Is Shell app scam?

I went into a shell garage just now and the cashier kept telling me I need to download the shell app. After her going on about it, I eventually done it, she then said I must use my password for my email address, I told her I don’t know if she kept telling me to try to remember. Kept telling her I didn’t know and I just put a random password in, she then said she needed to take a photo of my shell card which I let her do. I’m thinking this is a scam so when I got home I turned 2 factor authentication on however, I’m now thinking of deleting the app. What scam is this and is this even a scam or am I being paranoid. The insistence felt off.

Devils advocate here. She might have been asking you to use the same password as your email as it might be one familiar to you.
She's probably sick of helping people that can't remember their password.
That aside, her insistence on you using the app and the same password is inappropriate and it should be your choice what you choose to do.

Thanks I hope it was just that, felt so off though.

How good was her English?

Its far more likely she just wanted to make a commission off your signup, or meet a KPI target of getting someone signed up to the app, its the exact sort of thing insufferable businesses make their retail workers do.
Unlikely she wants to defraud you out of money considering you know her in person and know her workplace and she is documented as having worked there.

It seems she was trying to get some way of being able to use your account on the Shell App, I have no idea why that might be as I don't have a Shell App so don't know what perks having it provide

Yes this was my first thought all very strange

Don't delete the app before changing the password again (and preferably also the associated email account)
seven-cents@reddit
She might be under pressure from her manager to push people to sign up, but you were under no obligation to do so and could've just refused.
She could also be dodgy, and was putting you under pressure to sign up to gain access to your account.
Taking a photo of the card is a huge red flag. I think I would delete the app account and report her to Shell, or insist on getting a new card with a different number.

She meant the password to your Shell App account - which it sounds like you made in store if you didnt have one already. Yeah, don't use your email password as the other commenter said - you use that to sign in to your email, you use the shell password to sign in to Shell app.
No scam, .. it's Shell. They give discounts on fuel and idk free coffees after buying 6 etc but hey, they're always like 20p a litre more than most other garages even without buying fancy V-Power.

It was strange I put in a random password but she kept insisting I remembered my email password she knew I was a new user as she told me to verify via email link whilst she was there.
Lassitude1001@reddit
More likely the cashier's ignorance and inability to explain how to set it up properly, not a scam.
Flimsy-Sheepherder98@reddit
The app itself isn’t a scam. I use it all the time. Her insistence about the password is off though. I’d report that.
Iain_M@reddit
Certainly not normal to take a photo of the card and you shouldn’t use the same passwords for anything else.
CurleyCee13@reddit
The shell app is good. I got 3p off per litre the other day. Plus you get exclusive discounts on things they sell. You also get points you can exchange for vouchers and I traded some of mine for £10 fuel the other day. It's not life-changing but it's not a scam.
dennis3282@reddit
You never need to use the same password as your email.
Professional_Rip2781@reddit (OP)
Yes that’s I went ahead and made one up despite her keep pushing me to try to remember, the whole situation felt off.
dennis3282@reddit
Yeah it does sound dodgy
