Some. I could care less. I tell people I’m in transportation logistics and I cringe when I have to tell them I’m a pilot.
dash_trash@reddit
By playing this game isn't it actually you who is assigning your job some extra significance, not the person asking? Like you just assume preemptively that everyone gives such a huge shit about you being a pilot?
I don't go out of my way to tell people, well, pretty much anything and that includes what I do for work. But if I'm asked I treat it like what it is - just a job, and to me that means giving a straightforward answer like anyone else with any other job would give.
Ted_Striker02@reddit
No. If I tell people im an accountant or car salesman they wouldn’t ask follow up questions. When I tell people I’m an airline pilot there’s always a series of follow up questions which I prefer not answering. And the questions are always the same.

Lmfao even cringier

A friend and I live near each other, near enough that we run into each other every few weeks. When we do, we always walk up to each other and say "Hey, I'm a pilot".
But the only person at my work that knows probably already forgot.
schenkzoola@reddit
Cool story! I just wanted to let you know that I’m a pilot.
JSTootell@reddit
Me too!
SoyMurcielago@reddit
Now i wanna see a variation of this where the other person goes me too, then you ask what they pilot and they show you their Honda pilot
JSTootell@reddit
If it had a manual transmission, I'd consider one 😂

Air Force pilot* yes, military boys can’t let it go.

I had an F-16 pilot in my jumpseat once, and it was really cool because he told us all about how he used to be and F-16 pilot, and boy did I learn so much about being an F-16 pilot from that F-16 pilot, I wouldn't have known he was an F-16 pilot if he didn't tell me he was an F-16 pilot, but boy oh boy am I sure glad he told me he was an F-16 pilot.
BTW - did I mention he was an F-16 pilot?
Ausgeflippt@reddit
From what I've heard, Viper pilots are just that way.
I went for a flight lesson at PIB once. There was a Tucano parked outside the FBO. I talked to a dude in a flight suit about it and he was a former A-10 pilot. Dude was super chill, telling me how they were flying the "baby Tucano" around Camp Shelby for some combined ops exercises. He even joked that I'd have more fun in the 172 I was flying that day than the Tucano.
Eventually, some other guy in a flight suit comes out of the bathroom and walked up to us. I asked him what he flew in the AF- "the Viper". Super smug, didn't answer any questions like the A-10 guy, 3/10 would not recommend.
legimpster@reddit
I once had a former AF pilot in my jump seat who flew the DragonLady. This was the only time where all I wanted to hear was stories from this guy. And of course he just sat there quietly. I even asked “you flew the dragonlady? How was that?” And he was just like “yeah it was cool.” And that’s it…probably sworn to secrecy or something like that
busting_bravo@reddit
That would be super cool to hear about. I'd probably ask him about what he says to flat earthers. And how it was landing it. And ... yeah, those are stories I'd want to hear too.

The cooler the job, the less you want to say.

Unlike the fellow whose Reddit account name has nothing to do with flying.

A username doesn’t define one’s personality so

Entire_Talk839@reddit
What is a license plate but a username for the car?
Thomas-Ligotti97@reddit
Huh? Well had the people who start a Reddit (or any social media account) are forced to pick a name and some people choose something random. I chose an author I like.
But for a license plate you actually have to submit it for review and go through the process of that (idk what the specific process is but I know you have to go out of your way to do it)
