How can I find this Kings Cross pub?
Posted by moreidlethanwild@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 39 comments
Some years ago (like 8-10 years ago) I worked in London and would frequently meet a client in a pub a few minutes walk from Kings Cross. I cannot recall the name though.
The pub was on or near a corner, had two entrances (bar and lounge type) and the interior was old, wood, not modern. They had a nice real ale selection. It was a proper pub.
I’ve looked on google maps and cannot find it. Any suggestions?

Just another option - The Scottish Stores
TransportationFun219@reddit
I was thinking this one as well
FiveYardFaded@reddit
It’s probably the Scottish Stores
RIP The Flying Scotsman
HumbleAddition3215@reddit
Scottish Stores would be my guess too

King Charles I, old man’s pub
FiveYardFaded@reddit
Best pub in the area. But too small for OPs description.
johnsonmlw@reddit
Agreed. Wood panelling at King Charles I. 5 mins from station.

Sounds like it could be the Lucas arms, couple minutes from the station, on a street corner and as you walk in there is a large bar ? Normally quite a lot on tap !
BowiesFixedPupil@reddit
Try Millers.
Some of it sounds exactly spot on, other bits not so much but after time the memory mixes things up but it came to mind as soon as I started reading it.

Mabel's Tavern, maybe?

Just came here to say this

It wasnt the Swinging Dick was it? Fits your description and it's roughly 5 minutes walk from the station, have a look on Google.

Could it be Mabel’s Tavern? 2 entrances, on a corner. Shepherd Neame brewery pub. It’s got a newish interior but think it used to be 2 bars.

No one has mentioned the Euston Flyer yet, could it be this one? Not on a corner, but near one (where the O'Neil's pub is), interior has lots of wood panelling.

Flying Scotsman

Could be McGlynns that closed down in 2023.
Gold-Creme-9597@reddit
That was my guess. It’s going to reopen!

This sounds like The Queens Head to me, my favourite kings Cross pub.
Altruistic-Basil@reddit
Actually no it doesn't if it was separated into a bar and a lounge room. Not the Queens Head.
NessunoComeNoi@reddit
The Dolphin, maybe? They’ve changed the alleyway that led to it.
moreidlethanwild@reddit (OP)
Has it always been called the Dolphin or is that new?
NessunoComeNoi@reddit
As long as I can remember it’s been the Dolphin.

There's been a lot of regeneration around that area, it might not even be there any more.
You might do besst looking f you can go in person, you might find it easier to remeneber (roughly) where it was if you start from a familr point.

That’s what I feared. In there in July and will look for it but hoped I could find it in advance.
Fred_Derf_Jnr@reddit
Try walking the route on Google Earth, that might help.

great suggestion 👏🏻

It could be the Malt and Hops, just a little down the Caledonian Road from King's Cross. One of the first real ale pubs in the area now sadly long gone.
danielroseman@reddit
Could be The Fellow, which is on York Way? https://www.thefellow.co.uk/

O Neil's?

We know its the Flying Scotsman you are looking for, and we know its not for the real ale.
paulbrock2@reddit
stack of 50ps handy
Time-Mode-9@reddit
It was £1 last time I was there, and that was 8 years ago
New_Crow_8206@reddit
You could get away with 50p.if it wasn't the 'A' squad on.
Over-Language2599@reddit
I just realised you're not talking about what I think. It's a long time since that was 50p.
djfnejdijRandom@reddit
That’s too vague, there must be dozens of pubs that fit the description. Can you remember what kind of neighbourhood it was surrounded by, and at least which side of Euston Road it was on?
moreidlethanwild@reddit (OP)
I can’t I’m afraid. Appreciate it’s a long shot. I’ll be back there in the summer so had hoped to find it again.
Creative-Tea581@reddit
Sounds a lot like The Parcel Yard or maybe The Queen’s Head both have that old wood interior + real ale vibe and are right by corners. If it’s neither, do you remember anything like a beer garden or signage?
moreidlethanwild@reddit (OP)
I thought Parcel Yard sounded familiar but on google maps it’s at the station and the pub I’m thinking of was definitely a few minutes walk away.
The interior of the Queens head doesn’t look right but then they may have had a refurb. I don’t recall a beer garden, as you go in there were a lot of lower tables and stools and the bar right there, a long bar as you walk in, seating to the right. The client was a smoker and he’d go stand out the front and I could see him from our table.
Appreciate it’s a long shot. I’ll be back there in the summer so had hoped to find it again.
