Important to note that the BBC did not actually identify anyone who successfully claimed asylum this way, they identified companies that are charging asylum seekers for this "advice".

Pose? If I needed to be gay to get out of a war torn country, I'm sucking dick tonight.
But seriously, this sucks and I can only imagine the most immediate path forward is to punish the legal advisors to deincetivise this action. Of course they might just be doing their best to get people out of a bad situation. It sucks.

I wonder if they had to prove they’re gay when crossing borders

I did know Pakistan was a war torn country. The shady law films just want to make money they don't care about about the people they claim to help.
ShamScience@reddit
It's a little bit war-torn. Conflicts with both India and Afghanistan recently, and decades of the same with India in particular. How big do the war-tears have to get before a person is justified in not wanting to live there?

Not wanting to live there is fine but lying about lying about being an asylum seeker isn't the where to go about it. It would make life harder for people who are genuinely in need of asylum.

I was just giving a general tragic origin location, not neccecarly Pakistan.

Notably it mentions Pakistan and Bangladesh, very anti-LGBTQ countries. This means that the people using this tactic to stay in the UK could be disproportionately homophobic.
If this issue isn’t corrected, their could be a backlash against LGBTQ Arabs from both sides of the aisle with the left accusing them of being fake gay and the rights accusing them of being real gays.

I would think anyone using this tattic as at least indifferent about the issue. I never understood this assumption that the people immigrating are ultra-conservatives and the liberals in those countries are the ones staying behind.
Meow-The-Jewels@reddit
They don't think that, they think that people coming from a country that is much further right in every way than most or all of the west will be more conservative by default than the average person
mrastickman@reddit
Based on what? Are North Koreans who defect to the South more left-wing? Or are they ones who disagreed with that society and wanted to leave?
Meow-The-Jewels@reddit
Clearly did not understand my point if this is your response
mrastickman@reddit
Because they're leaving, why would they not be far more likely to actually be gay or otherwise not fit with that society, which they are leaving.
Meow-The-Jewels@reddit
Well this article is about people not being actually gay so I'd say it fair to assume these people are not
Also being gay does not automatically make somebody not conservative, we have plenty of gay people in the West that happily support people that hate them.
Also also, they're not leaving cause their countries aren't progressive enough for them lol they're leaving for far more serious reasons

I don't know but I they they are lot of them just very hungry or going to be killed by the the state
Alex09464367@reddit (OP)
They would be at least less indifferent to being gay then wanting to stay in the UK

It is diabolical to use such a persecuted and marginalized group in your birth country to make false asylum claims. I feel so sorry for people like Ejal Khan and wonder how he even goes through his work, wondering if he’s helping fellow LGBT people or not? If he’s letting potentially homophobic people into what’s supposed to be a safe space for British Muslim LGBT or not?

Summary of the article, for the who only read the headline
While it is vital to recognise that not all refugees are making up their claims, a recent BBC undercover investigation has secured evidence of a % people who are faking it with the help of a shadow industry. Reporters found that certain unregulated advisers and law firms are charging migrants often those whose student or work visas are expiring thousands of pounds to fabricate cover stories, stage photos at LGBTQI events, and even manufacture bogus medical records to secure asylum in the UK. Although charities and advocacy groups stress that these fraudulent schemes must not be used to undermine the credibility of genuine LGBTQI asylum seekers who face real and violent persecution in their home countries
