Random shows I watched in the late 80’s - early 90s

I think the first two are fairly obscure. I remember the koala eating the eucalyptus leaves in The Nozzles. I was obsessed with David the Gnome and would make cone hats out of construction paper. The fox was named Swift.
Mogwai02@reddit
I was absolutely SAT for both koala shows.
Laughing_Bear_Foot@reddit
Dino-Riders
russ257@reddit
Yes I feel like nobody ever remembers noozles
GreenZebra23@reddit
I remember the visual of the koalas but not that title or literally anything else about that show at all
goat_penis_souffle@reddit
There was another koala show on at the same time on Nick Jr that was more of a straightforward kids show, none of the fantasy elements of Noozlrs
-OccultOfPersonality@reddit
Was a good show.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
Loved both Noozles and The Little Koala. Wrap those up with a little Maya the Bee and Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics and you’ve got a good morning.
-OccultOfPersonality@reddit
These shows were the best part of staying home sick. Add on a little Price is Right for good measure.
LovelyHead82@reddit
Yesssssssss!
GoodMorningDye@reddit
OMG. I have been trying to figure out what this show was called for YEARS. Like no one had any idea what I was talking about!?
No9No9No9No9@reddit
Australia/Koalas was such a trend in the 80s. There's a kangaroo episode of David the Gnome
LilDanglyOnes@reddit
Loved it. Used to run around with my teddy bear pretending I was them.
randgan@reddit
I spent a decade trying to convince people my own age that there was a show about a Koala and his friends in Australia. And there was this adult character wearing a trench coat that sometimes watched them from a distance with a lemur in his shoulder. And that this wasn't the weirdest show featuring Koalas on Nick Jr.
sorrymizzjackson@reddit
Exactly that. It’s familiar enough to me without knowing the first thing about it.
desertdweller2011@reddit
i remember she drew a circle on the wall (with… lipstick?) and it turned into a portal and she went somewhere with the koala.
portmanteautally@reddit
The thing I remember most about this show was that the kid had a light switch next to the bed. I wanted that so bad.
mizushimo@reddit
I didn't remember the name that's for sure. I remember the finale was at Aires's Rock, they had to get to it so they could go back home (I think they were aliens?) I remember the ending made me feel emotions but I don't exactly rememeber why.
luxtabula@reddit
Was Maya the bee an anime? I thought it was Western.
mizushimo@reddit
The 1975 version was anime, I think the newer cgi version was western. Nickolodean aired a bunch of dubbed anime children's shows in the 80s when it was getting started
luxtabula@reddit
Wait they made a new one? I only know the one when I'm a kid, that must be the 70s version you're talking about.
mizushimo@reddit
I google maya the bee and got mainly cgi images from newer release, I don't know anything about it though
pawogub@reddit
I didn’t remember what it was called, but I remembered I liked it. A few years back thanks to an internet search I found the weird koala show I loved as a preschooler.
IceSmiley@reddit
That's the first anime I watched and even on a site like MyAnimeList with all the weebs no one remembers it
deephurting66@reddit
I have vague memories of the show but seeing the pictures brought back some long dead memories. I remember it was on Nickelodeon??
luxtabula@reddit
I have fever dream of the noozles monthly. I can still remember Ayrs Rock... err, Uluru being a major focus point of it. Sadly the only archives of it are in 240p, I wish it got an upscale.
Messijoes18@reddit
Honestly one of those shows I want to go back and watch as an adult. The lore and the story were very interesting to me as a kid and I've never been able to piece it all together. Still makes me wonder what the hell happened.
PoisonMind@reddit
The whole series is on YouTube. In Nickelodeon anime tradition, the last episode or two goes really off the rails.
neonbrownkoopashell@reddit
Right?! This and The Little Koala were my favorite
Swimming-Squash-3573@reddit
I remember an episode of Noozles that really….unsettled me. The main character’s grandfather was forever trapped in an orb in Koala land. She could talk to him and you could see his shadow and handprints, but he was stuck there forever. It traumatized me!
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
I remember that episode vividly and was also disturbed lol
randgan@reddit
This one scene from the intro of Nick Jr's Grimm's Fairy Tales Classics gave me nightmares for years.
Absolutely banger of a theme song though.
LovelyHead82@reddit
Loved those fairy tales, my favorite was Jorinda & Joringel
AdditionalMustard@reddit
Yeah, it dawned on me much later that Noozles was adapted from an anime, then it totally made sense.
granadesnhorseshoes@reddit
Yeah. I also seem to remember it went pretty hard for a "kids show" about living stuffed animals from another dimension. Probably why i liked it; a generation spanning inter dimensional romp was miles ahead of the rest of the shit aimed at 6 year olds.
TheLuminousKnife@reddit
Same. That was horribly dark, especially for a kids' cartoon!
LovelyHead82@reddit
I definitely remember the Noozles on Nick Jr. but no one else I know have ever heard of it
Ill-Complaint-6634@reddit
The only ransom is the first one
on_fleekwoodmac@reddit
Are you me?
PatchworkGirl82@reddit
I freaking love Noozles! Magical koalas from another dimension is the best way to get into anime. I wish they'd bring it back.
Crusader1865@reddit
I believe it was called "Koala-walla Land"
CaterpillarWaltz@reddit
And the portal was Ayers Rock. With dancing ostriches? Emus? I loved that show when I was li and was convinced it was a fever dream
xzelldx@reddit
All the animals in the alternate dimension were Australia themed. It teased deep lore; I’ve gone back as an adult and it’s not there.
There’s an implied time loop, but that’s it. The first half actually feels like it’s setting things up and then …. Random bullshit go!
CaterpillarWaltz@reddit
I will make up my own deep lore then
BumpyWire83@reddit
It was the Noozles in my region!
x7leafcloverx@reddit
For the longest time I thought this show was a fever dream
Modem_Handshake@reddit
I think that show, David the Gnome, Fluppy Dogs, Today’s Special, and many more were fever dreams to me
x7leafcloverx@reddit
Fluppy dogs I have no recollection of but man, today’s special! Watched that with my upstairs neighbors all the time.
UnicornTears@reddit
When I was a kid, I was told that koalas get high from eating eucalyptus (they don’t), so the fever dream/trip thing made sense to me 😆
TheDodoBird@reddit
All classics! And David the Gnome was definitely one of my favorites too when it was still on.
However, you’ve got Hey Dude but no Salute My Shorts!? I’m disappointed, my dude…
LogensTenthFinger@reddit
The series end to David The Gnome crushed me
PokieState92@reddit
Yeah, some buzzkill of a redditor posted a clip of the last few minutes of the very last episode of David The Gnome a few weeks ago where they tell Swift the Fox " welp, time to die and turn into trees". Swift was really heartbroken and the gnomes die and turned into trees. Kinda ruined my day. I never knew about this show until watching that clip. Extra bonus for Tom Bosley voicing one of the gnomes.
Doubleucommadj@reddit
TOM! TOM BOSLEY!
PokieState92@reddit
I'm of a certain age and generation where he will first and foremost be known to me for playing Richie Cunningham's dad on Happy Days.
Doubleucommadj@reddit
Yeah, me too.
CokBlockinWinger@reddit
Bodley voiced THE gnome. He was David the Gnome.
RanHakubi@reddit
They were just so...CASUAL about it too! Like "Yup, it's dyin' time."
IceSmiley@reddit
That's terrible I didn't know it ended that way 🙁
LogensTenthFinger@reddit
Just casually waving goodbye to Swift as all his friends die 😭
Modem_Handshake@reddit
What. The. Fuck.
PackageNorth8984@reddit
All quality but missing the goat.
-NigheanDonn@reddit
I think everyone remembers Salute My Shorts but not as many people remember Hey Dude
AquariusRising1983@reddit
My very same thought. Hey Dude but no Salute Your Shorts is criminal!
David the Gnome was one of my favorite shows as a little kid. I loved Swift the fox. I always got so invested in every episode. The series ending was pretty devastating, as far as I recall. I literally haven't watched it in over 30 years and I always think maybe I'll put it on one day and see how it holds up from an adult perspective.
Morns4Morn@reddit
It's currently free on Tubi.
No9No9No9No9@reddit
It's not bad at all, really cute Gnome lore in most episodes from the big book. It is a kid's show so some of it can be a bit annoying with the trolls as an adult, but it's not bad.
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
Omg I forgot about this show! Definitely watched that. Also remembered Clarissa explains it all
CaterpillarWaltz@reddit
I loved Clarissa! And all of these except the last one (zero memory of it so I guess I didn’t watch it)
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
The last wasn’t on very long, I think it tried to be a saved by the bell type show but it wasn’t the same. I was probably trying to watch 90210 by then (parents said no lol)
CaterpillarWaltz@reddit
Sometimes “patty you’re the mayonnaise for me woah woah woah” pops in my head.
And yeah, I was strictly forbidden from watching Out of Control after one episode. All I really remember of it was the ‘cut it out’ from Dave Coulier. No one around me remembers. The internet had to validate me.
But what about Pete and Pete?
smcivor1982@reddit
I loved all of these shows plus Are You Afraid of the Dark. Nick at Night was so good.
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
I do remember Pete and Pete but I didn’t like it! I remember thinking they were weird lol
Doubleucommadj@reddit
You should give it another shot. It's about the best thing Nick ever made. And the eventual stars it contained, wild!
jpetrie18@reddit
I remember it being on the same Saturday block as Saved by the Bell: The New Class.
smcivor1982@reddit
Also Pete and Pete!!!!!
schindigrosa@reddit
OP left us no option....AWFUL WAFFLE, AWFUL WAFFLE, AWFUL WAFFLE!!!!!!
KDiggity8@reddit
Growing up in Minnesota, David the Gnome was right up my alley. It seemed very Scandinavian.
One day recently, out of nostalgia, I looked it up. My mind was BLOWN when I found out it was from Spain?!?!?!?!
goat_penis_souffle@reddit
The production was from Spain, but the book it was based on is unmistakably Scandinavian. All hand drawn & lettered like a field notebook, very much worth tracking down.
WayneReidus@reddit
Ok well if you mention Salute Your Shorts I think you also have to include the Adventures of Pete & Pete
Modem_Handshake@reddit
I know I’ve written this elsewhere about P&P but I’ll never forget the episode where the brothers are in a feud with some other brothers and the Petes are jealous bc one of those brothers for some reason got a lot of praise from his dad for filling up a vacuum with grass seed and running it in reverse to reseed the yard. A) what the fuck? B) could you even run vacuums in reverse? C) this show had a weird vibe
Prudent-Soil6116@reddit
I mean, it was devastating, but also beautiful how they became a part of everything. I think if you’re going to present death to kids, this was the perfect way to do it. It happens to all of us, and presenting it from the perspective of humanity being part of the “circle of life” is chefs kiss. Of death. So to speak 😁
Proof_Heart_2993@reddit
I agree. It's important for kids to learn about death as a natural part of life; not something to be hidden away, denied, or feared. Like how they dealt with Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street or Mr. Rodgers talking about the loss of his dog as a child and his goldfish. It happens to everyone, it is sad, but it is also a chance to learn about grief, compassion, and love. Kids are smart and learning about death at an early age helps with concepts of kindness and empathy.
Prudent-Soil6116@reddit
Yes! 🙌🏼 It doesn’t make death any easier, but it creates less anxiety around it.
throwaway1102293384@reddit
Watched all of them whenever they were on but never saw California Dreams
nuggetbailey@reddit
Sigh... I loved captain planet, I was an earth keeper as a child with so much hope. I thought I could save the planet by the reduce/reuse/recycle program. In my 20s I was the tree hugging hippy vegetarian totally idealistic about the world and equal rights for woman. Now I'm a depressed, perimenopausal, agitated vegetarian who is TIRED... tired of people not giving a shit about the planet, and tired of rampant misogyny in every facet of my life.
marbotty@reddit
Do I get my xennial card revoked if I only watched Hey Dude?
Dry-Start1914@reddit
Wasn't too many episodes but when I was little I loved Belle & Sebastian on Nick ! I remember David the Gnome was voiced by the happy days guy and I still sing the Captain Planet song !!
DeliciousSplit0@reddit
82ndGameHead@reddit
My first introduction to Slime
I love this show. Canada's pride.
Meggos1022@reddit
This show made me appreciate absurdist humor!
RadBren13@reddit
I loved The Noozles!
eggs_erroneous@reddit
🎵Surf dudes with attitudes...🎶
Mudcreek47@reddit
I have no memory of Noozles and David the Gnome, although he looks familiar! :)
I remember watching the Mr. T animated series and Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and the Incredible Hulk Cartoon. Also all the usual suspects everyone remembers: Muppet Babies, Smurfs, Snorks, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Flintsones.
Gosh the feeling of waking up early on a Saturday to flip channels and watch cartoons all morning!
Watched Batman: TAS & Animaniacs after getting home from high school.
idkmybffjill03@reddit
The only thing I could ever remember was the koala/eucalyptus… nobody knew what I was talking about. I have been trying to remember this show forever. Thank you 🙏
InstancePleasant2418@reddit
I loved the noozles. But does anyone else remember Grimm’s Fairy Tales?? It was a Japanese animated series that featured a different fairy tale in each episode. Aired on Nickelodeon in the mid-late 80’s. Just looked it up, you can stream on Prime. The intro brought me right back 🥲.

someone needs to subscribe to the Poparena channel on youtube.
rocket_racoon180@reddit
How about this guy?
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah. I remember watching his movie too. I actually hated Pee-wee Herman, but we didn’t have the choices we have today lol. You watch what was on and that was it. I never watched Bill Nye the science guy, but I do enjoy him on social media as an adult.
AtmosphereInside2521@reddit
Oh man. Hey Dude. Core memory and boyhood crushes unlocked.
iiooiooi@reddit
It's a little wild and a little strange.....
MadLove82@reddit
Wowww… I have a handful of vague memories of the Noozles but had no idea what it was called, and no one ever knows what I’m talking about when I describe it - partly because I don’t remember much! This is blowing my mind.
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
Yeah I had to look it up. It was one of my favorite shows but I was on the younger side and probably didn’t know how to figure out what time it was on lol.
owlcityy@reddit
I watched all of these!!
Pure-Mycologist193@reddit
See, if our generation had proper boomer wealth, we could fund the restoration of "David the Gnome", "Noozles", and "Little Koala" on bluray for our kids (and us!) to enjoy. YouTube is fine, but the low resolution is rough.
PlasticFabtastic@reddit
I still have the Hey Dude themesong in my heart. Such a great tune. I wish they had recorded a longer version.
tinglep@reddit
Fuck David the Gnome. They all died on the last episode. I still can’t get over that shit
Invidiana@reddit
jigilous@reddit
Yes!!! We named our dog Iggy after Iggy the Iguana!!
Invidiana@reddit
My favorite character!
ImmaDrainOnSociety@reddit
Any Canadian of this period would remember The Raccoons. The theme song had no right to go that hard.
GaetanDugas@reddit
Maya The Bee was always one no one else remembers
LogensTenthFinger@reddit
Every single one of these is a banger.
Just missing:
Ahhhhhhh! Real Monsters!
Rocko's Modern Life
Salute Your Shorts
Secrets of the Hidden Temple
Double Dare
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Tumbleweed-Taylor@reddit
Ren and Stimpy Fraggle Rock
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
I was always afraid of the dark lol and that show was just enough for me. Reminds me of those books, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Modem_Handshake@reddit
I think AYAOTD came on late on Fridays when I was growing up and I loved being freaked out by that but it was ok bc In Living Color was probably up next on another channel.
One of my little girls found my 3-pack of Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark last Halloween and we were enjoying reading a few of them but Stephen Gammell’s illustrations are still terrifying to me as an adult
Modem_Handshake@reddit
Rocko’s Modern Life WAS SO GOOD!!
sidneyjoy@reddit
Did you watch Fred Penner’s corner? It came on after David the gnome where I lived.
-threefeetoffun@reddit
David the gnome was a home sick staple. Also maya the bee.
California Dreams taught me righty tighty lefty loosey.
clutzycook@reddit
Yes! Me too!
-threefeetoffun@reddit
I'll always remember it. The girl in the class thought the teacher was being sexist as she was the only girl in the class. No, it's just how it's remembered.
nola_mike@reddit
The first 3 were part of the Nick Jr lineup in the early 90s.
Invisi-cat@reddit
Noozles was my first dubbed anime, watched it on nick jr when I was 4
Kain347@reddit

Eureeka's Castle was my jam!
wlea@reddit
I still have two of the Pizza Hut kids meal puppets from that show: Magellan and Eureka
My husband, who isn't from the States, keeps wanting to give them away when we clean the kids' rooms but I'm holding strong. Along with a Fraggles 3 wheeled car from McDonald's.
_Maxxx1mus_@reddit
It's picnic time!
Electrical-Weird-137@reddit
Noozles and David the Gmome! Hell yeah
Inevitable_Can8020@reddit
I watched all of those shows🥹Anyone remember Maya the Bee?
twistedcreature07@reddit
I don't remember a lot of it but specifically remember ones episode where she meets a worm who's afraid the farmer is going to kill him like the rest of the garden pests so they're running and hiding. But the worm gets caught in the end and the farmer was like, "oh a worm!" And let him go saying something like "go back to help out my soil, little buddy!" And I learned the things I had been digging up and sticking hooks thru for fishing actually enriched a garden's soil by breaking down rotten plants or whatever, so I stopped digging for them cuz I liked helping my dad with his garden.
spiniton85@reddit
Oh wow. I forgot all about the Noozles.
Fun fact - The set from Hey Dude is still partly standing in Tucson, even though it's a bit decrepit. I come from there and went recently to visit an old friend and we went to see it. That was fun - it was one of my favorites, alongside Salute Your Shorts.
BlueDotNE@reddit
Loved Hey Dude! I would have killed to work there!
Squish_Miss@reddit
I forgot about David the Gnome and Eureeka's Castle! I watched Captain Planet and Hey Dude.
Whatchab@reddit
All these 10/10 except I've never seen Bobby's World. But c'mon Hey Dude is greatest for Brad and that intro song!
Tall-Introduction414@reddit
I'm pretty sure Christine Taylor was the only one who continued to have a career after Hey Dude.
I remember once seeing a movie where Mr Ernst played a creepy bad guy. Very disturbing.
Individual-Cry9636@reddit
Never heard of the Noozle. Big fan of all the others except California Dreams. I know it’s rose tinted glasses, but everything felt so much better back then. This being 40 thing is really bothering me lol
Darkhaven@reddit
The majority of these I've watched with my sibs, especially my baby sister. We still talk about Doug and Bobby's World, but I'm about to send her the Noozles intro. She was super young when it was on, I'm dying to know if it's a nostalgia hit for her.
I have never seen nor heard of the last one. It looks like a definite skip, honestly.
JohnBrine@reddit
I only David the Gnome from posts like this one.
CokBlockinWinger@reddit
I watched the entirety of David the Gnome with my wife and kids during Covid lockdowns. One episode a night before bedtime.
That final episode had us all bawling. Was not expecting that.
GrindinWulf@reddit
Loved me some Noozles and David the Gnome!!!! I would have been about 5 or 6 when I used to watch it on Nick. I remember the Noozles tryna get back to their land. I vaguely recall a hot air balloon and the frilled lizard that would run on two legs. I think he was orange. I don’t think that show ever ended but on Reddit a few weeks ago, I saw a post about David the Gnome that almost brought me to tears.
utti@reddit
I instantly heard the title song from California Dreams when I got to that slide. Surf dudes with attitude...
scaryclown148@reddit
Salute your shorts?!
Spare-Good-5372@reddit
I watched every one of these. Still have a crush on Christine Taylor.
Imnotonthelist@reddit
Was there another show with a koala bear, or am I delusional?
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
There was but i don’t think i watched that one
EmperorGrinnar@reddit
I watched all of these except the last one.
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
The last one was later and wasn’t on very long. Tried to be saved by the bell meets 90210 but it’s wasn’t great. They were all in a band
Large-Inspection-487@reddit
I watched David the Gnome when I stayed home sick!
Ashamed_Response_168@reddit (OP)
Yeah I remember it being on at like 11 am
Professor_Hala@reddit
Eureka's Castle's Halloween episode scared me senseless as a kid. Which makes sense, because R.L. Stine, the author of Goosebumps, was the character designer and head writer for the show.
Dont-tell_Frank@reddit
I probably think about David the Gnome at least once a week

David the Gnome. Damn. Nice.

Xdaz1019@reddit
Aside from California. That was my whole childhood right there
Grammarhead-Shark@reddit
Some shows I watched that I rarely find other people that remember them in real life (thank goodness for Reddit and folks with good memories!) include:
Vicky the Viking
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (The 1986 Japanese series based off four books in the series)
Belle and Sebastian (People remember the band more then the cartoon!)
Star Blazers
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
THE NOOZLES!!! Omg I’ve sang that stupid theme song my entire life and I couldn’t remember what the name of that show was. I remember it being my first Anime (or whatever the correct animation is) followed by Speed Racer. But this one I remember so much better.
TheRoadkillRapunzel@reddit
I watched all of those except California Dreaming.
Man, I loved being home sick from school and watching Eureeka’s Castle, Maya the Bee, David the Gnome, Noozles, The Little Koala, and that story hour show that always had a different story.
before-the-fall@reddit
Papa Beaver’s Story Time?
clutzycook@reddit
I remember, or at least vaguely recall the first three. They were all cable TV shows so I would have only seen them at a babysitter's house in the summer.
4-6 I remember quite well since they were on "regular TV."
I know of Hey Dude, but never saw it
California Dreams was another Saturday morning network TV staple in our house.
slyseekr@reddit
Noozles made 10 y/o me believe that a magical portal to another dimension existed at the top of Ayer's Rock (Uluru).
glitzkrieger@reddit
Omg is David the Gnome that cartoon where they sleep in cabinets? Like, I got obsessed with the idea of sleeping in small spaces watching that! I was always in boxes, lol.

David the Gnome was that show that everyone loves, but no one would admit to watching as a kid….

I don’t remember the Noozles, but I remember The Adventures of the Little Koala. Roobear was the main character. Probably the earliest crush I ever had, if you could even call it that, was the Moon Goddess in one particular episode. I think she was a rabbit. I’d melt whenever that episode came on. 😍

🎵 David the gnooooooooooooooooooooooome 🎵
taleofbenji@reddit
LMAO The Noozles was something my little sister watched. So my friend and I made up a game on the basketball court called the Noozles, although the details escape me now.
