would need a major redesign to fill that role
et40000@reddit
It’s supposed to replace the Blackhawks first as far as Ospreys go idk.
HKTLE@reddit
Very sexy.
Edarneor@reddit
Hey! :) sorry to nag you again. I see you're bein active on reddit but not replying yo my DMs. Are they coming through? could you please take a look? Thanks!
DukeBradford2@reddit
Is this just a Raider? I really wished they made the wing fold like an osprey so it could do naval ops
A_Vandalay@reddit
The fact that it doesn’t will dramatically reduce complexity, weight and cost. Why add all that when the osprey already serves that role for the marines/navy?
Vadhakara@reddit
I can't wait to find out what kinds of new and interesting ways they'll have to lose oil pressure during critical maneuvers such as "Staying in the air".

Getting Star Wars vibes off the last pic
NoDoze-@reddit
I've seen renderings of what it'll look like years ago, it's not "the first look".
