Watching a video where an influencer went to a car museum, and he said this when he saw the mirthmobile. Are we that old?

Yes we are that old. This is comparable to a car from a movie in 1958 was this came out in 1992.
OldArtichoke433@reddit
I was at Petersen a few weeks back with my 18 year old son. We walked past the Mirthmobile and I was like wow that is the Pacer from Wayne’s World. He was like, is that a Movie or something?
I felt immediately older than usual.
detective_bookman@reddit
You had 18 years to show him the movie!
OldArtichoke433@reddit
Yeah, but it’s not a great movie lol. It was just pop culture lexicon in the 90s.
engrish_is_hard00@reddit
Yes yes we are

I thought it was the murphmobile

Speaking of, how many people had nicknames for their car/friends car? My buddies gold volvo stationwagon was nicknamed Goldfinger, that thing got the crew to the mall, concerts, etc many many times.

Fuckin influencers
Canadatron@reddit
People don't watch old anything anymore. They know nothing of the past, it's almost crazy.
Daylight-Silence@reddit
Wayne's World is as old today as Vertigo was when Wayne's World came out

The final Nirvana album is closer to the first Beatles album than it is to today.

We are as far away from Raiders of the Lost Ark's release (1981) as it was from the year it took place in (1936).

A) This is a hate crime
B) I see your hate crime, and raise you it having been longer since “All I Want for Christmas is You” came out than, when that song came out, it had been the Beatles made their US debut.

And speaking of Raiders, that movie has a quote that I think is the best summation of aging: "It's not the years, sweetheart, it's the mileage.:
I didn't understand what the hell Indiana Jones was talking about back then, but I sure do now.
TrustAffectionate966@reddit
I expect them. They literally have a supercomputer on their hand. It can even talk to them.

If I had a smartphone in 1992, I shudder to think what I'd have been doing with it, but it damn sure wouldn't have been studying the minutiae of Hitchcock
one_among_the_fence@reddit
It's also not that prominent in the movie. A couple exterior shots, but for the most part, it's the interior of the car that the audience sees the most.
Peja1611@reddit
To be fair, everyone should be familiar with the film adaptation. Even if you don't care about the plot, Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman at their apex of hotness? Lordy, that was a LOT of beauty on that screen....
jackfaire@reddit
I haven't seen the movie in 34 years I didn't recognize the car
Pantsickle@reddit
You speak for.your goddamn self! Just because I limp for the first half hour of every day does not mean I'm old, it just means that...oh. Nevermind.
three-sense@reddit
That wasn’t necessary
Pitiful_Ad2397@reddit
We are.
JamesMattDillon@reddit
Also have to remember, not everyone has seen every single movie
Suitable-Peanut@reddit
I've seen Wayne's world a dozen times and I actually saw this guy's video about the cars and I didn't recognize this one either! Guess it wasn't as culturally important to me.
JamesMattDillon@reddit
I recognized it right off, but I absolutely loved the movie and just recently watched it again
MsBlondeViking@reddit
Nor does every xennial love every movie that’s from our era. Which seems to be an expectation here.
JamesMattDillon@reddit
This sub sure does make it seem like we all every single movie made during our era
whistleridge@reddit
I had no idea what this was. I guess I saw that movie once when it came out, but I was very meh on it and it had no formative impact on my youth. But we never watched SNL.
I think if you were a certain age and a certain background this was a big deal, and for everyone else it’s just another forgettable SNL movie.
Brandamn3000@reddit
I agree with your point that people shouldn’t expect to recognize this car almost 35 years later. But to be fair, it was featured in the infamous “Bohemian Rhapsody” scene that was wildly popular at the time. That scene basically resurrected the song from its radio grave and the rereleased music video that featured the scene won an MTV award for Queen. So a lot of the “MTV Generation” would probably remember this car even without seeing the movie.
TrustAffectionate966@reddit
Wayne’s World will be screening at The Regal today.

The second I read or hear the word "influencer", I shut off my brain to the context it's being used and move on with my life.

I wanted to install a red rope dispenser on my first car
kalebdraws@reddit
Well, the upside is they WISH they knew this movie. All of our culture is back in fashion again.
MsBlondeViking@reddit
If it wasn’t for comments, I’d have NO clue what this car is from.
Smoky1279@reddit
I saw this car, or possibly a copy, at Paramount's Kings Island outside of Cincinnati in 1994ish
Puglet_7@reddit
Paramount Canada’s Wonderland had it too in the 90’s for some years before they got bought out.

I’ve seen the film, a bunch of times. I’ve seen the Queen music video interspersed with scenes from this film hundreds of times.
I couldn’t tell you what that car looked like. Hell, I don’t even recognize this.
