Over 30,000 miles later, and we’re still loving our HRG 4.5" lifted 2024 Honda Passport on 33" tires. It’s incredibly comfortable, surprisingly capable off-road, and still manages 22+ mpg on the highway even with the roof box. (Keeping a steady 65-70 mph)

HRG Offroad 4.5" Lift, Nolo Design Skid Plates, 265-70-18 Goodyear Duratrac RT Tires, Dirtcom Trailswing Tire Carrier.

Ahhh just saw your post on the "notajeep off-roaders" dope build!

> Our Honda Passport
Snicker.
>Surprisingly capable off road.
Bah ha ha.
> 22mpg highway
Oh... you don't say?!
Toyota Sequoia, lifted, Bilstein, Old Man Emu, Slee Offroad suspension, ARB bumper, Warn 12k winch, 35" Nitto Ridge Grappler tires - pulling a High Altitude Trailers XT50 - My wife, 3 kids, and two dogs through Colorado, Utah, New Mexico... 6 mpg. Yep. Six.

I go to offroad events around the east coast. It has impressed everyone every time. It is not a rock crawler, but it can do things no mom van has business doing. 24:1 crawl ratio, active torque vectoring, 70% of the power to the rear.
LiveMarionberry3694@reddit
24:1 isn’t exactly a crawl ratio I’d be bragging about tbh
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
Not bad for a mom van if you ask me!
LiveMarionberry3694@reddit
I always joke that my 4 door wrangler is a mom van since the 4 doors get so much hate in parts of the jeep community
dubloqq@reddit
That looks like an absolute hoot to drive up lol
LiveMarionberry3694@reddit
I definitely put the skid plates and rock rails to good use. I’m only on 33s.
I was also a solo vehicle…. Which probably wasn’t the best idea. But she made it. I also have a winch just in case but luckily didn’t need it
dubloqq@reddit
I bet haha, glad to hear you made it through. Do you have any lift or just the 33s?
LiveMarionberry3694@reddit
Suspension and drivetrain are stock
chuston_ai@reddit
I acknowledge, grudgingly, that your Honda is pretty dope.
MilitantPotato@reddit
I've a built up f150 towing a 2k lb boondocking trailer and get 17mpg highway. 6mpg is wild.
Only thing I sometimes wish I had was cut bumpers, but then breakover becomes the major issue. Handles anything I'd be willing to do solo with the kids in tow at least.
We regularly do 3k+ trips traveling for work so mpgs matters a fair bit. Having a cali king (I'm 6'8) and queen sized bed for our family of 5 and dog has been amazing.
What's your setup looking like? Here's ours. https://imgur.com/a/VfkXEcL
Von_Satan@reddit
Agreed. My F-150 on 35s gets 15-18 mpg highway.
That is around 1500 lbs payload, roof top tent above the cab, etc.
MilitantPotato@reddit
I only lost 2mpg with a level on 33s, skids, etc vs stock. Averages 23.5 highway, 23ish city with a powerboost. Went for lightweight LT E tires to keep efficiency and offroad suspension performance high. Tires are only 49lbs.
chuston_ai@reddit
The kids sleep inside the trailer, it has a queen and a fold down cot. My wife and I get the king size in the iKamper RTT. The dogs get the hatch back on the Sequoia.
Dry, the trailer is \~2800 lbs. With 38gal of water, generator, food, enough for about a week without resupply, \~3,300lbs.

We call that the Toyota Tax
jonboy345@reddit
Yup. This is one of the reasons I'm hopeful that the RAM 1500 REV/EREV proves the generator -> batteries -> e-axles powertrain works...
All the upsides to an EV regarding torque, but none of the range limitations.
Seems like Ford is following suit with a Lightning EREV. Hoping someone with a better reputation for reliability than either jumps in soon.
khatidaal@reddit
6 mpg 🤯🤯
rouselle@reddit
Jealous. Wish my Tacoma could get that kind of mileage!
marenott@reddit
Where do you go in it
Uncle_Paul_Hargis@reddit
This looks sick. I do feel like Hondas don't get near the love they deserve.
Shmokesshweed@reddit
Pretty impressive mpg for that V6 and weight.
Former_Travel2839@reddit
Damn that fuel economy is impressive. Offroad tires killed mine, but was still worth it.
drewforty@reddit
Looks neat. $1500 for a spacer lift, even if it spaces a lot of things, seems like a lot. That's more than a Dobinsons Nitro extended travel shock/spring lift for a 5th Gen / GX. I imagine the stock UCAs are the first to bind and there isn't much droop? I'd love to see Kai from Tinkerer's Adventure take it apart and do some measurements. If your speedo isnt calibrated for the new tire your 24.2 avg is probably more like 25.5. (distance traveled is longer than indicated for the same fuel burn)
bb8c3por2d2@reddit
I never would have guessed
devildog_cipher@reddit
Im surprised your LKAS isint going ape shit. If you ever need a windshield done, good luck. Youll need to return it back to factory lift and tires.
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
I've already had a windshield done. You just have to tell them not to re-calibrate. I've tested and the lkas system and it still works the same after the repair. Either way it is marginally useful with this model.
devildog_cipher@reddit
Yeah, that non calibration BS is a no go. Hondas LKAS system is also linked to your breaking system as well. Too much liability.
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
You would feel the same about the lift. Correct?
devildog_cipher@reddit
Yes. In my shop, we would have a pretty intense conversation about what youve done to the vehicle and how it affects your safety sytems. Dont get me wrong, the honda looks incredible but it was never designed for this kind of modification.
tallgeese333@reddit
This sub will never want to hear anything rational about builds.
Also, 30k miles and he already got a windshield done? What a coincidence he already addressed your exact concern.
This Passport costs as much as a real 4x4 with none of the capability. The mods are dumb, everything is a 4x4 if you don't care enough.
lpratte91@reddit
Sweet rig. Got the same rear tire bag on my Landcruiser. Love it so far
EndzoneWeenie222@reddit
Damn! I have never seen a Honda pilot overland build. It looks fucking sick!!!! Great job
AggressiveChange420@reddit
wth is this? where is the overlanding part?
paternaldock@reddit
I do like the look of the new passports. Did you have to regear?
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
The new passports can't be lifted 4.5" so I am happy with the 2024. The 8 speed transmission handles the increased tires size very well. I can still chirp tires off the launch! Regearing is difficult and I am only aware of one shop attempting the mod.
vaporintrusion@reddit
I was looking at the new Passports and hoping they could be modded with some extra lift. Seems you've done a little research: can they not be lifted because of the design or lack of aftermarket support yet?
Yours looks great, thanks for sharing.
tallgeese333@reddit
Costs as much a real 4x4 and the new Toyotas are hybrid. This is a gigantic waste of money if you actually need to go offroad. Just be realistic about where you will actually be going, keep it stock, and keep the MPG even higher.
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
They can be lifted, but not 4.5". HRG makes a 2" lift for the 2026 model. I believe it is due to the new geometry.
HighDINSLowStandards@reddit
Looks cool, that mpg is weaker than I would expect. My full size f150 gets 19-21mpg on the freeway with 34 inch tires.
xWretchedWorldx@reddit
If he removed the roof box it'll probably be at 25 mpg. Still pretty good imo.
thePunisher1220@reddit
How do these do on rougher trails? I know Honda's don't get many off-road features, even the "trail sport" models.
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
Check out Gotter Adventure on YT to see videos of the Passport Offroad
Same_Lack_1775@reddit
Where is the marking for advertisement
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
Help me understand. What is an advertisement? My mod list?
iceyconditions@reddit
Honda would never condone this anyway lol
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
Honda brought JonDZ and his lifted Passport to their events!
teriaksu@reddit
from your title it looks like you are advertising a product, "Over 30,000 miles later, and we’re still loving our HRG 4.5" lifted 2024 Honda Passport". It wouldn't be the first time a company tries to hide ads as personal posts.
As to the marking, there are flairs made especially for these kind of ads
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
Its not an add. It a post I made appreciating my vehicle with relevant information to stem all the questions that will invariably come.
Same_Lack_1775@reddit
Apologies for getting it wrong. I did think it was an add but apparently got it wrong. I’m glad you like it. I’ve seen it only once out on the road and it’s a nice looking vehicle.
teriaksu@reddit
i'm not saying it is or it isn't, i'm just explaining the 1st level comment you replied to
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
Understood, Thanks!
Same_Lack_1775@reddit
The whole thing reads like an add. Teriaksu said it better than me.
smashnmashbruh@reddit
Nice. Love seeing more utilized and normal setups.
thebbygiraffe@reddit
This is cool. It’s not my thing but I love what you’re doing here.
Kxchap@reddit
Dude! I literally just watched your video on Monday reviewing the bunker awning, and was convinced to try it out, thank you! Love this set up, it looks mean as hell
tacotowgunner@reddit
What model Thule is that? I’ve been looking for something similar? TIA
HondaPilotOverland@reddit (OP)
It is an old Thule 669es Mountaineer my Grandpa gave me. I love the slim long shape. I was able to fit full size fishing rods on our recent trip to Florida.
Infamous_Charge2666@reddit
Meh . 30k miles is not enough to show reliability.
Fan boi like post
AloneDoughnut@reddit
When my Bronco decided it's electronic spaghetti was all bad and was going to slowly cook itself, the only non-truck I looked at was a 2025 Passport. It was a real great ride, but my wife's desire for a fairly large trailer (and Ford throwing every discount and deal at me) pushed me into an F150. I have recommended the Passport a few times to people, it's probably the only Honda product I'd buy anymore.
