What kind of footwear?

I’m starting Eastern Regional next week and wondering what kind of footwear I should get? I want to look professional. I’ll be hauling dry van. What recommendations do you have?

Comfortable closed toed shoes for most occasions. I keep a pair of steel toed boots in the truck for when the the weather is shitty and the occasional place that requires them...

Seriously, it needs to coordinate with your tractor.
White Volvo = Leather sandals
International = Crocs
Pete 379 or KW W9 = Cowboy boots
Older Freightliner Coronado or 1 stack Mack = Steel toe work boots
Cascadia = Tennis shoes

I've had a pair of 8" Thorogoods for about six months now. Not going back to sneakers, not even in the higher temperatures. Most comfortable footwear I've had. Even on the 14 hr days my feet are never sore. They run kind of narrow, so try on the wide ones too. Also, get the lace up moc-toe style - it's a much classier look.

Warehouse boots/shoes with a safety toe. That will cover 99% of places that are going to require a safety boot.
If you're going into chemical or Hazmat, you may have to get a 6-in boot.
I got driving footwear, and I have work footwear. The two aren't interchangeable unless it's for a short haul.

Flip flops if you want to fit in, crocs if you are a professional

I'd recommend Oofos slides. They look very professional and most shippers won't give you to trouble about them.
You don't have to wear socks with them so no need to wash them in the sink!

I literally haul dryvan in the eastern 38 for Schneider and even though I’m supposed to wear slip resistant soles. I said fuck that, I wear my barefoot shoes for ultra comfiness. I haven’t been talked to about it by anyone. Wear whatever is comfy and is obviously not flip flops.

Nice pair of Birkenstocks should have you covered.

Closed toe shoes are the bare minimum while at shippers and receivers. Ankle height boots would also be a step above. The most important thing is not smell and be relatively clean, including your clothes. Pay attention to signs and wear the pipe the site requires. That goes a long way to smoothing the process. Carry a hard hat because some places require them. They will have loaners, but I would be wary of wearing a loaner.

If you do decide to go with the shared hard hat: have a few bandannas

Closed toe shoes. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something comfortable like cross trainers. I'd definitely have boots on hand for snowy/muddy places, but it's not necessary for everyday.

Flip flops with no socks. Don't wash or moisturize for at least a month to maximize ash and crustiness

A nice set of flip flops. Slides, not toe thongs. Jk, I keep work boots in my truck but 99% of the time I'm wearing a pair of best up Air Force 1's. So comfy.
