Overlanding packing app

So the wife has been asking for a packing list for our overland/road trips. While I was just going to build something in notion I went a step further.
I'm not trying to sell anything. I am looking for about 20 people to test it out and provide some feedback, and to help make something useful.
How it works at the moment:
Pick your vehicle type.
Draw your storage zones right on top of the layout.
Add items to each storage unit. I'm experimenting with a grid system inspired by video game inventory systems to help estimate storage space (still requires eyeball calibration)
You can save different load outs for different trips, and you can share the load out and live edit with another person or group.
If you are interested in trying it out DM me. I would be happy to discuss in the comments more about it if you are interested.

I swear no one is better at making problems than “overlanders”

Can't have solutions if you don't make a problem first

lol to be honest my first thought about your idea was something closer to the commenter that you are responding to here, but them i recalled my sister's vacation binders, and I realized this might be useful to those among us that dont just pile everything in the driveway and shove it all in and drive until the road ends. Is there a 3d grid? Our 1 and 5 gallon water jugs are stackable, some people might find that option useful. Is the grid half able (lots of things are 18 inches. long, a lot of truck bed covers are not quite 2 foot tall) Have you considered reminders to aquire consumable items (ie, refill water/ice/firewood? ) Goodluck on your endeavor!

The grid system is very primitive at the moment and it really relies on the user to decide how many grids each area is and not based on actual dimensions, and it is also trying to replicate a 3D space in a 2D environment, so there are limitations as far as that goes. Depending on feedback I could see how to improve it but it's more of an estimation tool and not precise.
As far as the reminder for consumables that's a great idea. I do have a departure checklist in there but I like the idea for consumables.

You might get useful input from the vanlifer/car camping crew or even just generalbase campers, I'm sure there are plenty of subs, just an idea for you to get more feedback.

Thanks I will probably do that

Hit me up! 91 Troopy fully built out including alucab Hercules. Also have a 98 defender 90 completely empty rear boot. Would love to try it out

See this is the shit I need for fishing to build out tackle boxes so I know what I can fit
chanciehome@reddit
This made me laugh! You mean kitting out the tackle box doesn't mean grabbing the nearest box to the garge door and leaving with just barbless trout hooks, a spool of salmon line, 3 bobbers, one lead and a bass lure you found 20 years ago!? 46 years and here i was thinking going fishing is just an excuse to stop by the bait shop for supplies (that are identical to everything else in the other tackleboxes in the garage.)
(why yes, my husband does own at least 15 sets of sockets that he bought for a missing 10mm every 18 month or so....)
AnOkDaddy@reddit
lol I have so much tackle and I like to build out for various options. I have a pack that holds more for new places (since I don’t know what to expect), a travel pack for places I know but I’m gonna explore the area, and a smaller car pack for random stops.
Astrohumper@reddit
You and Claude can probably do that in under an hour.
Ok_Shopping6727@reddit (OP)
You are probably right
Astrohumper@reddit
It’s amazing the things you can do with that now.
Ok_Shopping6727@reddit (OP)
It could totally be used for that, although not what I designed it for

And here I thought my notes app or simple paper and pen were keeping me from forgetting things on camping trips.

I'm terrible with list, perhaps it's ADHD. I think that's why the visual nature of this appeals to me, even though it's really just a list with extra steps.

Fun for theory crafting but no plan survives contact with the enemy.
Packing things like a tight puzzle that has no wasted space is a nightmare to manage when your actually out camping and overlanding. When you get done digging yourself out of a mud hole in the rain, you don't want to spend the next 45mins carefully packing all that dirty gear back into it's tight little cubby-holes.
Always pack for about 20-30% expansion in mind. Not only is it easier to deal with things getting used and tossed back into place, but it makes things so much easier to find and access when you don't have to move 3 things around like a puzzle to get the item you need hiding at the bottom.
Ok_Shopping6727@reddit (OP)
That's very true and by no means is it meant to pack like a Tetris game. It was initially just a list for each area which is still used. I added the grid system just because I thought a video game like interface was fun. That's what the testing is for to figure out what works and what doesn't.
