Hey y’all, i just got scheduled for a 3 day UPRT (Upset Prevention and Recovery Training) and im super nervous. I don’t get motion sickness but i hate the stomach drop feeling, brings me extreme discomfort. I hate rollercoasters or any sudden drop feeling that are not Power On and Off stalls. I was wondering if there were any of y’all that are like me aswell or if you guys had any tips. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks yall !

Do it, it used to be a requirement for PPL in a lot of countries and still is in a few. Do you want the first time you're facing upset recovery to be planned and controlled or unexpected?
Bananas are good, easy to throw up but you won't have to worry about it. Just lock in and learn, it's very rewarding. Can't compare it to roller coastors (which I HATE) because you're in control. Enjoy it!

What’s that about bananas?

Supposedly they taste the same coming back up as they did going down in the first place. I can't speak from experience though.

Also make sure to be hydrated and get some sleep. I find UPRT is much tougher when your body isn't ready for it.

Im the same as you. I dont even like turbulence. I was so nervous I almost made myself sick. It really was not bad. I wouldn't call it fun but it was not that bad.

I'm literally at the same phase for my CPL too. Spins seemed more intimidating than upsets and maximum rate turns. But there's no g in the spin entry and recovery in a 152 is very tame. Max rates in the 172 are far more gross but even those once you're up there practicing them over and over solo are fine. You're in control and the only time it really sucks is if you cook the maneuver out of spec. Study and enjoy it, the situation is much less intimidating once you know what to expect and look for.

I hate roller coasters. But really enjoy basic aerobatics.

I’m the same. The first two were a little spooky, but after that it was a lot of fun.

It will happen too fast for you to be uneasy about it.

While I hate rollercoasters and heights, I don't have an issue flying or doing aerobatic discovery flights. For me, having some control of the physics in the situation matters. Good luck and enjoy!

It's fun, enjoy it! Just remember PARE and you'll be fine. "Dive" into the books on spin development and stages. I'm a firm believer that learning more about something can lessen your fear of it. You'll learn a lot from this training.

In my experience both in roller coasters and planes: anticipation is the majority of the discomfort. Once you are in the situation, there is no time to wonder how uncomfortable you are and it is kind of fun. Not much of advice, bit I guess but something to keep in mind.
