Indiana Jones wasn’t irrelevant to the plot.

It was a life lesson to GenX! Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Check yourself Sheldon.

They had the wrong length staff and wouldn’t have found the ark without him

If Indiana Jones hadn't shown up in Nepal they would have had the medallion and known the right length of staff.
EdwardBil@reddit
If he hadn't shown up in Nepal they never would have known Marian had the medallion.

So you're saying he was important to the story?
peter_gibbones@reddit
Indiana!!? Indiana!!! We named the dog Indiana!
OreoSpeedwaggon@reddit
You were named after the dog?!?! HAHAHAHAHAAA!
ChronoMonkeyX@reddit
Sallah is so great.
Sharp-Constant512@reddit
The story was about Indiana

Can you explain "Check yourself Sheldon"? I don't recall a Sheldon in any of the movies.
hornbri@reddit
There was an episode of the big bang theory where Amy’s ruins Indiana Jones for Sheldon by pointing out he was irrelevant to the plot of the movie.
Here is the clip - https://youtu.be/kgfMQ7Tk3r0

He blew up the Flying Wing which was on its way to Berlin, presumably to deliver the Ark directly to der fuhrer. So Indy potentially interrupted a divine hit job on Hitler.
Jolly-Guard3741@reddit
In this way Indiana might have even CAUSED WWII. Had he not prevented the Ark from going to Berlin Hitler and the entire ruling elite of the Third Reich could have been effectively nuked in 1939.

As an aside, I know many like Last Crusade better, and it is very good and funnier, but Raiders will always be my fave. I wasn’t a big fan of making Brody and Sallah comic relief. I liked them with more gravitas

My wife likes the third better. I like the first. We don’t talk about anything that came after the third.
ajcpullcom@reddit
He wasn’t irrelevant to this dude
freakdageek@reddit
It’s the point of the movie.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
Certainly not the point I came away with when I saw it at age 14.
x100139@reddit
Yeah, the nawtzies had no clue where Ravenwood was, so, if Indiana hadn't taken the bait and tracked down Marion, the nawtzies would never have found the ark. So, there's that.
wheredidyoustood@reddit
First thing I thought of. The guy they focus on the plane is obviously a bad guy
PrettylightedUMphrek@reddit
Technically Amy was the one who pointed out that Dr Jones had no relevance to the plot. lol
StandByTheJAMs@reddit
Technically, we manned the dog Indiana.
belinck@reddit
Life is pain.
tanhauser_gates_@reddit
Ravenwood was dead.
Thirsty4Knowledge911@reddit
It was fun to watch and foundational to cinema. The plot doesn’t really matter.
