Always 2 seats. There was a trainer with an awkward bubble second canopy, but that’s probably so the trainee could actually see forward. Unlike the back-seat persons in an SR-71
They had one pulled out from the belly. Didn’t take a pic, sorry. But I was surprised to see it was about a 5-ft long cylinder with a 90° mirror to look straight down.
Today I stopped dreaming of becoming an AF pilot (age 57). I realize now there’s no way I could get into almost any of those jets. MRI machine proved that for me.

March air museum SR-71 up close
zimbu646@reddit
This is so cool. Fun fact, the Museum of Flight in Seattle has an SR-71 cockpit section you can actually sit in!
weakplay@reddit
Good Lordy, what is that on the headrest?
oxfordfreestyl@reddit
That's what we in the meat smoking community call seasoning!
SuperiorTuba@reddit
Wait a damn second, you can sit in one?!
... I gotta make a phone call.
Hour_Bit_5183@reddit
That thing is a thing of beauty if I've ever seen one and I ain't really into aircraft. I just seen this and now I am hooked god dammit! :) :)
TouristRoutine602@reddit
I’d be flipping through a diagram key of the instruments like an old school Thomas guide map, Christ 😂
RetiredPath@reddit
Did the SR-71 have a two-seat version? I thought only the A-12 had two seats.
Early_Macaroon_2407@reddit
Trainer, I think.
RetiredPath@reddit
Oh, OK. Thanks!

Trainer is located at the Air Zoo in the great city of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

While you’re at March, don’t miss the National P-38 museum if it’s open again! Another Clarence Kelly creation!
Fresh-Word2379@reddit (OP)
It looked very closed. I walked away and forgot to ask if there was a door and then had to leave. Next time for sure!

March air museum is one of my favorite places on the planet.
Fresh-Word2379@reddit (OP)
Same, now. Add that to Warbirds/Planes of Fame, which gets you more pistons and early birds, and you have quite the collection
rxmp4ge@reddit
Have you been to palm Springs? Holy crap it's awesome.
Been to Chino a few times but the last time I was there they still had the N9M.
Now I'm sad.
RetiredPath@reddit
Great photos, btw!

Thanks!

I want to see the cameras.

That’s reasonably old school. Having the ADI and HSI flipped like that would take a minute to get used to.
qalpi@reddit
The one in the back doesn't have much of a view, is that right?
GeraintLlanfrechfa@reddit
Doesn’t need to, been managing all intelligence gathering sensors, cameras, and electronic warfare systems, also navigation.

Hahah totally agree. I had a 1.25 hour MRI last year and I needed to sneeze through most of it. Agony.
