Tapped a stop sign

My trainer sent me off route and I ended up missing the exit he was directing me to take, so he directed me to take the next exit even though the gps was telling me to take the exit 3 miles away which resulted in an exit with no on ramp. So now im being told to turn into a parking lot which led to me tapping a stop sign.
I know I am at fault in the eyes of the law and company policy because I was behind the wheel. My question is should I report this to the company? If so I will let my trainer know I am going to report it.
I’ve heard to tell the trainer that you are not comfortable doing certain commands and that was going through my head the entire time. I admit that it was ultimately my mistake but man, that’s so annoying to tell your trainee to take different routes other than what the gps is saying. It’s very overwhelming as an amateur driver.
P.S. the truck has samsara so I’m sure it alerted the company and sent the footage.

Report it. Samsara already flagged it so they know, trying to hide it makes it ten times worse than the tap itself.
Be honest about exactly what happened, trainer directed you off route, you followed instructions, ended up in a tight spot. That context matters even if you were behind the wheel.
A stop sign tap during training with a trainer giving bad directions is not a career ending incident. Lying about something Samsara already recorded is.
Talk to your trainer first like you said, let him know you're reporting it. If he pushes back on that, that tells you everything you need to know about him.

I told a couple of trainers no. Got some kick back but dealt with it. My record is my record not theirs.
