The website can only determine if the image looks acceptable, it can't compare it to your face. Without knowing how much it changes the appearance of your face, we can't tell you whether or not it would be acceptable.
But just to be clear- you absolutely shouldn't be using a filter to do anything to your passport photo. It's not going to be a flattering photo, just deal with it.
cheandbis@reddit
Why would you use a filter on an official document? Why risk it?
Careless_Soup_109@reddit
Most of us like a good old fashioned unflattering pic to keep us humble
Mr_Bumcrest@reddit
Don't use filters in official photos. Seriously, no one cares what you look like
butterflyeffect16@reddit
Jesus Christ. Filtering passport photos. What is the world coming to?
WackyWhippet@reddit
Sounds like a really bad idea. Everyone that edits their photos thinks they did a perfect job and still looks totally like themselves but it's often very noticeable to everyone else.
Champagne_Bunnny@reddit
They say specifically that you can't use filters. Just submit the photo you don't have to show anyone except the people at the airport or whatever. Whatever it looks like I can 100% guarantee that it doesn't look as awful as my driving licence photo and I have to get that out much more often đ
Marzipan_civil@reddit
I always look terrible on passport photos and I figure that's how I'll be looking passing through immigration anyway so at least it'll match
RealLongwayround@reddit
No, it is specifically contrary to the rules. You may be lucky. But a passport photo is not the place for vanity.
liv-a-little@reddit
As my friendâs mum once wisely said, âAnyone who actually looks like their passport photo is probably too ill to travelâ.
No one looks good in a passport pic, so Iâd say just send the original unedited version and save yourself the possible extra cost
fireintheglen@reddit
âGoodâ means that it looks like a photo of a person meeting passport requirements. It doesnât tell you whether it looks sufficiently like you.
I would not under any circumstances apply a filter to a passport photo. Even if they accept it, that doesnât tell you how things will go when you actually try to use the passport. Iâd be particularly concerned about things like automatic passport gates which detect whether the person looking at the camera looks sufficiently like the passport photo. The fact that you (or another human) think that the filtered photo looks like you does not mean that a computer trained to match images will think youâre the same person.
I would not risk it.
sheepandlambs@reddit
Your photo must be a true representation of you. A digitally-alteres photo is not a true representation of you.
If you have altered the photo enough to remove whatever bit about your face you have taken issue with, you have also altered it enough to not be recognised. And if you've not altered it enough for that, you've broken the rules for no benefit.
Use a real, unaltered photo of you. Nobody at the passport office or at any border crossing will care about your ugly face, or whatever you think is wrong with it.
Rickietee10@reddit
You canât use filters you plant pot.
MiniCale@reddit
It says good on awful photos, I tested it with one taken in shit light with stuff in the background and it said good.
Made_Up_Name_1@reddit
That checker is assuming you've not doctored the photo other than to crop it. So all it's looking at is contrast, shadows, background, hats, glasses, all of your face is on view, eye colour discernible, biometric measurements will work etc etc and saying OK.
A human will look at it after you submit it and if the human thinks you've done any sort of editing other than cropping they will reject it.
So don't risk it. Passport photos are supposed to make you look awful :-)
Technical_Win973@reddit
A human will still check it and will still be able to see any filters applied and reject if they think it is tampered with.
Just submit the unedited photo. Having a passport photo you hate is a natural part of life.
Coconutpieplates@reddit
Why would you use a filter on documents that identify you? Your eyes will be unfiltered irl so people can see what you actually look like, you're only causing a problem to make your photo dissimilar. It specifically requests no retouching.
Pews4eva@reddit
Or just dont use a filter? If you donât look like what you do with the filter then whatâs the point?đ Itâs to prove you are you.
Cumulus-Crafts@reddit
Not good advice, but I edited my driving license photo (changed the warmth of the photo, filled in my eyebrows a little, got rid of my dark circles, added blush) and it was accepted. The edits were very minimal, it still looks exactly me, it was just enough to make me look less washed out from the bright white of the photo booth.
AirlineSevere7456@reddit
They might use tools to detect alterations on photos. But would have thought that would be implemented before saying it's "good", so who knows.
ZestyMonstera@reddit
Whatever screening tech they use is saying it's "good" based off of the requirements e.g. face not obscured, not smiling, not too far away or too close etc.
It is not judging whether it looks like you or whether you have used a Snapchat filter. If it doesn't look like you, you risk serious issues as passport control when you use your passport. Literally no one sees your passport other that people who are looking at 1000s of passports a day, why risk it by using a filter?
CoconutBandita@reddit
No. If it looks like you, why have you filtered it?
If you have filtered it so that it no longer looks like you, then it's not fit for purpose.
Stop being so vain and just use a normal, unedited photo.
ElectricalSwan@reddit
One of my kids was rejected even though the photo was âgoodâ. I think we got to resubmit without paying but maybe that was because it was a young child and difficult to photograph.
I wouldnât risk it with a filter though, just use a bit of makeup!
JonRoberts87@reddit
Even though it says good, passport photos should not be altered in anyway.
If they pick up at any point that it has been altered, it will be rejected, and you would risk having to pay again.
Would not chance it at all, especially if its not a renewal and you have to go for an interview
nali_cow@reddit
They might accept it, but they shouldn't.
flettywapp@reddit
Donât believe you need to pay. All you can do is submit and see if it gets accepted.
ImJustAnotherLlama@reddit
Should be fine.
YarnPenguin@reddit
No it looks like a big black blob and it will probably be rejected
