Experience

Im 21 got about 1.5 years driving a concrete mixer with my Class A, but no tractor-trailer experience yet.
Trying to figure out my next move. I want to make more money and eventually go OTR or get into something better paying, but I don’t really want to take a big pay cut to get there.
For anyone who’s been in this spot:
What did you do next?
Did you go straight to OTR or find a local Class A job first?
Any companies I should stay away from so I don’t get stuck making crap money?
Appreciate any advice.

Common sense says you should be networking with other drivers within the world of construction. Pretty easy transition if you've been networking properly, and possibly a bump in pay. F otr, most of it doesn't pay enough, simple as that. If you like the go go type of atmosphere that is mixer work, then you'll HATE the hurry up and WAIT games played with a lot of the otr work out there. Work towards getting specialized be it oversize or even car hauling. I started with regional intermodal, then construction, then moved over to car hauling myself. All of it is go go type atmosphere, each with their unique challenges, and I love it.
I got to get a taste of what it's like running a reefer for a week, and sitting for HOURS on a dock sucks!
