Netanyahu holds ‘warm’ conversation with Hungary’s newly elected Magyar, who invites him to visit

Is that even possible? There's a warrent for Netanyahu's arrest, is there a plausible flightpath to Hungary that doesn't bring him into the airspace of a country that wants to arrest him?
SaneForCocoaPuffs@reddit
It’s funny because Victor Orban was also an ally of Israel, and even though the opposite party won Hungary they are still allies of Israel
Perhaps less in Hungary has changed than people think. Time will tell if it’s hype or not
StarWarsMonopoly@reddit
I know that Hungarian politics (like most Eastern European politics) is fairly complicated, but didn't this guy start as an ally of Orban?
Also, it's so odd that such a small and fairly irrelevant country like Hungary would need to have a relationship with Israel at all apart from basic EU diplomacy
pimmen89@reddit
They need to keep Europe disunited and dysfunctional, and because of current consensus rules, it takes just one country for that. Otherwise there will likely be a Europe independent of the US that can sanction Israel and enforce the ICC arrest warrants on their leaders.
StarWarsMonopoly@reddit
Wouldn't that just be Germany?
Unless there is a movement to remove current German leaders in favor of ones who are actually objective about Israel that I'm unaware of?
kapsama@reddit
I don't but that Germany would still be subservient to Israel if the US wasn't so compromised.
mschuster91@reddit
Screw Netanyahu and his fascist ministers. Even in Germany, no one likes them.
But there is no way that Germany will be on the side of those willing to wipe Israel off of the map. Our ancestors tried that and we learned our lesson.
kapsama@reddit
Yeah those dastardly women and children of Gaza who were massacred for trying to wipe Israel of the map.
TheJewPear@reddit
Yeah I’m sure zero Hamas and PIJ combatants were killed.
kapsama@reddit
Even the vile IDF has admitted that 80% of the casualties are civilians. And anyone eho defends that slaughter is a monster.
TheJewPear@reddit
So what? A government committing crimes, if proven, should be arrested and imprisoned. Doesn’t mean that anyone should be up for the destruction of the whole country.
BroMan001@reddit
Your ancestors tried murdering people for their ethnicity, not abolishing a genocidal occupation project. Zionism is not Judaism, get it through your skull
helikophis@reddit
Further proof that the correct system for groups with member counts on this scale is “consensus minus one”.
pimmen89@reddit
Yeah, or that two thirds majority of member states is enough to pass whatever instead of consensus, like in the US senate.
helikophis@reddit
I'd say it's effectively it's no longer a consensus decision making system in that case - it's modified majority rule. That's a fine approach to take, but it shares drawbacks of both consensus and majority rule systems (disenfranchises minority coalitions in the same way as simple majority, but without the significant efficiency improvements over consensus that simple majority has).
BroMan001@reddit
Well yeah they said “instead of consensus”
pimmen89@reddit
True, but we have a constitution to protect the basic rights of minorities.
Advanced-Net-8119@reddit
that would be annoying
Forged-Signatures@reddit
From what others have said, former ally who allegedly split and become critical of Orban after accusations of corruption were levied in the direction of the government.
fartingbeagle@reddit
Hello the new boss!
Same as the old boss!
TheJewPear@reddit
Since when does an opposition candidate have to reverse all policies?
BendicantMias@reddit
Conservative Christians love Israel, and Hungary is all conservative Christian. Israel is especially popular with Christians obssessed with Judgment Day..
BroMan001@reddit
42% of Hungary identifies as Christian of any kind.
TheJewPear@reddit
Why would there be? No European country wants an Islamist dictatorship on the Mediterranean.
disasteress@reddit
What the hell are you talking about? Because as a Hungarian I have no idea. I don't know a single conservative Christian in Hungary.
lavastorm@reddit
i dont know... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2jcaju_5Yds
Mobile_Ask2480@reddit
Well they voted for the 99% Hitler instead of the 100% Hitler
TheJewPear@reddit
Didn’t take long for a moronic Reddit commenter to start comparing Magyar to Hitler…
TheJewPear@reddit
It’s obvious to most countries and governments that Israel is a valuable ally to have. What’s the alternative, Iran? Who the hell would want that?
r0w33@reddit
Or perhaps fewer people in Hungary care about Israel or Palestine than people on Reddit would like to believe?
TheLastSamurai101@reddit
Are they the opposite party? Magyar was a part of Orbán's party for ages. He left and started a new right-wing party that just happened to be opposed to Orbán's authoritarianism. That doesn't make him a leftist.
VladimiroPudding@reddit
I guess a bunch of people are holding warm talks with Magyar now. It is just Bibi doing so is worth a headline.
BroMan001@reddit
This reminds of a certain united country
Advanced-Net-8119@reddit
Honestly i dont care about Hungarys relation with Israel, as long as he is more anti russian than orban was. Magyar could be Netanyahus best freind for all i care as long as Hungary stops blocking ukriane aid in the EU
TheRicFlairDrip@reddit
Why do you care about Ukraine being from the US… lol
Advanced-Net-8119@reddit
because i am against russian influence in the EU region, since we have ALOT of vested interests in the region. The whole "oh its on the other side of the world so why do you care" argument is so stupid, its not 1776 anymore.
PhraatesIV@reddit
Honestly I don't care about Hungary's relation with Russia, as long as he is more anti israeli than Orban was. Magyar could be Putin's best friend for all I care, as long as Hungary stops helping israel.
Advanced-Net-8119@reddit
Thats fair, since you probably operate on a more fuck Israel mentality. Im operating on more of a US centric view.
imunfair@reddit
ftfy
Still_There3603@reddit
Magyar is not too different from Orban both toward Israel & Ukraine.
I think he will ultimately settle on a pro-Israel & Ukraine-skeptic position (though less on both compared to Orban) since Ukraine-Hungary tensions are also over energy security & ethnic feuds.
They're not just about Orban & Zelensky or Russia. So while Magyar does not like Russia, he does not love Ukraine either.
TheRicFlairDrip@reddit
Hungary has the biggest synagogue in Europe and also has a large Jewish community.
Quirky-Cat2860@reddit
Hungary is the European equivalent of the US political landscape. The Democrats are still a right wing party by many metrics, just like Tisza.
Treesaregreen2@reddit
Yeah, I was reading that apparently this new guy is more xenophobic that Orban.
boringhistoryfan@reddit
TBF I doubt relationships with Israel are necessarily a major priority for Hungarian voters. And an opposition candidate winning doesn't typically mean a reversal on every aspect of policy.
Has Magyar ever indicated he'd take issue with Israel?
saracenraider@reddit
>Perhaps less in Hungary has changed than people think. Time will tell if it’s hype or not
There are thousands of different issues/policies in politics. Every politician on the planet of every shape and size will agree with every other politician on at least one issue
Worldly_Anybody_9219@reddit
This is highly unfortunate. Netanyahu should be a complete pariah on the world stage for all the children in Gaza who have been massacred. I will never forget accidentally seeing a video shared on social media of a kid in a hospital tent who was burned alive from a bombing while he was connected to an IV drip (he was at the hospital because he already survived an earlier attack). It was horrific. Shaban al-Dalou was his name. It is burned into my memory for life.
Dripdry42@reddit
Well, I posted on here a few times and got downvoted, but… New boss, the same as the old boss? I welcome change, but this isn’t shaping up very well.
Eexoduis@reddit
Well. That is unfortunate. We can be happy that Ukraine has gained another ally but it is disappointing that Netanyahu hasn’t lost one. I think the net outcome of Magyar will be good overall in terms of lived saved and imperialist invaders destroyed.
blobofhope@reddit
Ukraine gained an other ally? What do you mean?
elihu@reddit
Orban was very pro-Russia and did basically everything in his power to obstruct military aid to Ukraine. I don't know what Magyar's views are, but I think it's widely assumed that he'll be more supportive of Ukraine.
blobofhope@reddit
I just wouldn’t jump too far, he comes from Orban’s party, I would just advise caution.. don’t take me wrong he isn’t Orban, but I don’t know if he is already an ally at this stage.. to be continued I guess.
BigDicEnergy@reddit
lmao did people really think the darling du jour of the transatlantic liberal establishment was going to abandon Israel? EU leaders would rather the global financial system collapses than acknowledge Israel's true nature.
