Sports car with drama?

Hey all, I've been over researching my next sports car purchase for the better part of 2 years but need some advice. I come from some older euro models in the past (2006 325i and 2012 Audi a5) back in the day but now in my mid 30s looking for something raw, dramatic, emotional. I don't need a daily driver and I may do a track day here and there but overall more likely spirited canyon runs.
Requirements: Price point right around $100k, manual, less headaches the better but can do my own maintenance. I love the 997 911 generation but it's hard to justify the current market price (wondering if it's a bubble?). GT4 is in the mix but will need to up the budget. Lastly, looking at a Ferrari 360 that I know will scratch that itch but will require manual swap, exhaust, and I'm sure some unforeseen repairs. Let me know what you think!

Audi R8 V10. I worked for Audi and did the product launch in Atlanta. Audi Is the Art of Engineering. For shits and giggles test drive the RS6 Avant.

The maintenance costs though. :(

If properly maintained an Audi will last a lifetime. I'm driving a 2008 A6 avant with the 3.2L Normally Aspirated V6.

Buying an expensive car with the wrong transmission and doing a manual swap on it sounds like a terrible idea when you could spend a bit more and get one with the right transmission in the first place. Especially when you consider what that is likely to do to resale value.

You still undercut a factory gated manual 360 by at least 20k by manual swapping an automatic one.
That's money I'd rather set aside for maintenance tbh.
Worst case scenario it does absolutely nothing to the already abysmal resale value that an automatic 360 has lol.

Lotus elise, caterham, ariel atom. Not an Emira, it’s not raw enough. GT4 might be an option as a 981, 718 is too modern. 911’s not really an option if you like it raw, they offer different things but not that compared to the suggestions

Get a 981 cayman gts. Save money for mods

Viper. It's half car half murderer

Buy a new Miata and supercharge it

Just get a Mustang GT. They’re fast as fuck, plenty of drama, and you can save like 50 grand.

I have 718 gt4 manual with bucket seats and ceramic brakes. For the budget i would look into 981 cayman gt4. Solid build quality and less depreciation than other brands with all the things you want

With $100,000 you can find a very nice 982 Cayman GTS 4.0L which is perfect for your described use case. I (briefly) had one and if not for the lack of a third pedal it would have been perfect. Find one with a manual and you’ll never let it go.
Oak510land@reddit
I would just get any m car and throw the rest into track days and tires.
therin_88@reddit
Not sports cars though.

Lotus. Aston V8 vantage. Viper. Mustang gt350.
therin_88@reddit
Lotus I'd recommend.
Have driven the other 3 you mentioned and those are not good cars. The Aston is a big heavy GT car. Viper is a track hammer that is uncomfortable and difficult to drive. Mustang is not even miles away from being a sports car.
I'd take a base model C7 Corvette manual over any of those.

Lots of 911 variants recommended here, but the 911 company also has a mid engine 2-seater that can be had cheaper. I like the version with the cloth top that goes down, because I like the extra drama of the wind in what’s left of my hair, but they also make a steel roof coupe version.
Lotus makes some terrific stuff.
Why are we talking about converting a Ferrari 360 to three-pedals when Ferrari has already built some of those that way? Just get one like that. (I have an irrational love for the 328/308 cars, and those are nearly 100k now.)
A good friend of mine builds restomod corvettes, mostly c2 but the occasional c1 and sometimes a c3, with modern brakes and modern-ish chassis and LS power. I don’t know if 100k would do it these days, because the parts and materials are more expensive. But for some people, a ‘66 roadster finished to a higher standard than anything GM ever built, with a 7-liter aluminum small block shouting through side pipes, with enough suspension and brake and tire capability to make at least some sort of use out of that power in a 2,600 lb car, is the right flavor of drama. (If we’re doing one for me, a c1 with an LS3 would be fine.)

Ferrari 360 Modena. You’re welcome.

A Caterham is probably the most raw experience on 4 wheels. It sounds like a manual Cayman GT4 is what you want, so just get that. The perfect car doesn't exist, enjoy what you're driving whatever that may be.

4.7l Aston Martin v8 vantage
Audi r8
V6 lotus emira
Alfa Romeo 4c

I recommend the GT3, it's an awesome, fast, great handling driver's car. If you want a similar experience for less money an AUDI R8 V10 AWD. My ultimate pick would be the Lamborghini Huracan V10 AWD.
Ok_Two_2604@reddit
I have a boosted Ariel Atom. I suggest that if you want rear engine. Caterham if you want front engine.

If you like crowds, a mustang. If you like fear, pick the generation of viper that matches your own tolerance.

I searched for years...bought a '24 Corvette Stingray 2LT Z51. No regrets. It's the best you can get for the money, hands down.
pepeneverknew@reddit
Right now it’s hard to beat a vette at that price point. Especially with maintenance costs. It pains me to say that. But it’s true. Grandpas will love you. But some Jean shorts and start growing the mullet now.
CommissarCiaphisCain@reddit
I love the Lotus Emira. The supercharged V6 version has a Toyota sourced engine and is available with a manual transmission.
pisspeeleak@reddit
I’d love a lotus one day. They’re cool because they are just “car”. But because of that they don’t seem like something most people would like being a passenger in
quik916@reddit
So you've been researching for 2 years? Wow... in that time have bought a few cheaper cars and tried them out rather than sitting on the sidelines doing "research " for 2 years.
You're hyper focused on the "perfect" car all the whipe you've burned 730~ days of opertunity. I mean atleast go buy a $5k miata and have some fun... you never know when you're gonna wake up dead. Dont overthink... and if you want a car buy it don't worry about a price "bubble " you dont take a car to the track if you expect to get a return on your "investment " since cars are basically a stupid burn if money... fun and enjoying the fruits of your labor is the ROI, not dollars.

997 911 generation is still one of the best driving experiences ever made.
