Lectric express step through good for my commute?

I’m looking at e bikes to ride to work. I’m in fairly hilly terrain. The total climb is about 200 ft elevation change. The commute round trip is about 9 miles.
The route is mainly along the county road where the speed limit is 50 and people go 55-60. I’m comfortable riding this road because cyclists are common along it.
I’d like an e-bike that can get me the 4.5 miles to work in the morning in about 15 minutes without straining so much as to be sweaty at my office job. In the afternoons I could obviously pus myself harder.
Finally, this needs to make financial sense. I spend about $40 in gas a month. From my estimates I’d spend about $2 in electric a month for $38/ month savings. Assuming can ride the bike for 4 months in my climate, it’d take almost 7 years for the bike to pay for itself vs just using my car. Do these things even last that long?

It doesn't make sense to risk your life for 7 years to break even on this. Country road presumably means little to no shoulder. Collisions over 50mph are almost always fatal (in the neighborhood of 80-90%).

Hmm good point

I would not recommend a Lectric for reliable daily transportation to work.
If you already own a car, the 38 Dollars a month gas savings is not worth it (assuming you have a car payment and insurance).

Thank you for the advice. Is there a specific bike that you would recommend for daily transportation?

Something better. Maybe an Aventon. Definitely not a fat bike.
Fun_Journalist4199@reddit (OP)
What do you mean by fat bike?
chrispark70@reddit
A fat tire bike. That is, a bike with 3, 4 or even 5" wide tires. For many years they were known as fat bikes and they were highly specialized. Good for some things, but sub optimal for most things. Fat tire e-bikes tend to be the cheapest and worst e-bikes.

Spending $1300 to save $38/month is not wise.
Cancel a subscription or 2 would be more beneficial if your goal is saving money.

That is a main goal and an easy way to justify. I also think it would be fun

Ebikes are fun but traveling 15 mph with cars passing closely at 50 is not fun.

I would not get on a county road with cars going 50 at bike speeds. You may want to look into a light electric motorcycle or EUC or e dirt bike at that speed.

between all the weather specific clothing, lights, accessories, bags, tools you will be blowing through your "savings". Ride the bike cause you want to but don't make the mistake of all the extra costs when you maintain and use something regularly.

Don't just c/onsider fuel costs in your calculation. Cars need to be maintained. Last I looked, the US government allows 50c/mile for tax purposes.

This. There's oil changes, sometimes things break down, maybe it's your starter motor, maybe it's the muffler (very common in wintry areas that get a lot of snow and salt).

It's probably not worth it in your situation if all you care about is saving money. It won't likely last seven years without needing parts replaced.
