Nissan Says If New Silvia Happens, It Won't Be A "Spicy Sentra"

Looks like Espinosa has reiterated his desire to bring back the Silvia which would directly compete with a new Miata, GR86, and Celica and you know they they won’t botch it like the Prelude.
baodz@reddit
That means it’s going to be a spicy Sentra, doesn’t it. A Sentra with some extra red lines on it.
Repulsive-Club7866@reddit (OP)
They actually need a spicy Sentra perhaps a hatch to fight GR Corolla and Civic Type R alongside Silvia
LemonCurdd@reddit
1.5L turbo, 200hp, paired to a CVT with no option for a manual, somehow weighs 3500lbs, bumpers come unpainted since they’ll be torn off in 5k anyways
Take it or leave it
bakedvoltage@reddit
and then everyone online will yell at you if you criticize it
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
No CVT will take 200hp.
gfewfewc@reddit
uhhh wrx?
LemonCurdd@reddit
The Nissan rogue has a 1.5L turbo, 200hp and a CVT
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
It exists, but why is Nissan's reputation in the toilet?
kevinatfms@reddit
And weighs 3500+lbs. Not fast or fun.
cilantno@reddit
Yeah the main selling point for a Nissan rogue is “fast and fun” smh my head Nissan
Nightmare_Ives@reddit
I hate how close you'll probably be to the actual product.
Seeker80@reddit
Pulsar GTi-R ftw
aprtur@reddit
A new Sunny 306 Nismo? Yes please.
Anchor_Aways@reddit
Nismo Sentra when?
Hugh-Jass24@reddit
Nah bring back the SE-R spec V
cat_prophecy@reddit
Spec-V was actually really underrated.
Hayce@reddit
Truly one of the most fun cars I’ve ever owned. Two bad the engine blew up. Twice.
Hayce@reddit
Don’t be stupid! It will be a Kicks with red accents.
fiero-fire@reddit
The new CEO seems interested in actually making cars and cool cars at that so maybe it'll be more than just a spicy Sentra
Enough-Scientist1904@reddit
Yes, taking inspiration from honda and the prelude. A bold strategy
Carrisonfire@reddit
If that just means the body looks like a sentra I'm fine with it. If it means a FWD Silvia that's gonna be a hard pass.
Bonerchill@reddit
I just want a LHD conversion for the S15.
OreeOh@reddit
Silvia Cross
solo118@reddit
PLEASE
Jefftheflyingguy@reddit
Yeah and they’ll make ten of them which will be marked up $20k, we’ve seen and heard it all from you before Nissan
obviously8t@reddit
If they do make another Silvia I hope it follows in the footsteps of the S14 and S15 design wise. S14s and S15s were “pretty” and somewhat svelte stylistically, unlike the rest of their lineup which is bulky and brick like to put it mildly.
Agreeable-Ad2051@reddit
In this era of everything having a 4 cylinder turbo I could see a new Silvia actually working as a (hopefully) affordable enthusiast car. They might even be able to sell this one in Europe, unlike the Z.
In my wet car enthusiast dreams it would look like a modern s13 with seafoam green as a color option.
Poohs_Smart_Brother@reddit
that is now my wet car enthusiast dream too. a modern s13 (I'd prefer the Silvia look over the 180x) would be dope.
Nissan, I'd trade in my Charger for that. make it happen
YellowFogLights@reddit
I appreciate that, but I also wouldn’t poo-poo on a Sentra SE-R comeback
Seeker80@reddit
Yeah, they should've actually tried with that last Sentra Nismo. There was no reason to keep the MR16's output as stock. We'd already seen it with 197hp/215hp on the Nismo Jukes.
My ideal situation would be to see Nissan/Renault/Mitsubishi collaborate on a platform, then break off to finish it their own way. Of course there'd be the econobox base trims to make the money, but you'd also get:
That sort of arrangement could be a way to get us some nice hardware in a relatively economical way.
YellowFogLights@reddit
You’ve been prompted to head chef.
I liked the Nismo Juke, shame the AWD couldn’t keep up to the hotter engines.
Seeker80@reddit
Almost forgot, new recipe for you. If the 'econobox to hot hatch/sport compact' works, why not a sports car?
Maybe they can refine the FM platform and trim some weight. If not, then a new platform could be worthwhile if it's shared.
* Maybe a Renault flagship, or an Alpine sports car. Could work with a 4cyl or 6cyl.
* Nissan Z, obviously with a V6 & rwd. Might work for a 4cyl & rwd Silvia successor.
* Infiniti Coupe as well, V6 & rwd/awd.
* Mitsubishi Starion with a 4cyl & awd.
That gets us some sports cars in a way that won't have the accountants pulling their hair out.
Seeker80@reddit
What an awd it was, too. That rear torque vectoring setup was pretty unique. We're seeing some more of that now(ex: Ford Maverick Tremor & Lobo), but that was a huge deal back then.
I don't know who was cooking back then, but the Juke was far spicier than it needed to be. More standard power than a Mini Countryman S too? Then the Nismos came along too.
Just imagine if it had been better looking!
Pyrochazm@reddit
Yeah I would like a spicy Sentra.
SizeableFowl@reddit
Last spicey sentra was kinda me. 2017 or thereabouts, turbo 1.6 cvt or manual.
born_Racer11@reddit
Is Nissan still around? Cool.
Kuby@reddit
Spicy versa hatch?
StinkySoggyUnderwear@reddit
Hahahaha he said it won’t be a spicy Sentra, but he never said it won’t be a detuned Z. Which could be really good it was lighter too.
RiftHunter4@reddit
A detuned Z would he perfect TBH. When they originally announced the new Z, I thought they might go with a 4 cylinder like some older models.
thisisjustascreename@reddit
Hard to wrap a smaller car around a twin turbo DOHC v6 no matter how much you detune it.
AllTearGasNoBreaks@reddit
Easy, just remove a bank and a turbo. Everyone likes 3cyl turbos.
Seeker80@reddit
Hey, there's worse ideas out there. I was about to mention the existing 3cyl turbo, but it's still got the messy variable compression of the 2L. Too bad.
Now if there was something based on VR architecture though, game on. That could be good. They could even play with displacement. A 1.5L based on the VR30, a 1.75L based on the VR35...maybe even a special NISMO 1.9L that's using the displacement of the GT-R's VR38.
If they don't mind boosting to the ceiling like Toyota did with the G16E-GTS, it could be good.
They could get this into Renault/Mitsubishi hands too. How about an awd version of the Silvia as a new Starion?
carmeiser@reddit
I think a spicy Sentra has a market tbh. Like a return of the SE-R and SE-R nismo to compete with the Hyundai Ns, and Civic Si and type r. Take the 2.0 from the Silvia chucked in sideways, give it a manual with LSD, make it handle fun, and you have something there.
thetimechaser@reddit
Why is pretty much every comment in this thread Sentra lmao?
The biggest hurdle to this actually happening IMO is chassis options. Do they have something that would suit a 2+2 FR set up currently?
Modified FM (Z) platform? Or maybe B (Juke)?
I can’t imagine they’d invest a ton in brand new underpinnings on a low volume project like this. The GR86 / BRZs started as hacked up WRX chassis so the should follow that lead
daphatty@reddit
What engine would they even use for a Silvia though?
MrPterodactyl@reddit
Could they turn the platform backwards to make a rear engine two seater?
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
I still doubt how they able to have that Toyota level finical capacity to built many fun car models. We like more sports cars coming, but we admit that market is small in these days.
vhs29@reddit
Step 1) take the alpine a110 base
Step 2) make it cheaper and slightly more usable
Step 2a) leave room for the aftermarket to fix some of the cost cutting measures
Step 3) profit, hopefully
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
If Nissan A110 happens, Nissan wouldn't name it as Silvia. Nissan would name it as MID4.
Successful_Ad_9707@reddit
I applaud Nissan for not forgetting completely about the enthusiast. Just a shame they're in the shitter.
mini4x@reddit
It'll be a spicy Altima instead.
one_five_one@reddit
Heavy, CVT, hybrid, $50K, FWD
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
A spicy Sentra would be cool. If they had something that could undercut the Type r that would be great.
costafilh0@reddit
It's going to be sh1t either way.
Unless they are planing to make it a MT sports car.
/doubt
jse000@reddit
Yes, the Silvia, renowned for it's 6 cylinder engine.
neonxmoose99@reddit
With the amount of half finished rb25 swaps on r/silvia it might as well be
Lethean_Waves@reddit
Youre allowes to say shit on the internet
YellowFogLights@reddit
They’ve already got one of those m8
The Silvia would be a 4-cylinder like the OG
N0fe@reddit
Listen buddy, expecting me to know anything about the car I'm preemptively criticizing? Over the line, ok? I want to post a generic reply in a car subreddit that parrots what I read online, okayyyyyyy? Is it too much to ask to be able to wallow in negativity on Reddit, at least give me that, okuuurrrrrr? (/s)
kilertree@reddit
Honestly if it was just a rear wheel drive Sentra that would probably be the the most profitable thing.
Hugh-Jass24@reddit
Espinosa is cooking, let him cook!
FujitsuIndust@reddit
Feel like they should focus on geting their brand back on track before worrying about competing with the Miata, 86, etc.
YellowFogLights@reddit
They had a whole press event yesterday talking about how they plan to do exactly that. And fun was a big part of Nissan’s identity.
claspen@reddit
It's not going to happen, but I would accept a 4 cylinder Z as a new Silvia.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
Good news, it'll be a spicy Rogue instead.
Anchor_Aways@reddit
They made a Nismo Rogue but it's Japan only
YellowFogLights@reddit
Have you seen the NISMO Armada? I say let them cook up a NISMO Rogue. Why the hell not.
ImHealingU@reddit
i mean i didn’t expect the silvia to be a spicy sentra but a spicy sentra is still equally as good to me
k_dubious@reddit
Okay, spicy Juke it is then!
