Make dental care part of your standard healthcare and covered under her health insurance, why are they separated, who separated them in the first place?

It's all a racket. Money is always the answer.

I had a chat with an optometrist friend once. She was adamant that everyone should see an eye doctor every 2 years at least, as so many major diseases can be easily diagnosed by the eyes. I told her that the only reason I was getting a checkup after 12 years was that we were friends, and that if it was so important, why wasn't it covered by health canada. She told me that when national healthcare was first put on the table, optometrists and dentists held a conference and decided they didn't want the extra patient load and that they wanted to be able to charge whatever they want, so they lobbied hard to be put in the same category as chiropractors, acupuncturists, and unregulated charlatans. So short answer is greed and laziness.

and in reality you should ideally be going every year.
PawPawsLilStinker@reddit
Actually you should go every month
mechadragon469@reddit
Actually you should go once a week
spyanryan4@reddit
You better be there right now tbh

I have a tiny doctor living INSIDE my eye all the time.

Maybe when you’re a kid or old or have concerns
WoolooOfWallStreet@reddit
Yep
Some disorders include “Wilson’s Disease” which can be caught early by looking for copper deposits at the edge of the outer iris
If not treated, it can result in life threatening organ failure

Reddit "we shouldnt have to work so many hrs". Also reddit "eff those lazy dentists for not wanting to work 80 hr weeks!!!"

Sleep doctors and foot doctors should be a part of standard healthcare. It’s well understood how proper sleep and footwear affect one’s health so why not have it become a part of the standard
trying3216@reddit
So shoes should be covered too.
970@reddit
I'm pretty sure shoes do the covering.
Broombear72@reddit
Only a prescription pair like how they do glasses but twice yearly. Also insurance helps cover the cost of a new mattress every 6 to 8 years
iheartnjdevils@reddit
I think both are typically covered in the US (sleep doctors are usually pulmonologists and foot doctors are podiatrists). My employer sponsored plans always have at least.
Awkward_Tick0@reddit
I think splitting it into two policies benefits the insurance providers because it makes it harder to hit your deductible and OOP max if they count in separate buckets
ParrishDanforth@reddit
Keeping them separate is the crazy idea.

If you haven't had a relationship or sex in the past 2 years, medical insurance should cover prostitutes. I truly believe this would improve the mental health of millions of men AND women.
Nate_Christ@reddit
In the US right now most prostitutes are extremely abused by their "employers" and this only makes them more money, and has them seeking more workers

The real crazy idea is in the comments.
Raging-Totoro@reddit
Why not throw Vision in there, while we're at it?
Mindless-Today-7382@reddit
Too crazy, slow down there
Neat_Shallot_606@reddit
How about hearing aids too?
trying3216@reddit
When insurance covers expensive procedures that would break a person’s budget it makes sense.
When insurance covers everyday inexpensive procedures it’s just a payment plan that includes profits for the insurance industry that don’t need to exist.
WolverinesThyroid@reddit
and that is what most vision and dental plans are. Sure you save $400 on glasses and $100 on an exam. But they only paid the office $250 and you or your employer paid $300 in premiums for the year.
MyDisneyExperience@reddit
Luxottica owns an insurance company, lens and frame manufacturers, and retail. It’s just moving money around between pockets.
WolverinesThyroid@reddit
they don't own all of them. Just a lot of them. Much like going to the dentist isn't just teeth cleaning, going to the eye doctor isn't just glasses.

Who is “her” and why should my dental care be covered under her insurance instead of mine?
GarbagePailGrrrl@reddit
Lisa needs braces!
Katie1230@reddit
Or... hear me out... universal Healthcare
stephanosblog@reddit
my healthcare plan does have dental coverage included. but why does it matter if it is a separate plan, either way you have to pay for the dental coverage.
shelms488@reddit
here’s a good explanation of why dental & vision aren’t included in health insurance.
RandomGuy_81@reddit
Not everyone wants to pay extra for vision or dental. Some people opt out. You can have meh health insurance and great dental from different carriers
Delta dental pretty much became defacto choice for dental nowadays
Lazarus558@reddit
How is this idea "crazy"?
