obody talks about this but you don't have to pay $39.99 for a Carfax report — there's a $4.99 way to get the exact same thing

I feel like nobody really talks about this when it comes to buying a used car.

Every time someone asks for advice, the top comment is always “get a Carfax.” Which is fair — you absolutely should check the history. But what people don’t mention is that you don’t necessarily have to pay $40 for it.

I found this out when I was buying my second car.

Dealers don’t actually pay $39.99 per report. They buy them in bulk and get them for way cheaper. Same exact report — accident history, title info, mileage, everything — just a completely different price depending on who’s buying.

Obviously that’s not something they advertise.

While I was shopping around, I checked multiple VINs and realized paying full price every time would’ve added up fast. I ended up using a cheaper service and got the same report for a few bucks instead.

For me, it made a big difference since I was comparing a few cars. Would’ve spent over $100 otherwise.

Not saying don’t check the history — you definitely should. Just saying it’s worth knowing you’ve got options and don’t have to overpay every time.
