LaGuardia Controller Laughing at Jazz (Air Canada) Pilots on Frequency
Posted by chasseur_de_cols@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 248 comments
The latest VASaviation ATC video has me cringing.
Is this behaviour typical or considered normal at LGA or anywhere in the US? What happened to professional, clear, concise communication?
The fact that two Jazz pilots were killed at LGA just three weeks ago makes this even worse in my mind.
the_grand_apartment@reddit
This shouldn't be happening at 3000 feet IMO
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
Never been to New York?
the_grand_apartment@reddit
Just because it's common doesn't mean it should be normalized, especially in consideration of the mega fuck-ups that have occured over there the past couple years. Y'all can't keep cowboying this shit forever just because "it's New York".
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
Pilot controller banter is normal everywhere. I’m not saying that what happened here is appropriate given circumstances but banter isn’t letting people killed. Understaffing is.
skippitypapps@reddit
Show me the part of the FAA or ICAO regulations that authorizes "banter".
I'd like to know what the proper phraseology is for bantering so I can be better prepared for my next flight to the united states.
We don't go to work to make jokes and to sound cool on the radio. We go to move people or cargo safely and to not kill anyone whole doing it. Smarten up and have some fucking respect for what's at stake.

Holy shit you are far and above the dumbest person ive encountered online this year. And thats a tall title. Hope you stay far away from aircraft

P33L3D@reddit
I heard it's the median that adjusts, I'm getting smarter every second! Just need to remember breathing, that's hard though.
skippitypapps@reddit
Yes, being a professional is such a foreign concept to an american that I must not be a real person 👍
P33L3D@reddit
That's exactly what an AI would say.
Facts_pls@reddit
I think if I created an agent to sound like a dumb edgy teenager, they would say exactly what you said.
Seriously, you're speech pattern, comebacks, points of argument - all reek of stereotypical 12 year old edgy teen. I find it hard to believe that you aren't a bot.
Ok_Recording81@reddit
Im a former flight attendant. I had a captain who would talk in his Rodney dangerfield accent with atc. It was hilarous.
the_grand_apartment@reddit
Being distracted while understaffed is
skippitypapps@reddit
Safety regulations don't apply to New York or what?
The question was rhetorical, by the way. We know they don't apply there, given they just killed two of our pilots by ignoring proper procedures and safety protocols.
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
Controllers banter. It’s normal. It’s sometimes a bit rude in New York approach. Are you a pilot?
skippitypapps@reddit
Normal?
Go to any other country on Earth and see if you encounter this sort of unprofessionalism and complete disregard for safety.
You won't, because it's decidedly not normal.
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
What’s going on in this recording probably not, but casual talk absolutely is. Do you even fly or what?
AGEdude@reddit
Just a reminder that this isn't a pilot subreddit. Non-pilots are welcome here, so there's no need for gatekeeping.
And you're right, what is happening in this recording is not normal, and it isn't mere 'casual talk'. There is room for some levity on comms, like an informal "hello" "please" "thank you" or "good day" when radio traffic isn't too congested.
Joking around is dangerous and unprofessional.
I_Am_Kevin_Federline@reddit
Just doubling down on being dumb huh?
NoFewSatan@reddit
Note: stay away from New York
TigerIll6480@reddit
Careful, or you’ll get zapped for saying that.
skippitypapps@reddit
The truth isn't welcome in this sub, or what?
TigerIll6480@reddit
I got a week ban for saying something similar.
Ok_Suggestion_6092@reddit
If pilots can’t crack jokes below 10K ATC should be sterile at any given time I feel like.
VanillaHighlights@reddit
This is what happens when you get the Nepo baby quality hires that came along with DOGE.
Shit stack is a country is falling apart and trolling the rest of the world. Russian wannabes, Jesus christ.
fijidlidi@reddit
He didn't know that Canada was also in the Americas? Lol
micropIasticsenj0yer@reddit
So when this controller inevitably kills a couple hundred people are we supposed to blame everything but the controller again? Is that how it works?
Blue_foot@reddit
Weird time to bring up US superiority when LGA Tower is only a few weeks past killing 2 Air Canada pilots.
flywithstephen@reddit
Know who isn’t having serious accidents almost annually? Canada.
NasaSpaceHops@reddit
Know who has a fraction of the traffic and still has many close calls that don't make the news?
oliviashrewtonbong@reddit
London has about 1 million flights annually compared to NYC 1.1 million, Heathrow in particular is insanely congested given that night flights are banned. ATC there is professional and proceeds entirely without issue (perhaps not surprising given it was invented there)
The US and particularly NYC needs to do a lot better, this sub and plenty of other of aviation forums have been predicting these sad disasters for many years now.
flywithstephen@reddit
You know that if you “can’t cope” with the volume of traffic there are things you can do to, you know, stop airliners hitting helicopters and fire trucks?
VanillaTortilla@reddit
We're still on about the tower taking all the blame? How tiring.
unclefire@reddit
it's a contributing factor. Avoiding people dying in preventable accidents isn't tiring.
VanillaTortilla@reddit
What's tiring is that everyone is still dog piling on the tower staff and there's people still out there trying their damndest not to out any blame on the truck.
unclefire@reddit
Like I said it was a contributing factor. Tower cleared trucks to cause. It’s not the ONLY factor. Trucks should have checked assuming they could see the plane. Were the rw lights red? Trucks maybe should have transponders Existing emergency played a role in everything going on Was there really two controllers?
The holes in the Swiss cheese lined up.
Blue_foot@reddit
Trucks and planes on different frequencies was also a hole.
YYZYYC@reddit
How is that relevant to this incident?
VanillaTortilla@reddit
It's not, it's relevant to the comment replied to. Where everyone is still blaming the tower and not the truck.
OracleofFl@reddit
The Jazz pilot should have said, "Why? I like Canada better because our controllers don't clear fire trucks onto active runways and kill people." That would have shut him right up.
AGEdude@reddit
I think their "no comment" response was the only good option.
LordOfCinderGwyn@reddit
Yes but ATC/pilot is a cooperative relationship and people need to get things done.
OracleofFl@reddit
I am just being snarky. The controller was out of line and the pilots were correct not to escalated the stupidity.
skippitypapps@reddit
Who wants to live in Canada?
Air traffic controllers who enjoy getting regular paycheques because their government hasn't shut down for the 10th time this year.
Air traffic controllers who don't have to work a mandatory 6 days a week, every week, for the rest of their miserable lives.
Air traffic controllers who actually enjoy being respected by pilots from other countries.
Eat shit, eh.
Weak_Tangerine_6316@reddit
Small point of clarification: Nav Canada operates as a private not for profit. Even if the government shutdown and somehow government workers stopped getting paid, Canadian controllers would still get paid. Culture and work-life balance generally seems much better for controllers in Canada vs. US.
schwanerhill@reddit
Also, a government shutdown isn’t really a thing here anyway, since a budget is a confidence vote so failure to pass it leads to elections — with the existing budget continuing.
skippitypapps@reddit
Yes, I'm sorry I didn't mean to imply it can happen here. But my main point is that Canadian controllers don't have to worry about getting paid for the work they do.
QueenMotherOfSneezes@reddit
Yup. They're not on the Phoenix payroll system!
One of their unions also just got a good-sized raise for their workers.
schwanerhill@reddit
You didn’t imply that. I was amplifying/adding. I agree.
skippitypapps@reddit
Yes, I should have been clearer on that.
But my point is, Canadian controllers don't have to worry about whether their paycheques will stop.
american controllers do.
TheGreatestOrator@reddit
Canadian ATC make significantly less
Temporary-Fix9578@reddit
You don’t think American ATC’s reputation is slipping? It definitely is. They’re a regular part of threat briefings these days
Sufficient_Cake_4845@reddit
Threat briefings? Genuinely curious if Canadian pilots view US airspace differently now, in terms of risk?
Temporary-Fix9578@reddit
Absolutely. There’s a very distinct shift when you cross the border. I would never assert that any US controllers are doing anything but their best. They’re all professionals, but it’s clear that they’re overworked, the airspace is bursting at the seams, and the technology is barely holding on. Take the outages at N90 for example. The prospect of losing comms with ATC while being vectored in the New York terminal airspace was a very real threat to safety. It happened numerous times in a few weeks.
YYZYYC@reddit
Probably not since they actually get paid year round without govt shutdowns
PMmeyourUntappdscore@reddit
Americans really are shitbags. You deserve what you created. The rot is deep.

Kind of interesting how that works, canadian pilots would give their left nut to be able to work for a US airline.

We’d rather just get paid somewhere close to what they get paid. Right now I’m looking at finally getting paid half of a what a first year FO at Delta gets paid as an FO in Canada entering year 2.
YYZYYC@reddit
Umm no they would not.
deiprep@reddit
But you won’t be able to live the American dream!!

RCdnDragoon@reddit
Also, props for spelling paycheques properly
Latitude57@reddit
My answer would have been: “ Canada and there’s no comparison “
The Jazz pilots were very professional in not engaging with this controller. He should be suspended
AlphaIOmega@reddit
This is the kind of dude who tells fucked up jokes and then gets mad when no one laughs.
Big loser energy.
Apprehensive_Cost937@reddit
US controllers being extremely unprofessional, water is wet, more news at 11.
railker@reddit
Yeah I love the recordings where the pilots handling an emergency and trying to run their checklists have to repeat information to 3-4 different controllers over and over again.
That and the whole weird dance around avoiding saying the word 'Mayday' over the radio that seems to be popular.
tailwheel307@reddit
That one’s a pet peeve of mine, there’s an international standard phrase that makes you the most important airplane in the sky… and the country with the most planes per square inch turns it from one word into four words that are easy to misinterpret or step on.
There could be two planes with both engines on fire and we will hear “United 123 is declaring an emergency, both engine are on fire” and the other one that will be “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, Speedbird 123 dual engine fire” nobody cares what United is telling the controller because they didn’t start with an emergency message, but you can damn well bet that on my flight deck every pilot is silent and listening to what Speedbird needs to return to earth safely and how it might affect us.
This isn’t a new phenomena, and I’ve had students that I’ve beat this lesson into: When you say “Mayday” over the radio, you are the single most important person in the sky at that exact moment and everyone you talk to after that point is obligated to move heaven and earth to assist you in returning to earth safely.
When you say “we are declaring an emergency” must not be that urgent if you can use so many words.
railker@reddit
Even if we're doing engine runs on the ground as maintenance and have an issue like a fire, we're not even airborne but that's still supposed to be our first words on the radio.
There's a part of me that wonders if it's an influence of ambulance culture in the US, you don't even want to say the word ambulance and risk having one show up and having to pay for it so you just call an Uber instead. What that video floating around of a dude who concussed himself crashing his bike and forgot where he was but someone mentioned ambulance and suddenly he was VERY coherent about NO, NO AMBULANCE.
latedescent@reddit
What extensive experience allows you to make that comment?
skippitypapps@reddit
Encountering said unprofessionalism on literally every single flight we're forced to do to the us? Are you serious with that question?
Apprehensive_Cost937@reddit
Friends who regularly fly into USA, and pretty much all agree US has one of the least professional ATC in the developed world.
The videos like this one just confirm it.
skippitypapps@reddit
Hey to be fair, their pilots are also extremely unprofessional.
(Meow)
noupdoots4u@reddit
No wonders these fuckin retards are crashing so many planes. AMERICA CANT STOP WINNING.
rhineauto@reddit
What an awkward attempt at conversation
That70sShop@reddit
That's exactly how I saw it. A little forced. There was an elephant in the room and he chose friendly teasing as a defense mechanism.
Not one bit of this sounded like anything but an attempt to connect on a human level, if awkwardly.
rhineauto@reddit
What’s the elephant in the room? This is a daily flight. And AC Express has a ton of other daily flights into LGA, it’s not like it’s some rare occurrence for them to be going there
Dependent-Zebra-4357@reddit
This is the elephant in the room. Same airport, same airline. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Canada_Express_Flight_8646
rhineauto@reddit
As I said:
Dependent-Zebra-4357@reddit
You don’t think a crash at the same airport involving the same airline, just weeks prior counts? What’s the timeline for you when it comes to showing a little respect to people who just lost co-workers?
rhineauto@reddit
Does this guy say the same thing to the dozen other AC Express flights that land at LGA every single day? Also how is it respect? He just sounds like a knob.
Dependent-Zebra-4357@reddit
I have no idea what he’s saying to other flights, I’m just saying that given the situation (the recent crash involving the same airline and the same airport) that it’s unprofessional and disrespectful to the pilots just lost two colleagues.
Irrelevance351@reddit
I got quite a bit of second-hand embarrassment watching this whole exchange.
quarterlifecrisis49@reddit
Didn't expect to see Thekkummoottil here!
piercinghousekeeping@reddit
That was cringe to listen to. Very unprofessional.
PengPenguin888@reddit
LGA/JFK/EWR are definitely a special breed of ATC.
GroundedGerbil@reddit
Friendly banter is normal in the US, if it’s not crazy busy. This is just cringeworthy for all the reasons already mentioned.
Ruepic@reddit
Banter is reciprocal, this is not banter, this is the controller being a knob and the pilots staying professional.
GroundedGerbil@reddit
Why the 13 downvotes? Fucking Reddit. This is exactly what i said- Friendly banter is normal and this is not that. Either y’all are fucking stupid or don’t comprehend the English language.
melpec@reddit
All the pilots hearing this knowing their lives are litteraly in the hands of this idiot.
Go_Loud762@reddit
Yeah, it was a bit cringy, but the controller didn't laugh at anyone. That was Jazz laughing at the Tim Horton comment.
The dude was just trying to have fun and he got a little too into it.
YYZYYC@reddit
How about make sure the runway is clear
Go_Loud762@reddit
Both ideas are good, but that doesn't change the fact that the laughter came from the Jazz crew, not ATC.
YYZYYC@reddit
Awkward laughter in the face of embarrassing cringe offensive comments from atc
Go_Loud762@reddit
I agree.
The point I'm making is that the controller was trying too hard and that OP's headline is wrong.
YYZYYC@reddit
Trying too hard to be offensive ?
Go_Loud762@reddit
To be funny.
YYZYYC@reddit
In what world is what he said funny?
Go_Loud762@reddit
Read it again.
Trying to be funny. I think we all agree he wasn't funny.
YYZYYC@reddit
Read me again, he was not trying to be funny. He was trying to be a dick
pie_eating_contest@reddit
Americans yelling freedom lol. That and saying freedom units..land of the free... All that. Maybe at one point that was true. But not anymore. It's all cringe now. Look at yourself.
upbeatelk2622@reddit
Bad take. Given some of what's happened in Canada, it's still a very apropos piece of sarcasm.

Jhey45@reddit
This guy sounds unbearable to work with tbh
bigolgape@reddit
That is so embarassing. And he keeps trying to get the other pilots in on it over and over when they don't respond.
jello_sweaters@reddit
"LaGuardia Tower, you just worry about keeping trucks off the runway, we can talk about politics later."
But seriously, of all the airports in the world to NOT screw around right now - particularly with the airline whose pilots just died on your tarmac.
Roadgoddess@reddit
Yeah, that was my take as well. Like seriously two of their pilots just died and they’re making comments like this.
Eltors0@reddit
This was not the tower but whomever was working the LGA sector at N90. It still was in extremely poor taste and unbecoming.
grackychan@reddit
Weird PA people strike again
InsideOfYourMind@reddit
You got downvoted but being from PA originally and escaped, this 1000%
Educational_Clothes2@reddit
I think it’s being blown abit out of proportion, but I don’t hear controllers saying welcome to America and “freedom” to all the international flights entering US airspace through NYC. That being said, Canadian and US relations are kind of like big and little brother. We are kind of similar and come from the same values so we feel like we can razz each other since we have similar humour. Maybe the controller feels other countries would be too uptight or not understand the joke. Definitely recent event and politics have put a strain on the relationship so tensions are a bit high. We’ll get back to play fighting with our brother again. Hope it’s sooner than later.
Philly514@reddit
You are the crackheads with guns that live below us, we are not related.
mMaple_syrup@reddit
Here is a pro tip: people sharing a language does not guarantee they like the same humour.
If your joke is not well received, then don't push it further. When the pilot said "no comment" that was a good sign to shut it and not come back to that topic. It doesn't matter how you feel, if they don't have the same mindset, then they probably won't appreciate 'jokes' that poke fun at them. The ATC could have ended it on the Tim Hortons comment (which was fine actually), but instead he gets more cringey as it goes on.
Educational_Clothes2@reddit
The last part was a terrible continuation and the controller was trying to save face. No one cared to respond. You can’t tell me that Americans & Canadians don’t share the same humour as most comedy shows, animation and movies that we laugh at are American. Americans also love Trailer Park Boys and Letterkenny. Not every is going to take offense to it and obviously the Jazz crew was more professional and carried on. If we get offended every time they say something about Canada they win as we continue to have discussions about how horrible their words were.
mMaple_syrup@reddit
You totally misread my comment… Anyways, scripted TV performances are not comparable to an ATC guy yapping when dudes are trying to land their plane. Real life humour is more variable and you have to pay attention to social cues to avoid looking dumb or cringe.
foxfoxfoxfoxfoxes@reddit
cringe as fuck comment. we are not brothers.
DevilsPumpkinPiety@reddit

FrozenDickuri@reddit

Philly514@reddit

That70sShop@reddit
I don't think a lot of people understand dark humor (which this wasn't) as a common occurrence at EMS incidents, ERs, and morgue.
Yes, Air Canada is grieving. So is LaGuardia, especially the ATC, which caused that tragedy.
I heard friendly banter where they were pretending the recent events aren't hanging heavy in the air. Whistling past the graveyard. Banter as a bridge to camaraderie.
Ruepic@reddit
There’s that fucking word again, banter, why is everyone calling this shit banter when the conversation was one sided. Pilots stayed professional, controller made a fool out of himself.
YYZYYC@reddit
And what is your point then if you admit this wasn’t dark humour?
WSJ_pilot@reddit
Only issue is that this convo is happening at 3000, in a sterile cockpit environment. Otherwise, this feels like standard banter.
Ruepic@reddit
Not banter, it was a one sided conversation.
wrongwayup@reddit
Come on, it's just La Guardia, what could possibly happen
mMaple_syrup@reddit
If he stopped after the Tim Hortons joke, I would give it a pass. Everything after that was cringe.
WSJ_pilot@reddit
Ngl - I didn’t listen to the full thing ( my bad). But anything upto and including the tims joke was fine IMO
Latitude57@reddit
That is not standard by any mean. It is extremely unprofessional and I wonder if that controller was sober or not.
FrozenDickuri@reddit
If this is standard for you, yall are really not aware of how embarrassing you are to engage with.
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
That’s not unusual
WSJ_pilot@reddit
Banter with atc is usual until you bent metal on landing and now professional standards reviews / investigates…
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
Yeah the timing is bananas
Mekroval@reddit
I'm not a pilot, but aren't people on frequency required to maintain some kind of radio discipline? Especially controllers? I'm wondering if this controller, in addition to being cringe and tasteless af, is also violating FAA or FCC rules.
barkingcat@reddit
Not really
Unless you are in the military there are no rules like that.
It would be impossible to enforce, maybe like the equivalent of those "call this number if I'm driving badly" stickers on the back of tractor trailer trucks?
tailwheel307@reddit
In civilized Air Navigation Service Providers(ANSP) there are regular audits of controller phraseology and compliance with the standards required of them. In functioning ANSP’s those audits can lead to investigations, retraining, or discipline as required to ensure the standard is maintained at all times.
Mekroval@reddit
Thanks! That makes sense. I hope the controller did get reported to someone higher up, so that he at least gets a talking to.
SnooHesitations1020@reddit
Extremely unprofessional.
pixeltackle@reddit
Is "welcome to America" a thing said regularly for an inbound flight from Canada? Seems weird
ywgflyer@reddit
15 years flying in/out of the US (I'm Canadian) and this is the first time I have ever heard this. This guy was just being a major penis wrinkle and needs to get sent to charm school over this shit, if not sent to the curb entirely. Unbelievable. This is making the rounds at AC by the way and people are getting fired up over it.
sunsetair@reddit
CAN a pilot ask a controller to be ready to write down a phone number and say when ready?
Lensatic_wilkinson@reddit
I believe they can request a timestamp for the interaction to later call that sector's supervisor so that said supervisor can listen back to that moment on the tapes.
ywgflyer@reddit
There is at least one video on Youtube where a pilot does this, tells the controller "give me the number, I would love to talk to you with your supervisor listening in". Not sure if the conversation ever took place, though.
alfienoakes@reddit
Aer Lingus? “My boss can talk to your boss.”
Apprehensive_Cost937@reddit
That's the mature, professional, modern approach to safety, not that phone number crap.
TheCygnusWall@reddit
I think I remember one that happened recently where a helo pilot wanted to call the tower after responding to a CA with a plane and the tower said they weren't close or something.
Temporary-Fix9578@reddit
I’ve had a captain demand the tower number in DC so he could speak with them. It’s not the same as a deviation from ATC, but with our SMS systems we could certainly ask them to pull the tapes, file a report and have our corporate safety people take it from there
wrongwayup@reddit
As they should be. It wasn't the controllers lined up in the rain to pay respects

chasseur_de_cols@reddit (OP)
Considering AC alone has like 15 - 20 daily flights into all three NYC airports, it's a little weird.
The yelling of "freeeeedumb!" was way more cringy however.
evissimus@reddit
Yeah, the freedom for fire trucks to cross the active runway.
How insensitive. And how stupid when they’re about to land, changing radio frequency, etc…
It felt like he was expecting the other pilots to chime in and… crickets.
wrongwayup@reddit
It's 20/day into LGA alone!
pixeltackle@reddit
I had to dip out before that point. Those controllers were genuinely annoying.
lingeringneutrophil@reddit
I think it was the first international flight that he had in a while, and they don’t get so many at LGA. So I dont necessarily blame him for that part.
The Tim Horton thing seems a bit more unnecessary.
wrongwayup@reddit
Try again. Air Canada flies 20/day into LGA, all but three of them Jazz.
unclefire@reddit
For clarification, this is TRACON, not tower. That aside, this controller is an asshole. There's plenty of traffic there already, all these guys are trying to focus on approach and landing, and this asshole is instigating some shit with the Canadian pilot. STFU and do your job dude.
upcoming_emperor@reddit
Do they have ICE agents running ATC now too?
NeedleGunMonkey@reddit
Guy needs an attitude realignment and learn to read the fucking room.
bravo zulu to the Jazz pilots not taking the bait tho that particular ATC could have been reminded given recent events perhaps he should take human factors a little more seriously
dhcr94@reddit
A stressful job either way, I don’t necessarily blame the guy for trying to be friendly and have some conversation.
Pazi_Snajper@reddit
This guy has been on previous VASAviation videos for generally well-intended, spirited exchanges.
No doubt that he both tried to bring levity but also managed to faceplant on this one.
YYZYYC@reddit
How the fuck is that levity? If a British air traffic controller made a joke about Americans being fat or Britain being a better place to live would that be funny ?

Nah he’s the first one to say “akuctallly is only air force 1/2 if the president is onboard”
BeatlesF1@reddit
"akuctallly is only air force 1/2 if the president/vice president is onboard"
Get it right man! /s
AlternativeEdge2725@reddit
High
The_Ashamed_Boys@reddit
I'm just gonna say I think that controller needs a physiological eval. It was so out of touch with reality that I think it warrants further investigation.
omg_wtf_not_now@reddit
AC pilot should have asked ATC if the runway is clear
That70sShop@reddit
That joke would have landed. "Can you confirm that big, beautiful runway is, in fact, clear?"
Slacker_75@reddit
No wonder they mistakingly told that fire truck to cross the runway. Bunch of fucking idiots watching over that place holy shit
DeliciousEconAviator@reddit
Perhaps he should focus on rebuilding trust with Jazz pilots?
zander9669@reddit
Just weeks after their superiority at LGA cost 2 air canada pilots their lives from their typical inexcusable american incompetence. Imagine being proud to be american.
Lionelhutz123@reddit
One more to never visit the U.S. or socialize with Americans in general
mojo604@reddit
Americans really never know when to shut up
mojo604@reddit
As if there weren’t enough shithead Americans already
Hfyvr1@reddit
One time flying into Bellingham I got “You’re in America now”. Not a fan of flying stateside as a Canadian.
jet-setting@reddit
If it was tower, BLI certainly used to have quite the reputation (and not in a good way). But they have since cleaned up substantially since then.
They’ll still get annoyed if you don’t have an appropriate chart onboard to identify a VFR reporting point, but that is at least pretty fair.
latedescent@reddit
Yea I'm embarassed by our airpsace system sometimes. I fly mainly inter-europe, and I always admire the professionalism in other countries. The second I coast into US territory the meows begin, amongst other stuff.
Ok-Shift5122@reddit
Very unprofessional.
Minute_Letterhead291@reddit
Dude's trying to be the next Kennedy Steve... He should try a comedy club
seyalaqua@reddit
Jackass needs realignment.
JazznBlues_lover@reddit
Just what the fuck was that ridiculous shit? Holy cow, just unprofessional as hell. His humor was not tasteful nor called for.
I hope at the very least, his supervisor will have a few words with him after the shift is over.
RishyRocketRider@reddit
Ofc it’s LGA, where else would it be 😭
CollegeStation17155@reddit
Shortages or not, somebody needs at least a suspension without pay.
CessnaBandit@reddit
This is USA ATC. I've had countless occurances of unprofessionalism from USA ATC. Most controllers there are excellent and I know they are overworked, but by far the only time I've experienced genuine asshole controllers has been in the USA.
This controller should lose their job.
Darius2112@reddit
So I know pilots have to adhere to the sterile cockpit rule below 10000 ft, but does that apply to ATC as well?
bianchiss@reddit
Small distinction/point of clarification
This was not an air traffic controller at LaGuardia Tower but a RADAR controller at the New York TRACON which is in Westbury NY.
yeahgoestheusername@reddit
That controller should be suspended. Not the time or place for him to share his political views. I’d say the same if he was complaining instead of praising.
Gods_Gift_To_ATC@reddit
This is cringe under the best of circumstances. Its really cringe post accident at LGA. Its horrifically in poor taste to do it to an aircraft of the same company as the aforementioned accident. But all together?
What an asshole.
Probably some new checkout that transferred from STL and thinks he's being funny.
kschischang@reddit
Insufferable.
Commercial_Draft6070@reddit
The famous blackbird tower story is a great example of professional humour and how to have a little fun with it
Pilot-Wrangler@reddit
But humour needs to be actually humorous, no?
Go_Loud762@reddit
It is in the ear of the beholder.
Latitude57@reddit
What an idiot…. The most unprofessional thing I’ve heard in a while…
rTpure@reddit
I expect more professionalism from a job that oversees the safety and lives of hundreds of people
TigerIll6480@reddit
You’re about 45 years too late for that in this country.
skippitypapps@reddit
Well, you've come to the wrong country for that, unfortunately.
Ok_Rabbit5158@reddit
I'm a sadist who listens to ATC on scanner in the workshop. Over 10 years of doing so, I have NEVER heard this sort of garbage and I hope they address this fast.
drs43821@reddit
And Jazz just had a horrible incident at LGA…
who_cares_bud@reddit
Did he yell "freedom"? What.
Brief_Hunt_6464@reddit
Also yelled SEE YA. Seems a little manic.
deiprep@reddit
Sounds like he needs a sobriety test tbh
Dontfeedhim@reddit
Probably a prior experience military controller. SEEYA’s were common for fighters. This dude’s a nerd regardless.
buttplugs4life4me@reddit
Probably the only ATC on shift and he just did some coke to get through the day
F0rbiddenD0nut@reddit
This would be embarrassing anywhere, but the fact that the incompetence of our air traffic system (not blaming the individual controller) got their pilots killed recently just makes this extra fucked up. Like forget putting your foot in your mouth, this dude shoved it in so deep it was coming out the other end.
flyingscotsman12@reddit
At that airport, with that airline no less.
GuttedFlower@reddit
What a weirdo.
toarunps@reddit
As Canadians, we really have "no comments".
