ULPT Request: how do I stop kids screaming outside my house?
Posted by d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 60 comments
The long and short of it is a group of kids, roughly 6-11 scream while playing outside my house everyday for hours. I am autistic and the noise upsets me, I can hear it through headphones. I've tried complaining to the parents, they don't care. I've tried standing outside, which just got me filmed and screamed at. ATP I'm willing to do anything.
mrfuzzyshorts@reddit
For once, there are some kids out side playing, getting excercise, using their imagination; instead of inside on phones/tablets/video games..And just so happen to be next to OP
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
The issue is the screaching. I don't mind the general playing noises
Awkward_South_8151@reddit
Ear plugs
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
Loop earplugs and cans didn't help. I'm looking for unethical tips
Master_Baiter11@reddit
Love how according to most comments so far it's OP's problem kids are screaming outside their house and they should stfu about it. Man people on here are a special kind of ableist aren't they?
Don't really have a great solution for you op. I'm also autistic and I haven't got really good noise cancelling headphones so if you have the resources maybe getting really good ones does work, I hear they work wonders. Good luck
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
It's a struggle to find them cheaply with Bluetooth is my issue, but I'll keep looking
Master_Baiter11@reddit
Yeah, good noise cancelling headphones are hard to come by. Good ones are expensive. I have a pair of soundcore q30 and they're definitely not sound proof but better than nothing
justanotherdude68@reddit
The world doesn’t and shouldn’t change to accommodate one person.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
I literally never said they shouldn't play. Playing does not include screaming bloody murder for hours every day.
Master_Baiter11@reddit
Again bro you're getting down voted for being reasonable, just because people come in assuming stuff about you. While others, like in this thread of comments, come in to defend ass holes that straight out flamed you for being distressed by screaming kids. Fuckin guys
A_S_Levin@reddit
OP has refused to say exactly where the kids are. You're assuming theyre right outside his house. They're likely just neighbours playing in their own yard or in the street.
Im also autistic and have the same problem with the neighbours.
My family's kids visit and just want to doomscroll youtube on the couch for hours.
People should just be happy the newer generation is still able to enjoy the outside.
Touch grass, go for a walk, buy better headphones.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
RIGHT outside my house. Not exaggerating. Because they know I don't like it.
Master_Baiter11@reddit
They're down voting you for, let me check, giving them the facts.
A_S_Levin@reddit
Is it a shared driveway and they're just playing outside?
If they're on your property then that's trespassing and honestly worth reporting (though i doubt cops would care.). Could maybe get a hose or sprinkler going.
There still isnt really enough details to suggest a solid resolution. But I appreciate you responded genuinely.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
Not a shared driveway, they're not even from my street they come from a few different streets in the neighbourhood. I think they started playing here because it's a dead end and safer than a main road (which is good! I like that they're safe). They congregate just outside the driveway. (And scream. So loudly. Endlessly).
A_S_Levin@reddit
So are you living in a cul-de-sac and they're just playing in it?
Pedal2Medal2@reddit
This is a you problem; if you live in a family neighborhood, chances are you’ll hear kids. Either get better noise cancelling earphones or move to a very rural area with lots of acreage
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
I'm 17 I didn't choose this
Pedal2Medal2@reddit
It doesn’t matter; I sympathize, but ultimately you’ll have to learn to manage, as you’ll always have sensory overload issues
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
Correct. Most I can manage with headphones and stimming. This one I can't, it's been months of stress and meltdowns.
Pedal2Medal2@reddit
Then you need to talk to whatever adults you’re living with to help you get some type of therapeutic assistance to help cope with
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
Bro thinks sensory issues can be helped with therapy
Green_Yesterday3054@reddit
Move
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
In this economy?
Green_Yesterday3054@reddit
Well if you’re living with your mom and not paying rent, I hear you. Otherwise, move.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
I'm a minor. Trust me I will be moving as soon as possible
gartlandish@reddit
Headphones
SaltyCarpet@reddit
Yep, get better headphones. If you’re able to hear outside noise through your headphones it’s because they’re crappy, OP. I can’t even hear people right next to me when the noise cancelling function is on.
Jahbahdiah@reddit
Yes, OP should pay out of pocket, as a minor no less, for the garbage parenting skills (or lack thereof) of his neighbors.
Bob_A_Feets@reddit
Go spend a few days at an indoor gym range without any hearing protection.
Now you won’t hear anything outside except ringing.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
England 💔
Bob_A_Feets@reddit
Even more ULPT!
Jahbahdiah@reddit
People on this sub give the most unhinged and often times potentially criminal, not just illegal, advice, but like in many scenarios, a lot of peiple will suddenly draw the line when and where it is convenient.
I am in a similar situation and even live on the 4th floor. Windows closed shut with great isolation, noise cancelling headphones and yet unless I blast music and risk ruining my hearing it will not be enough.
Just like in my anecdotal experience the same likely applies here. The people down voting or virtue signalling about le next generations will mostly be parents. And guess what the primary reason for them being fine with the noise, but then lose their shit about any noises even outside their quiet hours?
Because every kid you hwar screaming outside is the equivalent of at least one adult mindlessly doomscrolling tiktok or on a bench somewhere talking to other parents.
This creates undisciplined kids who will later become those mobs you see in the UK for example, that gather and storm a store by the dozens, at best causing a disturbance and at worse shoplifting and destroying everything in their wake.
The argument that "oh it's just how kids play" is invalid. It's bad or even absent parenting. None of the kids I grew up with caused a disturbance when we were out playing, from primary school all the way into highschool football.
But tell off parents for still letting their kids scream even during quiet hours after they left their kids out in the sun and 35+ celsius weather screaming all day long already and ofc none of them will ever admit they are shit at parenting, even less likely to do so around orher parents.
Eventually you won't even need an ULPT, OP, the parents eould rather therr offspring run around screaming on concrete and every so often you will hear a fall and crying. Eventually they will stop letting kids run around injuring themselves in apartment buildings' parking lots and actially take them to a park for once.
Rant over.
If you find solutions let me know. Personally I start blasting music with highly obscene lyrics and leave the window open. I haven't been able to get my hands on a high pitched acoustic device yet, but I imagine hooking one up to an amp like a megaphone could work, but something to better direct the sound could work better.
Not a whole lot else comes to mind. You can hope one of the kids has an older brother that smokes and he starts stealing and distributing the cigs to his mates, you will have a massive ban on playing outside soon enough. Sadly though in this day and age they will probably pe popping pills before their absent minded tik tok scrolling brain rotted parents even notice.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
They play ball games near cars so I hope they hit one and someone else complains tbh
Ednathurkettle@reddit
You can get teenage deterrents which play a high pitched noise children can hear and adults can't
A_S_Levin@reddit
Hope there's no dogs anywhere nearby. Or other wildlife for the matter.

This is unethical tips
A_S_Levin@reddit
Dgaf. I'm not encouraging minor abuse.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
Why you mad ^w^
A_S_Levin@reddit
Why you mad? Fix your problems yourself lol dont expect the world to stop for you.
starboundowl@reddit
OP is a child.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
Thanks!
RageReq@reddit
Wait is that what I'm constantly hearing when I pass certain houses? This high pitched sound that almost makes me unable to hear anything for a second. I'm not a kid at all though so maybe it's not that but I'm always curious what the sound is; it seems to be motion activated.
Ednathurkettle@reddit
Yes it might be. The problem is that you may have more sensitive hearing so still able to hear that frequency. It's worth the OP at least trying it out
__ma11en69er__@reddit
No help here grumpy!
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
It's called autism and noise sensitivity, grumpy
A_S_Levin@reddit
You cant expect the entire planet to stop spinning just to accommodate you. Learn to deal with uncomfortable shit yourself.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
God you're pissed lmao. Glad I'm living rent free
mgquantitysquared@reddit
Those kids seem to be living rent free in your head, tbf. Why not just invest in high quality noise canceling headphones? If your sensory sensitivity is that high, it's definitely a worthwhile investment
A_S_Levin@reddit
Who said I was pissed? I'm just killing time trying to fall asleep hun x
__ma11en69er__@reddit
That's what noise cancelling headphones are for.
1badh0mbre@reddit
Noise canceling headphones.
Law_hacker_1000@reddit
1) put beware of dog sign prominently around property 2) record a rotwiller or pitbull barking. 3) get an amplifier and a raspberry pi with sound output 4) put a sound sensor outside your home 5) program pi to play dog barking at very high volume at wall on sound detection input . . . 7) profit
epileptus@reddit
Why are they outside your house? A playground? A bench?
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
You'd think so wouldn't you
A_S_Levin@reddit
Not very helpful response.
Just be happy the newer generation is outside.
Im also autistic and have the same problem with my neighbours kids. But my family also has kids around. I MUCH prefer knowing my neighbours are outside enjoying life, compared to my family who sit on my couch doomscrolling YouTube for hours.
Get over yourself. Invest in some better headphones.
nayrwolf@reddit
Give them something to scream about. Buy the most awful zombie costume in creation and at random times put it on and scare the living shit out of kids. When the parents lose their shit let them know that the kids need a reason to scream and you gave them one.
d3ad-and-buri3d@reddit (OP)
I like your style
BluBeams@reddit
The kids in my neighborhood, including my kids, play, ride their bikes, run around and scream outside our houses when the weather's nice. It's a joy to hear and it doesn't bother anyone. The kids are safe, they're getting exercise and don't have their faces in a screen consuming brainrot.
ULPT: find a way to acquire better quality noise cancelling headphones. Leave the kids alone.
Phelpysan@reddit
How far outside? Sprinklers could put them off
