Pontiac is coming back and GM has tasked you with picking 3 models to bring back (a car, a suv/crossover, and one model that can be rebadged from their existing lineup), Which vehicles are you choosing and why?

The success of the future of the brand rests on the success of these models otherwise Pontiac dies again. Just a fun question to think about.

Aztec, TransAm, GTO
Aztec- funky fun, cool design, way ahead of its time, the reason it failed is because they chickened out from the concept and made it share a chasis with a buick
The other two speak for themselves.
Coyoteatemybowtie@reddit
Unfortunately trans am wouldn’t work, there’s already been so much of shutting down the Camaro line and the trans am is just a rebadged and sexier Camaro
Direct_Run_3513@reddit
Put it on the CT4V platform. As much as I want a manual LT4/5 trans am, the blackwing is awesome for not being a v8. Coming from someone that’s owned 6 f bodies, I’d drive a new WS6
skinisblackmetallic@reddit
GTO badge would work better there.
Direct_Run_3513@reddit
GTO was always the big chassis. Out that on CT5 platform. F body was always the smaller pony car

FreshCords@reddit
The Camaro and Trans Am would and will always have a ceiling on them because GM will always protect the sales of the Corvette.
NoobensMcarthur@reddit
No necessarily true. Look at the typhoon/cyclone!
jondes99@reddit
Those all sold in extremely low numbers and also probably involved some sort of trickery to ever get made. Hell, I think there were more Ferrari F40s built than GNX.
The thing of it is that even cars as seemingly lame as the Fiero and Allante weren’t allowed to realize their full potential because they couldn’t upstage the Vette. So just imagine how that translates to Firebirds over the years.
CoxswainYarmouth@reddit
De tune the Corvette Body a little and add a six speed manual.
wickedcold@reddit
This is actually somewhat of a pet peeve of mine how people talk so much about the GNX almost mixing it up with the standard Grand National. Like don’t get me wrong, Grand Nationals were cool as fuck and they’re fairly uncommon to see these days. But the GNX barely existed at all. They made like 500 of them and they didn’t really “make” them in house, they sent them out to be heavily modified by ASC McClaren.
It’s not as though GNXs were all over the place.
jondes99@reddit
I’d love to know how that misconception that the GNX was as common as a K car started. I was pretty much obsessed with Grand Nationals and T-Types as a kid, and I think I’ve seen one GNX in the wild in the last 4 decades.
4RealzReddit@reddit
I would love a typhoon. For me it would be like a tall 2 door hot hatch.
ToughOk9044@reddit
Or the twin turbo V6 Trans Am....didn't that do 210mph....in the 80s😱😱😱😱😱😱
NoobensMcarthur@reddit
Not really the same since those were built by Knudsen in Nebraska. It wasn’t sanctioned by GM, but you couldn’t walk into a dealership and buy one like you could with the ones I mentioned.
zinten789@reddit
Well, luckily with the ZR1X existing the sky is basically the limit when it comes to that ceiling.
ThirdSunRising@reddit
I think the execs who are so protecting the ‘Vette will surely soon either retire or be retired by God Himself. They could cancel the corvette tomorrow; I’d like to think there are wiser people there who are aware that the goal is to make good cars across the line and not worry about protecting a nameplate from the 1950s
Dierks_Ford@reddit
Yeah. They’re not going to do anything to harm Corvette sales. Won’t happen.
ThirdSunRising@reddit
It’s a slightly different car though, the current Camaro is based on the 1st gen Camaro/Firebird while the Trans Am that matters is the late 70s Burt Reynolds one with the sleek body and the t tops, you could sell those side by side as two totally different cars. Or if you’re GM you could sell the exact same fucking car with two badges as two different cars. But I digress. As long as there is a Silverado, as long as they’re making LS engines, they can still re-enter the car market without too much hoopla.

LandCruiser76@reddit

Mac-Tyson@reddit (OP)
I feel like GM would make the Aztec an EV
LandCruiser76@reddit
I could be convinced for that IF it had a solar roof option and a solar package for the jet ski trailer the OG concept had. That could be sweet. But I would concider it viable with a hybrid drivetrain too.
Informal_Ad4399@reddit
A fold out solar roof for camping would be fire on an EV Aztec. Hard case top to protect when folded up and possibly act as a bed for kayak roof haul.
I'm imagining a central panel and 2 fold out. A hard top shell covers, and a roof rack clips into slots on either side to both hold it down and act as light duty tie downs.
digitalwankster@reddit
The weight and drag of that would be crazy though and negate any charging benefit
LandCruiser76@reddit
Omg have it double as a sun shade/ canopy?
Informal_Ad4399@reddit

DjImagin@reddit
We look at it fondly now as a dead reliable, excellent use of space and quirky car. That and it looked like nothing else on the road (which is funny how people complain everything looks the same, but when it dosent look the same they complain more).
But remember, Breaking Bad deliberately wrote Walt having an Aztek to drive home the point that Walt was an underachieving loser.
Many-Pomegranate-33@reddit
I think personally because the original Aztek was a flop that theyd keep that name away. Its associated with bad sales and marketing vibes.
Im a big Pontiac nut and I dont see them bringing that name back.
skinisblackmetallic@reddit
Things change. Breaking Bad made the Aztec name cool again and boomers , who are the primary readers Aztec originally failed, are irrelevant for any future marketing.
LandCruiser76@reddit
Why not? crossover SUV's are all the rage these days. And its become a cult classic. Its Got the name recognition, branding that people like (sporty and city focused but capable for dirt roads)- had fun packages like the cooler that went viral a couple years back, and got famous because of breaking bad- they did dog on it but everyone can point and go-thats an aztec. - they weren't lemons, just kinda ugly. And if given a half decent design team and a reasonable price point, i could see it taking off and competing with the CRV, Rav4, Blazer etc.
Many-Pomegranate-33@reddit
Im by no means saying a crossover SUV wouldnt work. By far it would.
Just the name. It was bad news back around y2k when it came out. I dont believe if GM were ever to bring Pontiac back, that theyd resurrect one of the items blamed for its demise.
I believe theyd use the Venture name but associate it with more of what the Aztec was before theyd brand the aztec again.

Pontiac's problem was a lack of identity. I would argue that Pontiac should have always EITHER been the sports focused brand, OR a mass market brand, but not both. Since Chevy has mass market covered, Pontiac should be focused on the sports line.
These can even be performance based EVs for all I care, but it needs a focused identity to keep the market from getting confused.
OkSchool619@reddit
Whichever is an EV. easy.

Cruze could be badge engineered into an amazing sport compact.
The Bonneville was a suh-weet upscale car for middle aged motorists who didn't have a foot in the grave yet.
As far as an SUV goes, I don't know. Badge engineer a crossover or SUV in the performance direction of a Range Rover Sport (see my comment below). Capable yet track-ready.
We need Pontiac back. The driver-centric interiors were amazing. Driver-centric cars have a place.

I'd actually take it a step further and say that an 03-08 Matrix/Vibe (especially XRS or GT) are the greatest cars ever built.

Car: Tempest. Small, lightweight, build for fun on a AWD-train.
Crossover/SUV/Wagon: Safari. I hate SUVs and Crossovers but wagons are great. Built to a similar form factor as the Subaru Outback and you have something pretty cool. If it must be a crossover, build it like the Crosstrack.
Rebadge: GTO on modern Camaro platform. Vertical headlights like the 67. Better visibility and less aggressive edges.
Galopigos@reddit
I'd like to see them bring back the Solstice, then a version of the Holden Ute in US trim, and the Grand Prix That would cover the sportier crowd, the luxury folks and the Ute gets the folks who like quirky trucks.

Attarker@reddit
I would bring back the G6 sedan / coupe / hardtop convertible and the Chevy Blazer would be an obvious pick to badge engineer a Pontiac crossover
ScarySpikes@reddit
Firebird - The Mustang needs competition. Make it a classic pony car, 2 doors, 2+2 seats, coupe or convertible.
Safari - It was a wagon, we're bringing it back as an SUV. Put it on the VSS-T platform the current Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon use, but in terms of design very much the Jeep Wrangler/Ford Bronco competitor that for some reason GM doesn't make. Boxy, off road focused, removable doors and removable top (both hard top and soft)
Le Mans - The rebadge, a down market CT5.
For all models, 'Trans Am' would be used for a top trim big V8 version with the upcoming C8 Grand Sport/Grand Sport X LS6.
L00PDAED@reddit
Way too many people want to use the Aztec name on the SUV, terrible idea, that car was puke on wheels. Go OG and use the Safari and Grand Safari name. In today’s market this will likely be the sales leader in the relaunch (Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V were 3rd and 4th best selling vehicles in 2025).
Car needs to be midsize sedan to compete against the Camry (8th best selling vehicle in 2025). Go with Grand Am for the 4-door family car. The same chassis make a sports package, aggressive looking (front bumper, side skirts, rear spoiler, etc.), this is the GTO.
Re badge you have to go sports car, Firebird/Camaro is the only choice just make sure to offer a T-top TransAm trim level.
Tempting to push to launch with a fourth car, an affordable compact car (Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic were 11th and 12th best sellers is 2025). Use the Phoenix name since we are talking about the rebirth of Pontiac. Could open the door to an interesting logo playing off the Firebird - affordable little brother of the sports car, could offer a T-top Fiero trim level, lol.
BondGoldBond007@reddit
If the Trans Am isn't 1000% at the top than what are we even doing here?

Car - Pontiac GTO. Full size muscle coupe bigger than the mid size Camaro designed to compete more directly with the larger Dodge Charger/Challenger.
SUV - Pontiac Vibe. A sporty hatchback crossover SUV.
Rebadged Chevy - Pontiac Fiero. A rebadged C8 Corvette with a high revving naturally aspirated in V10 based off the C8 Z06 V8 and a manual transmission option. There would be no base model, only the 700+ horsepower V10 and its performance and price would be in between the C8 Z06 and C8 ZR1.

*Car: a practical but lightweight RWD compact car, target a starting MSRP of <$30k. Focus on driving dynamics/handling over outright speed, but have a high-performance, high power, high margin trim available. Think like the 1-series RWD hatchback available in non-US markets in the early 2000s.
*SUV/crossover: who gives a fuck badge engineer something but give it firmer suspension and pretend that means it’s “sporty”.
*rebadge: ok this one’s controversial. We’re gonna bring back the Fiero by rekojiggering the Corvette platform. Smaller, lighter, fewer cylinders as standard, and crucially, CHEAPER. Available with a stick shift. Likely to sell DOZENS!

I'd like to see a new Pontiac 6000 LE. I think there was a Pontiac 2000 as well, bring that back. Then turn the fiero into a little plastic truck.
illinest@reddit
I have a Firebird proposal.
Lean into the phoenix rebirth themes. Make this new Firebird very different. Position it as GMs hybrid-electric sports car. A front-engined, fastback 2+2. No convertible.
In order to avoid competing with other GM sports cars - continue positioning the Corvette as the mid-engined exotic with 2 seats and an ICE. Also continue shrinking the Camaro's size and weight. The Camaro should compete directly with the Toyota 86.
As for the other 2 vehicles, I'm tempted to do a sports sedan but I think Buick is going to be doing that soon and there are other targets that we could chase.
So instead I want a new Fiero and I want it positioned to compete with the Miata. 4 cyl turbo with a manual transmission. 2 seats only. Rear engine.
And I suppose the last one has to be an SUV. I like the idea of redeeming the Aztec.

Grand Prix was my first thought. They were everywhere and a pretty good budget sports car. The 3800 engine was good. Paired with the super charger in the GTP version, it could really move.
A hybrid one might be good. A good EV engine for launches and to take the place of a super charger. Gas portion more geared towards long range drives. Battery range of maybe 120 to 150 miles. Not too much that it significantly increases the curb weight but enough to be useful for most as an everyday and weekend sports car.

Firebird Trans Am, GTO, Aztek. Make the SUV actually good looking and all manual V8 only. No base models. You either get all or you get nothing.
AutomaticBearBait@reddit
I think quirky should work. Fiero and Aztec, but I'd love to see a new Parisienne. Make it long and wide. Thank you.
Shroomboy79@reddit
The Grand Prix. Grand am. And gto. Used to be you’d see a Grand Prix or grand am almost anywhere you’d look and they came in so may different trim levels to and some were pretty quick for what they were to, I definitely got in trouble with my buddies moms gtp. You still see em from time to time which is noteworthy imo because don’t see any other pontiacs hardly anymore.
The gto is just badass. That doesn’t need an explanation
daubs1974@reddit
I want the 2 L turbo in a Fierro. I want it to look like the mid engine Corvette has a baby cousin. Make it with an all-wheel-drive option if you must, but I want to see the Fierro come back. Small, incredibly agile, maybe with a targa or convertible option.
For the re-badge, I’d like to see the current Tahoe/Yukon but stanced down low and sitting on some wide low profile tires. I want to see what the Saab 97X was to the trailblazer on a Tahoe/Yukon platform wearing Pontiac badges. Maybe they only come in a turbo V8. Maybe you ditched the timing chain on those V-8’s in favor of timing gear gears and make them whiny as all hell with exceptionally loud exhaust.
Since nobody is making a large sedan anymore, I feel like the last car I wanna see come back would be the last Chevy Impala body. Turbo charged V6 or naturally aspirated V8 only, stanced down low. Incredibly powerful and incredibly quiet. They should look angular and aggressive, but be smooth as silk and incredibly powerful. It should favor ride slightly over handling.

And offer a two door on the Caprice rebadge
murpheeslw@reddit
I’m never buying a GM at this point. They need to go bankrupt and learn a lesson.
therin_88@reddit
Pontiac doesn't make an SUV, nor should it.
Grand Prix, GTO and Firebird.
Zerofawqs-given@reddit
G8 GXP for starters…..was just getting a following and BAM! It’s gone! My Ex specifically forbade me from shopping for a used one in 2012 when we were looking for a daily driver….Had to buy her an IS350 Lexus instead ….Oh and please don’t throw a lot of chrome crap on it like they did on the Chevy SS later…never liked the SS like I loved the G8 styling
owlwise13@reddit
The Grand Am with a manual transmission otption. Make the Grand Prix a high performance crossover SUV. A stripped down Firebird with a manual option.
gthomps83@reddit
The SUV/CUV has gotta be the Aztek.
Rebadge: the return of the Pontiac Chieftain (a rebadged Blazer EV).
Car is the hardest for me. I know a Firebird won’t sell enough. Neither would a Fiero. So I’m going to say: Grand Am — a nice midsize sedan with solid performance/handling.
_Thorshammer_@reddit
Midsize sedan on a reworked Alpha 2 platform, Catalina.
Firebird / Trans Am.
Entry lux SUV on the Traverse platform, call it the Bonneville or Safari.
xpert_98@reddit
Solstice (there aren’t many options in that segment), Montana (one American minivan is from Stellantis and it has horrible quality), and rebadge a Blazer (throwback to Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada)
Itchy-Lingonberry-90@reddit
Acadian, Sunbird and Firefly. GM is lacking in crappy econoboxes. They have plenty of expensive crap though.
gravelpi@reddit
Aztec, Grand Am, and rebadge a Silverado 2WD as an El Catalina.
rickybobbyscrewchief@reddit

Pontiac will not make crossovers or SUVs under my watch.

GTO built on the Cadillac CTS Chassis, Lemans built on updated Impala chassis, and a rebadged Silverado pickup, both gas and diesel models. Maybe down the road a model to compete with the Mazda Miata.

American Pontiac or Joint-Venture Pontiac? Unpopular opinions to follow but this is just me.
Fiero... something to make it different than the mainstream Miata and Toyobaru 2-seater sports car genre...but if not then fine just do the Solstice. Doesn't have to be convertible or retractable hardtop either...just go hardtop and be done with it. NA-manual or SC/TC-manual...unless the manual can't handle the torque then fine...DCT...no slush box. If they're being cheap and instead want to rebadge a Camaro so we get a TransAm again then that'll be fine too.
Rebadged Cadillac V-series sedan... something 4-door performance-oriented.
Rebadged Holden UTE. Fullsize sedan-like pickup body. We don't need any more super sized pickup trucks...some people that are settling for Ridgelines and Mavericks (could be just me) wouldn't mind something even more carlike in ride height.
All 3 should likely stick to the same or limited engine/transmission choices...no need for 3-8 different engines and transmission combinations with arbitrary power numbers or shift logic across them either. Just 1 engine and transmission...or 2 at most...and definitely offer a Manual since everyone else is just doing CVT stuff. But just stay inline with being performance oriented..and that's it...no SUV/CUV, no big trucks, no econocars, no EVs...just something nobody else is currently doing (preferably). I saw so many times people end a sentence with "...but [arbitrary feature/option] was better (or only available) in the Chevy/Buick/Whatever version of it so I just got that instead".
That is why I pick those 3. If Pontiac were to come back is should be somewhat unique and not just aka some-other-GM-too lineup. It's not logical, but that's my take on it.
SnooDonuts4503@reddit
Grand Am, Bonneville, Trans Am
ThirdSunRising@reddit
The SUV is obviously the Aztek. So hilariously tone deaf when it came out, but give one to a legendary TV villain and now it’s one hot machine. Restyle it to make it even uglier of course.
Car? GTO. They’ll have to get Holden back together to design it. So we also get a new Commodore and Ute and El Camino in the deal. Pure win.
Rebadged car? C’mon. Firebird. Rebadged Camaro. As always. Though there’s some temptation to change the sheet metal and re-release the Burt Reynolds edition Trans Am with the T tops and the screaming chicken and the whole deal.
Specialist_Heron_986@reddit
I'd bring back modern versions of the G6/Grand Am(mid-sized sedan that can also be sold as a wagon or lifted wagon ala Subaru Outback), Montana (A minivan in a stable and profitable niche), and a rebadged Buick Envision ( a slightly upmarket crossover with no other GM badge variants).
Driftwood71@reddit
For a car, I'd do a reimagined/restomod version of the 1947 Pontiac Torpedo in fastback and convertible.
I realize it's completely unrealistic, but fun to think about.

SUV/Crossover- Bonneville as a mid size SUV, with a sportier/performance focus
Car: GTO- Full size performance coupe, 6.2L standard. Bonus points for a 4-door version as the LeMans

1992-1997 Grand Am with a CVT or optional 7 speed straight cut geared sequential transmission and 10 inch carbon ceramic brakes
Any gen Pontiac Sunfire - exact same drivetrain options as above. Regular brakes.
Pontiac Aztec track edition - mid engine front wheel drive ecotec 400hp. CVT option only, fully gutted, caged, air jacks. Uses the sunfire brakes.
Many-Pomegranate-33@reddit
Grand Prix based off Cadillacs car platform. (There has been talks about future bigger camaro off this platform. GP is less of a big swing)
Suv off of the Blazer platform.
Theyd probably do a 3rd off of the traverse/acadia platform.
SUVs is what sells and what automakers push. Not much demand for cars anymore.
Working_Farmer9723@reddit
An aluminum bodied 2026 Fiero GT with a 2.0l exotec making near 300hp. They’d cost a little less than an entry level vette. They’d sell like 300 and I would absolutely buy one.
Vibe. This car would have no upgrades and be exactly as it was. It would sell for $9,999. They would sell hundreds of thousands before being sued by the EPA for emissions violations and DOT for safety violations.
Aztec. Make it a hybrid full time AWD or EV just a little nicer than the “mustang” EV. This one would actually sell at a profit.
Burner5647382910@reddit
G8 GXP with a stroked and canned na LT4. That’s all I’d need.

Aztec as a 4Runner/XTerra/Bronco competitor. GTO. Firebird as a rebadged version of whatever the possibly new Camaro thing that’s been in the news lately will be.
LV_Devotee@reddit
Aztec as the suv/ crossover, GTO (2 door) and G8 (4 door) based on the CT4-V, and a Solstice. Every one would have a gas model Aztec Turbo V6, GTO/G8 same as the CT4-V, and a turbo 4cyl on the solstice. But all would have a battery electric option without changing the styling at all. Fiero there are not enough mid engine American cars.
For obvious reasons GTO or Firebird Transam. Give it the old Dogde doing lines of coke off strippers treatment. You know big enginge, big HP, only thing that matters is performance and literally nothing else.
No-Exchange8035@reddit
"Fiero" has to be on the list.
"Aztec" that is more honda element outdoor type based.
Maybe a small truck, like "G4"
All rwd based. Suv and the truck have 4 wheel options.
All use the same 4cyl hybrid 250-300hp motor to save costs all on the same platform.
Focus on affordable fun vehicles in that 30-40k range.
Then you can add your 4 door car and cuv with the same setup.

While GM has renewed Pontiac trademarks, this is likely to protect intellectual property rather than signal a brand revival. ..."

Reskinned Camaro as a Firebird (funky retro inspired digital interior and everything).
An AUD UTE RHD converted (should be the same dash as the Firebird but can be regular ol’ gauge cluster).
Take an Alpha 2 sedan, do a Pontiac G8 revival, stuff the smallest NA V8 you can into it, give it basic level everything, profit?
It should not get an SUV.
Maybe a next generation EV but make it cool.
Sell through the Chevrolet network as the “cool” brand like Scion:Toyota did.

Grand Prix and Firebird/Trans Am based off a stretched Alpha platform. SUV is a modern ElCamino called the Formula and it has a removable back end cap/back seat option like the Slate. Jacked flared 4WD variant has an overtop cap with a pop-top like a Chevy Chalet.
