What are the best mens denim jeans?
Posted by -pixie-ninja-@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 58 comments
Hello trying to order some men's jeans. we've tried ordering a few pairs but they are stretchy and don't feel like proper denim. Anyone got any recommendations for proper traditional, thick denim jeans?

Levi’s. The original and best
fawncashew@reddit
I bought 2 pairs of Levis 18 months ago, both pairs have worn through where the corner of m,y phone sits in the pockets. The 10 year old Next jeans they were supposed to replace have had to come out of hybernation. Might be that some Levis are made different to others, but saying Levi's as a whole are the best (or even good) in this context without specifying is wrong

I had the same issue. I was pretty annoyed after paying for them to be tailored. Grabbed a couple of pairs from M&S and haven’t looked back. What’s also handy is that they do a shorter leg, which is perfect for my height. Short ass.
fawncashew@reddit
Think M&S might be my next stop. I'm getting dangerously close to them being the main brand in my wardrobe though, and I'm not sure I'm ready to accept that I'm at that stage of life yet...
liam_08@reddit
I’ve accepted it. You should too 😂

I once read that jeans (not sure if this applies specifically to Levis) aren’t the quality they once were because the material now has some kind of stretchy latex-style part to it. From what I read, that does 3 things:
1) Allows them to stretch to be more comfortable. 2) Means that after you wash them they go back to their normal fit. 3) Makes them less durable and wear more quickly in certain places (for me that’s always the pocket, like you, or the crotch).

Yeah it's the stretchy-ness (if that's a word) is what he doesn't like. They just all seem a bit rubbish, after proper 'old school' denim ones.
d_dawg_23@reddit
How sharp is your phone?!
fawncashew@reddit
Its an S24 Ultra, so has pointy corners. Its more from it making a single point of wear thats 'rubbed through' over 18 months. Not had it happen to any other trousers though, and I do wear chinos with a similar fit on a week-daily basis that show no sign of the same issue despite getting more weartime

Not all Levis are equal, 501s in particular.
pintperson@reddit
501’s - been around for 150 years and they’ve never gone out of fashion.
maceion@reddit
Try M & S
Murky_Repair8070@reddit
LOL no.
Longjumping-Toe-8643@reddit
Good fit and the material is nice too.

Nudie Jeans

Blackhorse Lane Ateliers where I purchase all my denim and if they don’t sell it they can make it for you.
False_Mulberry8601@reddit
Studio d’Artisan, Momotaro, ONI, Sugar Cane, Edwin.
Milvusmilvus@reddit
I like my Levi's selvedge and my Unbranded (it's a brand called Unbranded) 21oz could basically stand up by themselves but are too warm for summer.
Spid1@reddit
Another one for Nudie here.
Pretty sure they have a good repair policy too, which is useful if you're living in London
Opening-Fortune4@reddit
Hiut. Made in wales from denim from the best mills around the world. Free repairs. Very solid denim.

Pike Brothers

Any of these do a 28 waist?

Didn’t expect to see my go to’s for the past 16ish years at the top. My uncle worked in brand management an introduced me to Japanese selvedge.

Not many Uniqlo bots in this thread. Strange.

As an older gentleman, I’ve always found Levi’s and Diesel to be excellent. They’re not too tight and really comfortable.
However… I found 4 pairs of Camel Active jeans on the clearance rail at tk maxx. They’ve been my favourite jeans for a long time. Comfortable, durable and a nice fit. I’m not sure I could find them again though.

If you are willing to spend a few quid, you might take a look at hebteoco. They make thick, traditional style, hand riveted selvedge jeans. One pair will last a lifetime, I got some a while ago and they are very good quality.
gxb20@reddit
Carthartt workwear. Ive got a small waist but big long legs and they are the best fit for me. Nudie is close second
OmegaSMP300M@reddit
Sugarcane (Their historical lines 1947, 1955z, 1966) are superb. The 1966s in particular I find really comfortable.
Fullcount, Freewheelers, Stevenson Overall Co, UES are all really good denim brands.
gerrineer@reddit
I am not paying £500 + for a pair of jeans!
gerrineer@reddit
The website for sugarcane that I looked at for a pair are 300to 500 how much did you pay?
OmegaSMP300M@reddit
Fair enough. Neither would I!

I've always been a fan of Unbranded. No fuss Japanese denim at an unmatched price point.
Historical_Project86@reddit
Nudie jeans are great but pricey. Community Clothing have selvedge jeans made in the UK for a little over £100, they're worth checking out I think.
just-browsing-reddit@reddit
Nudie
mattt5555@reddit
Edwin, Nudie, uniqlo are my current favourites. The slimmer fits often have a 1 or 2% elastane addition i prefer that but it does change the feel a lot. I bought a pair of replay jeans off vinted that had 4% and felt like weird leggings, did not like those!
Herne_KZN@reddit
Wrangler 13MWZ
_RustyBeard@reddit
Shhhhh! 🤫
qtpat00tie@reddit
Cheapest would be Uniqlo selvedge. If you want to spend a bit more look for Orslow, TCB, Studio D'artisan, oni, samurai, momotaro, warehouse & co, pure blue japan and iron heart. If you are a waist 32" or less you can buy Japanese denim for less than £70 on ebay/vinted.
Do not buy diesel or levi's they are disgustingly bad, people suggesting that dress at costco and think they know what quality is.
pelvviber@reddit
Spoke jeans. Very good.
wonderman48@reddit
I won't wear anything but lee cooper jeans because they last and are super comfy. I've heard from friends that wrangler are also really good aswell
TheCarrot007@reddit
As much as I hate supporting the US.
Go on amazon, find some nice jeans for around £40 that would sell here for £130.
I used to do Lee but they no longer seem to do my size so have gone for Tommy this time.
Jeans are rediculously prioced here. I use to do next but china quality meant I had a 36 that was smller than a 32. They no longer care.
Tinnitus-1975@reddit
From what I've seen on other social media platforms, wrangler 😋
Then-Young47@reddit
Levis Skateboarding are amazing
imtheorangeycenter@reddit
Did they remove the metal rivets? We wished they didn't exist back in, oh god, 88-93! For some reason they'd always chip a bit of hip bone off, or so it felt like.
imtheorangeycenter@reddit
Howies, Naked, and, oddly FatFace. Selvedge (sic) where possible. I like organic ones (first two) because they are supposed to wear longer and use waaaaaay less water.
ciakkuzi@reddit
Nudie
zephyrmox@reddit
What fit are you looking for
g_junkin4200@reddit
For the best cost/quality ratio Uniqlo's selvedge.
aggravatedyeti@reddit
Nudie and Community Clothing do pretty solid jeans at the mid level. If you’re willing to spend, then Hiut abd Blackhorse Lane Atelier are excellent quality made in UK brands, and you could also look at Japanese options like Oni, Momotaro, Samurai, Full Count etc
king_shid_of_fud@reddit
Uniqlo selvedge. Very reasonably priced
Cally83@reddit
Japanese denim is the best for quality.
Levi’s are excellent and come in many fits.
Hugo Boss make good jeans which are soft, but find they blow out on the waist too much.
Diesel have always been good.
Edwin & Nudie were my stalwarts back in the day.
Darwen85@reddit
Levis, I like 512s, as a shorter gentleman they fit perfectly and dont drag on the floor.
Aintseenmeroit@reddit
Nudie.
JustAnother_Brit@reddit
Diesel or Levi
