If you're 46 this year, you're as old as Christopher Lloyd when Back To The Future filmed in 1985

Granted, 1985 was the "old" Doc Brown (65) and 1955 was the "young" Doc Brown (35). Lloyd was 46 when they started filming.
i_am_randy@reddit
Why would you target me so specifically with this post?!?!
jeffwhit@reddit
fuck you.
thetrickstergib@reddit
I do not. Repeat. I Do not look that old.
Powerful_Leg8519@reddit
No. You don’t. Because he’s in old age makeup in this pic. This is like the 10th time it’s been posted. This is what he looked like at 46.
Thenadamgoes@reddit
There’s even a scene in part two where he takes the old man make up off so he doesn’t have to wear it for the next two movies.
the_millenial_falcon@reddit
When I was kid I literally could not see a difference so I always thought the joke was that it didn't work.
0dayssince@reddit
No, you’re right. The joke was that it did nothing.
Scrotchety@reddit
Nahhh, it was a wink to the audience. Like the time 1990s Trek time traveled back to 1960s Trek and they were like "THOSE ARE KLINGONS??" and look to Worf and Worf is like "we don't talk about that."
Huli_Blue_Eyes@reddit
....wait. Christopher Lloyd was a Klingon!
Rob_LeMatic@reddit
EAGLE RIVER???

Hot Shots?
Unique-Accountant253@reddit
Even in that movie he had a time machine and a dog.

GIVE ME GENESIS!
Clear_Tangerine5110@reddit
Yeah. Marty's reaction "You look great, Doc" with that half smirk is him being like "Whatever you say, Doc."
rogueciridae@reddit
There's also the fact that he literally just spent a week with a version of the Doc who was 30 years younger, so it's not like he wouldn't recognize him anyway.
lavasca@reddit
Same!
OrionDC@reddit
... It's not..? Lol
Thenadamgoes@reddit
Haha I always thought that too. I wonder if it was because we watched it on VHS and couldn’t see the detail.
meltintothesea@reddit
The 4K discs are insane to watch now. Had to keep pausing it just to look at all the details I missed before.
the_millenial_falcon@reddit
Could be.
Piccoroz@reddit
And marty kinda makes the face "you look exactly the same".
matagin@reddit
That was pretty cool how they did that. Saying he got a face lift in the future.
ArcticCelt@reddit
When I was a kid, I barely could see the difference between young and old Doc, both looked like old Doc to me. Now that I am in their bracket, I can clearly see it.
JavaOrlando@reddit
If you're 30 you're the same age Thomas F. Wilson was while filming Back to the Future 2
.
shwgrt@reddit
I look this old. 😢
bleu_waffl3s@reddit
He still looks pretty old there too
Stevie-Rae-5@reddit
Huh. 1955 Doc is kind of hot.
That’s today’s unexpected revelation.
JoshSidekick@reddit
He looks younger there than he did in Taxi.
InternationalMap1744@reddit
Yeah - I just realized I may be attracted to Christopher Lloyd...
Kade7596@reddit
I don't look that old, either
heridfel37@reddit
Makeup can do wonders. The actor in Fiddler on the Roof was 36
Clear_Tangerine5110@reddit
Yeah but he was also born in 1935, so he was likely as full of lead as everyone else. Everyone looked so much older than they actually were back then.
shmelse@reddit
Yes, and we’re only full of delicious plastic so it’s fine, everything’s fiiiiiiiine

Lead, lead, lead. It's better than bad, it's good.
Aqueous_Ammonia_5815@reddit (OP)
My apologies if this has been posted before. Literally my first thought when i woke up was "how old was Doc Brown?!"
Powerful_Leg8519@reddit
lol no worries! It’s always posted here and thy always put the old doc brown pic up saying you look this old and as a former special effects makeup artist I can’t let it stand 😂
No_Foundation1136@reddit
As an expert can you tell me if they just covered his face in Elmer’s glue and let it dry because this looks exactly like my hand did when I did that as a kid before peeling the whole thing off
Powerful_Leg8519@reddit
You are not far off!!!! It’s called stretch and stipple and you use liquid latex instead of Elmer’s glue.
For a DIY Halloween set up Elmer’s could work but latex is cheap.
Fillmore80@reddit
Bro that's not much better.
Atworkwasalreadytake@reddit
I wonder if that's why they did that rejuvenation thing from 2015 in Back to the Future 2, so that they could use less makeup?
ThermionicMho@reddit
Great Scott!
ryguymcsly@reddit
Damn he looked pretty good for his age.
Funandgeeky@reddit

ribblesquat@reddit
Neither did he... he's wearing makeup to look like that. See "Clue" from the same time period to see how he actually looked.
three-sense@reddit
It’s almost as if actors don’t have to be the same age as the fictional characters they play.

There's that word again. 'Heavy.' Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?
Long-Strike9408@reddit
The slang term heavy used to describe something as serious , intense, profound etc. goes back to at least the 60s and 70s.
Spare-Good-5372@reddit
It's a line from the movie

Unfair pic in the post because in this scene Lloyd is wearing makeup to appear older. It isn’t till the 1955 where we see Lloyd’s true face where he looks distinctly younger despite still having white hair.

exu1981@reddit
And that's ok.
IYFS88@reddit
I recently watched and looked up his age, exactly 46 like I’d just turned! Tbf in the ‘present day’ scenes he did have some mild aging effects on his face (kinda looks like a layer of dried Elmer’s glue lol). But in the 50s scenes he looks about right for that age. If you look at his face not the white hair he doesn’t look old at all.
McCrazyJ@reddit
FUCK YOU. I AM 46 AND DON'T HAVE A GRAY HAIR ON MY HEAD.

Little_Plankton4001@reddit
Well, the picture abice is the 1985 version and he's wearing makeup that's supposed to make him look older. The 46-year-old Doc Brown is the one in 1955.
red286@reddit

Kraken_Main1@reddit
Why yes I am, back then he looked so ancient to me as a 6yr old!
LibertyCash@reddit
I refuse to feel bad about this bc his hair is what makes him look old, esp to a 5 year old. If he had normal hair, we wouldn’t be nearly as scandalized.
gyrlonfilm6@reddit
I turned 46 last week and get mistaken for being in early 30s.
goldendreamseeker@reddit

DadPool79@reddit
The sad part of it is, I neither look nor feel "old". Don't get me wrong, I have all the daily reminders that I am getting old lol, grey hair, bad back, ect., but it just doesn't feel that way.

Intersecting a silver lining here.. Doc Brown is still with us, and back to the future happened my entire lifetime ago (millennial, mid 80s)

DandyLionsInSiberia@reddit
The thing with Christopher Lloyd though..
He belonged to that peculiar strain of character actor who seemed to bypass youth altogether and settle somewhere in a more ambiguous, lived-in middle distance where age feels more like atmosphere than arithmetic.
Often playing offbeat and the slightly unravelled but lovable characters. there was something faintly weathered about him, as if he carried experiences his birth certificate couldn’t quite account for.
His turn in Taxi as Jim “Iggy” Ignatowski, that burnt-out yet oddly endearing ex-hippy, captured it perfectly.
Although Lloyd was in his 30s - The character seemed older not because of years but because of a sense of mileage he brought to the performance tbh..
Lloyd didn't so much play older as suggest a life more fully lived which.. implied older than his actual years in most cases.
FloridaGirlMary@reddit
