As someone in the beef/meat hospitality industry this is extremely concerning. This would be devastating if it crossed the border. Expect price hikes of 50-80% on all beef (maybe lower on other meats). Even if there is very little herd loss there will be new safety protocols at processing plants which will significantly delay shipments, cause more employee hours clocked, and raise prices.

I work in a pawn shop and one of my regulars (not an addict, was definitely not lying, let’s call him Frank) was telling me his friend (who I don’t know and cannot vouch for, let’s call him Greg) felt a pain in his leg, sat down in the bathroom to check it out- and a worm tore through his skin. Greg put the worm in a bag and took it to the hospital where the doctors insisted there was no worm. He ended up in a psychiatric hold over the whole ordeal.

I dismissed it as “that guy was crazy or on drugs there’s no way” because I have a deep parasite phobia and that’s what I want to believe- but Frank kept saying “I dunno man, look up screw worms, Greg just got back from Miami!”

I did not look up screw worms. I can’t even bring myself to read the article above. But the way you’re describing them reminded me of that conversation.
