Bulky keys problem

With 2 car key fobs plus my other keys it is annoying to keep this in my pocket. What do you do with your keys? I know previous generations would hook it on a belt loop. Not sure if there is a different solution. Thanks
GABigBear@reddit
I hate key jingle, so I use one of these.
Big77Ben2@reddit
25 yrs ago when I got a motorcycle, I also had my first bulky car key. That’s when I first separated the car key from the bundle, and my bike keys were separate too. No more giant bundle hanging from the dash, and they tend to sit better in my pocket. Now I only have 2 keys, but I still keep them separate from the car fob.
Temporary-Library597@reddit
Separate the fobs and have house keys on each. Hang those on a key-rack near the door you exit. Put your office keys in your work bag.
Carrying around two fobs is...I donno, weird?
mlee12382@reddit
I still keep mine on a carabiner attached to my belt loop.
Imbriglicator@reddit
You tie them to your belt? But that is where you keep your onion!
don51181@reddit (OP)
Might be my choice. I wear long shirts so it will cover it up. Thanks.
yamahowzer@reddit
Most jeans you can use a side loop and tuck them into a back pocket so they don't jingle
don51181@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah thanks
82Rellik@reddit
I had to split my keys up into 2 different key rings. 1 for work, 1 for personal
don51181@reddit (OP)
Yeah I might split mine depending on the vehicle I take. Really no need to take the fob for the vehicle I am not driving. I could make a complete set for each vehicles. Thanks
_shaftpunk@reddit
Keys on a carabiner, attach whatever fob you need before leaving.
Negative-Wrap95@reddit
jgntrash@reddit
This is what my wife and I have. We don’t personal key sets anymore, we have each car’s key fob with a house key on it.
1_4M_M3@reddit
What if you go somewhere on foot or by bus? Do you keep another set with just the house keys?
PmMeSmileyFacesO_O@reddit
No just a compass and snacks
jgntrash@reddit
Yep we grab our bowie knives and hope for the best
bitsy88@reddit
Most stressful part of the trip is making sure you get home before the streetlights come on or mom will be pissed.
ReferredByJorge@reddit
I’m late to this, but i split my keys and fobs up by task. I live in a walkable community, so sometimes i just need house keys. Sometimes I’ll also need car keys/fobs and grab the ones that I’ll need. Sometimes I’ll need keys for hobbies/activities and those are on another ring.
It’s sometimes inconvenient to have to dig through your pockets to grab the right keys, but it’s easier than carrying excess 100% of the time.
FionaGoodeEnough@reddit
I don’t know how people manage this. I would probably always forget one or the other.
red286@reddit
My work keys are always in my work bag.
If I forget my work bag, the missing keys are the least of my problems.
someguyfromsk@reddit
That is what I do too. I have my "go keys" which is just the vehicle FOB, house key, and garage key.
Then a "everything else" keyring, which has a small carribeaner on it if I need to attach it to that \^\^ one for whatever reason.
Loan-Pickle@reddit
I don’t care keys anymore. I can use my watch or phone for my car, and I can use a code for the house.
Colambler@reddit
I have a code on my door so I don't need a house key.
So it's just my car key if I'm driving. If I'm not driving it's no keys
juicinginparadise@reddit
Yup. Spent the money on a few high end keyless locks for my home and office. Now all I carry is my car key, which is keyless as long as I have it in my pocket. Combined with Apple Pay, I sometimes don’t even carry a wallet.
Recently went out of the country for spring break and most of the vendors and businesses were cashless. Loved walking around with nothing but my phone.
AnxietyFine3119@reddit
A great way to not worry a out tanlines too
nitrot150@reddit
Same with me for the door, and all our cars (except one that doesn’t get driven much ) have fobs that you don’t need to click (door sensor)… so I don’t really deal with keys much
Melechesh@reddit
I got called a psycho for only carrying my car fob and no keys or keychains.
OnlyGuestsMusic@reddit
Get a Keysmart organizer.
Excellent-Source-348@reddit
neck lanyard or carabiner, I used to think it was dumb looking, but i can see how it can be useful.
truefriend29@reddit
True story: 3 months after I had graduated from high school, I was confronted/cussed out by my boomer mother for having too many items where my house keys sit. As it turns out, it was actually a key chain that was a little bit "bulky" in that area, and it had to be removed soon after.😡🔑🗝️🚪
Disneyhorse@reddit
My phone is my car key and my home is also keyless. So I don’t carry any keys. Technology is great for some things!
stareweigh2@reddit
wait till you wake up one morning and everything has unlearned itself in the middle of the night somehow. happened to us and our garage door openers were also unlearned at the same time. can't figure out what happened but I was late for work figuring out how to reprogram the wife's keys to her car. I absolutely hate keyless vehicles and push button start.
Disneyhorse@reddit
Hmmm. It’s been a decade so far and haven’t had any issues so at least the probability is low. I’m okay with first world problems.
stareweigh2@reddit
lol. I'm an automotive technician and there are certain things that people like comfort wise that I can't stand. mostly because I know what problems lie in wait. sometimes ignorance is bliss. I also hate working on my own stuff.
TrustInRoy@reddit
So easy to get into cars like that. You must live in a low crime area.
Disneyhorse@reddit
I am fortunate to live in a low crime area. But people have been breaking into cars since the beginning, regardless of technology. Catalytic converter theft has been a major problem in my city (they got my neighbors) but I’ve got an electric car and park in a garage.
surSEXECEN@reddit
Same. And my wallet only contains 5 cards. Everything else is on Apple Wallet.
skwidface3000@reddit
I use a thing called keysmart, all the keys fold into it to keep them out of the way. They hold a bunch of keys
burnitdwn@reddit
I hate how big car key fobs are. I only keep a small number of keys on my keychain that i take everywhere with me.
1: my keyfob for my daily driver
2: main house door key
3: second house key
4: key i need for work
5: trigger lock key
We have all our other keys in a drawer organized ready for if we need them, but i dont carry them and wife doesnt carry them with us regularly.
apt_get@reddit
That's a lot of damn keys. I have 2 fobs, 1 for our car and one for our truck. The one I'm driving is the one I pick up. House locks are keypads. Work key is just a badge. Mail or whatever else just stays on a hook by the door.
Mike__O@reddit
I don't carry keys. I usually access my house through the garage door, which is unlocked and protected by the closed garage doors. The exterior door has a keypad if I need to get in from the outside with the garage doors closed
bendybiznatch@reddit
I put them in my purse. lol
Sinead_0_rebellion@reddit
Same. I have mine on a small carabiner, so I hook that to the strap of my purse and tuck them inside, so they are easy to grab when I need them.
yodellingllama_@reddit
I ditched the fobs entirely. Lucky enough to have slightly older vehicles (2011 and 2016) that still have separate, physical keys.
monstermack1977@reddit
each of my vehicle fobs have their own quick disconnect ring. Each fob has its own house key and nothing else. If I need other keys, they are on the other side of the quick disconnect bit.
Halladay_lights_77@reddit
Ususally keep keys for everything on a carabiner attached to my beltloop. But I now have a digital car key on my phone, wireless house entry, and even work has gone to an phone app or keycard for entry. So, I keep trying to talk myself into only going that route and not carry any physical keys. I just don't like relying only on new technology that can fail and leave you stranded.
sunkistandsudafed3@reddit
I have a handbag, feel like a prison guard with the amount I'm carrying around.
mookpa2@reddit
Ooh that’s bulky. What are all these keys for? Are you a boss, boss?
AshDogBucket@reddit
Carabiner on a belt loop. I mean, I wear women's pants so I've never been able to put my keys in my pockets. But also, the biner clip evidently is an indication of being queer or something 🤷♀️ so it's practical and it's a secret signal.
Wapiti_whacker82@reddit
I have three different keychains. One that only holds my vehicle key, one for personal life locks, and one for my work keys.
HuckleberryHappy6524@reddit
Same here. I keep my vehicle keys by themselves. I leave my house keys in my shop when I leave since I always go through my shop when I get home. When I leave for extended periods, the house keys go in the vehicle I’m in. 95% of the time I’m out, I leave my F150 key in the truck since I have the buttons on the door to get in. My wife’s keychain looks like she’s a cross between a head custodian of a skyscraper and a freelance knickknack salesman.

Sufficient_Turn_9209@reddit
Door codes and myQ (or your preferred app) for your house. Idk what to offer on the two key fob problem, which is where your bulk really is. We've got one and our phones are the key to our other vehicle. Edit. I didn't know you can install this on any car aftermarket! DroneMobile

Great68@reddit
I keep my car fobs separate from house keys. No need to take the car fob when I'm not using the car. And since we have multiple cars that my wife and I will switch between, when we do drive we only need to take the fob of the car we want to drive.
IchibanChef@reddit
I only keep the fob of the car i am driving with me. Carrying both just seems unnecessary. I can only drivenone car at a time. I keep my house keys and work keys separated too. Work keys stay in my work bag. My house keys are in my console while I am out and about. When home they are in my cubby. So most of the time the only thing in my pocket is a single key fob.
schleepercell@reddit
My fobs each have their own ring with a house key. I have motorcycles, just the MC key and nothing else on those rings. Then I have a ring with just a house key and a fob that opens the garage. I put it in my pocket when im out on an MC. They all sit together in a Frisbee near the door. The smart key fob is in a farraday cage.
BrambleVale3@reddit
I have a “main” keychain and then sub keychains for whatever car I decide to drive that day. Most of the sub key chains are just a fob and a house key. The main keychain never leaves my pocket.
snoopyh42@reddit
I have one key fob for my car and zero keys that I carry regularly. The fob is relatively slim (compared to some other brands). I have a key to my mom's apartment... somewhere. My house has a fingerprint / PIN pad deadbolt on the front door and an app-controlled garage door opener.
Granted, this may not be the strongest security profile overall, but it works for me.
zffjk@reddit
If I don’t use it every day then the key goes in the key box.
drifterinthedark423@reddit
I have so many. Half of which I have no idea what on earth they are for. What can I say, I am a key whore.
don51181@reddit (OP)
Honestly I really just need to leave several at home. I don’t need them in my pocket all the time.
drifterinthedark423@reddit
Yeah, my husband basically only carries his car key and can't stand my key collection. I like having them, especially if I am walking alone or whatever. Those keys can double as weapons in a pinch!
MlsterFlster@reddit
I keep them separate, but in the same pocket. One for the car (leather strap). One for the house (nylon strap). One for work (carabiner). My pants are all baggy, so pockets dont ever feel tight. I can tell what im grabbing by feel. It has worked for me for... 26 years? That cant be right...
Cisru711@reddit
Why are you bringing 2 key fobs when you can only drive one car at a time?
don51181@reddit (OP)
I just have them all together with my house keys. I probably need to just make to smaller sets. 1 fob and the house keys. I was carrying both fobs because “you never know”. Now I see it is not needed.
Cisru711@reddit
There's like 3 times a year when we are picking up a car at the shop where I may need both sets. And, more often than not, if I end up needing to swap vehicles with my spouse, I can just grab their fob if I don't have mine.
tillyspeed81@reddit
I have a Tesla so no key fob, my front door is a keypad/ fingerprint access, so no keys to carry around. Mailbox key lives on my dog leash as I usually take my dog on walks to get mail…
FRNLD@reddit
When I had to deal with a bunch of keys I had done with one of these.
https://www.getkeysmart.com/products/keysmart_ext
I now just keep the key holder in my bag and my truck keys on a carabineer clipped to my pants, but that's because my office is my truck and I'm in and out of it enough.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
My dad had so many keys between his personal stuff, his work stuff, and his rental properties that he kept a keyring on him loaded up like he was a freaking innkeeper. lol Eventually, what he did was bought a key locker and just carried whatever he was going to need for the day with him.
I should probably do it the same honestly, because I have a million keys.
veryblanduser@reddit
I don't have a single key. And half the time I keep my car key fob in my car.
dominator5k@reddit
The only key I carry is the fob for my car. I don't have a single other key.
That being said I carry I fanny pack now
don51181@reddit (OP)
Might need to bring fanny packs back. LOL
SteelGemini@reddit
If I have car keys for multiple vehicles, each gets its own keychain and I only bring the one I'm driving. Other house keys are separate from those, and I have coded locks on my front door so I don't typically need a key to enter or lock it. I've also got many keys for work things, so those are on separate keyrings based on sites I need them at.
DDrewit@reddit
Get two of these so you can swap fobs and only carry one at a time.

I am keyless. Tesla, so I use my phone, but the “key” is a card, and that stays in my wallet. House keys are in the glovebox, but we always use the garage door, so I never need them. Bestie and a trusted neighbor have a copy of the house key in case something happens. Work is also a keycard, but that stays in my work bag, and I only pull it out when at work.
Melancholy_Rainbows@reddit
Key fob in my pocket. House uses a fingerprint reader. No other keys. Haven't owned a physical key in years.
icanhaztuthless@reddit
I only ever have the fob for the car I’m driving. My shop and house keys stay in my backpack until they’re needed. I don’t even use a traditional wallet these days. I have a MagSafe wallet stand that holds 2 forms of identification inside, and has a slot for a debit and credit card on the outside.
Impossible_Memory_85@reddit
Each fob has a house key so I only take the fob for the vehicle I’m driving.
Late-Arrival-8669@reddit
I keep my keys on a lanyard, separate from my FOB, which just has a tag attached to it (tagged for the car I drive).
Cutthechitchata-hole@reddit
I have a key ring with lick keys and my keyfob has a carabiner so i can easily seperate if im not needing my fob or house keys. My wifes fob is on a carabiner too
Architorture_66@reddit
After finding out several times that I accidentally popped open the trunk on my car carrying around these things, I either keep it in my lunch box or drawer.
When wearing shorts, I've switched to cargo shorts simply for the larger thigh pockets to carry my key fobs and smart phone.
No_Gap_2700@reddit
On my keyring, I have one key (house) and my key fob for the car. That's it. I enter the house through my garage so I barely use the house key. Work access is door access badge and the massive amount of keys I need for work are on one of these. Here I keep this on an inside pocket in my laptop back pack that I always have at work. Keeps my pocket from being over run with keys.
Not a huge fan of the organizer, but for no more than I use it, it does the job.
BeenisHat@reddit
I still rock the small carabiner on the belt loop. But I have pared down the number of keys I carry. I keep keys for both cars on the ring, a house key for my elderly in-laws in case I need to get in and my Gerber Shard.
olhado47@reddit
I have come to terms with the fact that I simply don't have keys anymore, except for the set I leave in the car as absolute backups which I have not used in years.
Front door uses bluetooth.
Car uses bluetooth.
Car uses garage door opener.
Work used RFID badge.
FidgitForgotHisL-P@reddit
I can’t help with the fobs, but I’d definitely recommend a key-homding-device such as keysmart, there they’re all pressed together with two bits of metal on the side. Definitely makes it less cumbersome.
Have a look at the keysmart website to see what I mean, then go to AliExpress or temp to buy the same idea for a tenth of the price though lol…
yokramer@reddit
From when I had a car with a key I always had 2 rings because heavy weight on the cylinder is bad. 1 ring that is my house and if I had work keys and then my car keys. Would just grab the keys to the car I was driving at the time and my “home keys” always stayed in my pocket.
Spartan04@reddit
I separated them. I have one key ring that’s just my car fob and house key. If I had a second car I wouldn’t carry both fobs, I’d attach a second house key to the other one and just grab which one I need. I work from home now but when I worked in the office I kept my work keys on their own ring and would put them in a pocket on my work bag when I left the office each day.
edasto42@reddit
I have two carabiners. One for the one car, the one for the other. I just clip them on and go. If I’m wearing an outfit that it will look tacky with, it’s usually paired with a jacket, or something else like a vest or something, and will put them in the interior pocket.
Jimmy_McAltPants@reddit
I keep the fob for my wife’s car separate. All I ever carry with me is my fob, house key, and mailbox key. I don’t want all that extra stuff in my pocket
Squirrel_Master82@reddit
I have a bunch of keys on my ring that I have no idea what they fit. But I'm afraid if I toss them, I'll find out why I needed them.
Expensive-Day-3551@reddit
I got a key fob that all the keys fit into like a Swiss Army knife. It keeps them from getting bent or tangled with things in my pocket. It has a hook for your car remote, but the car key fits in with the other keys
TexMoto666@reddit
My key fobs aren't attached to the rest of my keys. I have a small key tag with my house key and mailbox key I keep separately. I just grab that and the key/fob for whichever vehicle or motorcycle I'm taking that day.
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
I have one key fob and one house key. Work is a card.
