Just finishing up TE week this week with the big orange. I just don’t think I’m up for this lifestyle. 3 weeks out, 3 days home is bonkers. On top of that, I’m teams I think I should hang up the keys.

No shame in having your doubts. Not sure if you're a new driver but I don't recommend teams to ANY beginner, especially if you're stuck with another beginner.

Just left big orange myself, I was on dedicated Daimler account “jet set” 3 weeks on, 1 week home… loved it, but….. really missed the everyday stuff, granddaughter softball games, weekend get togethers e.tc….. I gave it up to be home, now I’m a yard jockey, but I can certainly say “I’ve been there “ good luck in your future endeavors my friend

its not that hard first year tbh. suck it up. save money. and just keep looking for the local/regional job you want in the area you like.
SlavaSoul@reddit
If you can hold out for enough experience to get a day job hauling metal, gas, wood, water, anything with daily loads, you can be home every night and still make good money as a trucker.
OneMulatto@reddit
Yeah. Ohhh. Yeah. The home daily life of a trucker. Here's how it usually is unless you landed a very lucky driving job.
Insane hours. Early AM start times. 1-4am start times. Be hopeful it's a driving job that pays you overtime after 40 or even pays overtime at all.
These daily driving jobs, unless again you are a lucky few, don't treat you like a princess. It isn't a glorious life. A 9-5 (again unless you are very lucky). These aren't regular people hours. You still don't have much of a fucking life but YOU'RE HOME EVERY DAY.
I'm tired of everyone glorifying these home every day driving jobs like they don't try to squeeze 14 fucking hours out of you every single day.
Then sometimes these home every day driving jobs pay a lil less hourly than you'd like so your only recourse is to try to stretch that clock to 14 every day. Still killing ourselves for what? So I can go home for 4.7 hours and get up and do it again? Be hopeful it's a at home daily driving job that'll give you weekends off.
Now you're working so much yiy start saying FUCK I might as well go back to OTR or at least regional because by the time I get home I literally have to fall right asleep that moment to even try to get 6hrs of sleep.
Either way, unless you are realllly lucky or have enough nepotism going around to make the Bushes jealous; You're fucked either way. Enjoy WW3, with a country you can't find on a map, at home in your own bed with a daily at home driving job!

My home daily job ain’t nothing like that. I haul dedicated freight, unless something happens I never use my full clock, and I’m home every single night.
Currently, we are short drivers so I am covering the board, which i voluntarily did.
The farthest I go, is 250 miles, but I don’t do that run often.
I mainly drive 165 miles out and back. So 330 round trip. Takes me roughly 6.5 hours and pay 275.00 per trip. The freight is 90% drop and hook.
The only catch for me is I work every other Saturday.
I’m very happy with what I do. Can you make more OTR? Sure, but I get to take my kids to school every morning, and sleep next to my wife every night.
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
No lines for a shower. A honest chance to meal prep. Clothes go up and not in a bag. Sleep in your own bed. Day off just let (some) places know in advance. No pay to park. Minimal slip seating (TCMA) - yeah sure, these companies are taking what they can where they can, thats where you the driver and captian of the ship tell em pound sand and fly a kite.
Ive compared left and right, and you do have a point aboit running thst clock out when they can, but not having to take mountains in the winter, hot load after hot load, No, LA, CHI, NY, ATL.
Yeah trucking is hard and not everyone can do it - and thats okay. Do time, stack monies and GTFO to something with 9-5 that you like doing

I second this. You’re super lucky honestly to have a home daily job with good hours, let alone pay also. Most jobs that are like that have low turnover and rarely have job openings.
Mediocre_Entrance868@reddit
You’re making it seem like there’s no reason to look for or even find a home daily job, unless you really hate your home life or have no family I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to be home everyday.
I work at a home everyday job usually 5am to 3pm with overtime pay, make an average of 3700 biweekly, have my whole afternoon to myself, weekends off and honestly I love the job where I’m at. 34/hr and 51/hr overtime.
OneMulatto@reddit
I never said don't look for one or they are not better. I said the usual picture portrayed of them on here is that they are all great.
Most at home daily jobs I've had have been long days and still physical labor involved and driving shitty equipment. I've been paid well sometimes.
nanneryeeter@reddit
I work 9.5 hrs/day. Start at 6.
ChiTruckDGAF@reddit
Don't do teams with a stranger. . .I wouldn't recommend any account that has you out for longer than a week as a brand new driver. Where are you located?
flergityberg@reddit
I’d never do teams. I got into this to be left alone.
Once you get a year in, a lot more opportunities will open up. Do what I did: research employers in your area and find out their pay and what they need for experience.
I got into linehaul at exactly the company I wanted to work for after a year at a mega. I went from being gone for months at a time and making 53k to being home daily with weekends off and making 100k. Not married, no kids. If I didn’t have student loans to deal with, I wouldn’t know what to do with all this money.
thatsmymoney@reddit
You guys go home?
vfittipaldi@reddit
That is. Don't do that schedule, there are plenty jobs out there that have a better schedule.
Alubsey@reddit
Hang ‘em up. Turnover rate always been high.
crudeshag@reddit
If you can, get into another trade asap. Trucking is a shit career. I think you replied to my other comment, but once you get a couple years clean xp and your endorsements, thats it brother. No more going up, no more adding to a resume, youre just a steering wheel holder. And if you decide to take a few years off, guess what? Insurance doesnt care, you start from ground zero like a fresh driver, and gotta get a shit job to get recent experience. Been doing this 15 years bro, I cant really get out, but def wouldve chosen something else if I knew what I know now.
TheIzzyRock@reddit
I’m regional and get home for the weekend, by Friday I’m ready to go home. I don’t understand how some of y’all stay out for weeks at a time.
Leto_ll@reddit
So don't stay otr. Once you got your year of clean driving and your training contract cleared you move onto a better company. Not another mega, nobody with a recruiting department.. The good places have applications waiting for an opening. For instance my gig is weekly, 5 on 2 off with vacation weeks, 401k matching and all the benefits. That's on top of enough cash to let my wife loaf and still live good. Small fleets and private fleets. Places who don't churn 2 butts per seat a year like the megas. They wont come to you though.
Ok_Bug_6470@reddit
Get your experience then do whatever you want. Dont lose all the time you have already put in. We all start at megas and it sucks but they teach you the by the book way which you need to know.
AE_Racer@reddit
I did 11 days out 3 at home and it still sucked. Then I did 5 out 2 at home. And it still sucked. The money is nice though if you need it. Although not gonna get that at big orange
DaRealMexicanTrucker@reddit
I dont blame you. Ive been doing this 15years. I only strongly suggest it to people whonare single and want to save up money quickly to do something else. I might be leaving the game myself soon.
