Walking from Dallas to Fort Worth?

I have really gotten into walking lately. I was wondering if anyone has or knows anyone who has walked from Dallas to Fort Worth?
MeatCrack@reddit
I had a friend in college that walked from 6th street to san marcos after he blacked out, disappeared, and missed his ride home one night. I think he said it took 6 hours
WhatsInAName8879660@reddit
I literally drove to San Antonio weekly last year, where I lived prior to moving to the DFW area. When I lived in San Antonio, I worked in San Marcos, which was an hour away. It usually takes me 5.5 hours to drive to San Antonio. Your friend drove to San Marcos in 4 hours. That’s how long it takes to get there going 65 - 75 most of the way.
MeatCrack@reddit
6th to San Marcos is ~30 miles, same as Dallas to Ftw… not sure what youre trying to illustrate
Historical-Cicada939@reddit
Google Maps says 12hrs, so somewhere he took an alternative mode of transportation
MeatCrack@reddit
Dude, dont care. Youre getting way too into it
Historical-Cicada939@reddit
Just for fun, from American Airlines center to the stockyard , Google Maps clocks it as one day
daydrunk_@reddit
I walked from XTC to Uptown one night at 4am. It took like 3 hours. I definitely walked on the shoulder of 35E in the rain. It was bad
CycloneCowboy87@reddit
Tbf you were more likely to die at XTC

This comment right here 😂
imcaptainstupid@reddit
Damn dude, you know what they say (checks username) nothing good happens after 6pm
ArmWarm8743@reddit
That would have been a really efficient and fast-paced walk.
jrbcnchezbrg@reddit
I attempted doing that but I think passed out at mile 14 and called my friend the next day
Great experience, dont recommend to anyone else
SweetT2003@reddit
My cousin passed out off 6th street and called me the next morning to pick him up. Someone stole his shoes when he was out
Elguapo69@reddit
Right? Google says 11 hours. https://maps.app.goo.gl/9RbtJTdmANuZ3hKL7?g_st=ic
ArmWarm8743@reddit
I was just thinking 30 miles at 4mph is over 7 hours. As a relatively fast walker, most people don’t walk 4mph.
MeatCrack@reddit
🤷🏼♂️ i didnt press the issue. The guy was generally an idiot

I bet his feet hurt. Amazing no one ran him over on 35.
trying_to_adult_here@reddit
Dang…I just walked from 6th back to the dorms on campus if the busses weren’t running. That walk was reasonably pleasant if the weather was nice, especially tipsy in a big group of friends.
AdmiralSnackbar816@reddit
My roommate got really angry in college at a bar on 6th and walked to Far West off Mopac. I’ve never seen a sweatier man.
UnaccreditedSetup@reddit
I had a friend who tried doing this also backed out. He had his San Marcos address entered into the maps and everything.
Bluescreen73@reddit
I'm sure it's been done, but I'm guessing it's not very enjoyable. The Google maps route from downtown Dallas to downtown Fort Worth has a shit ton of walking on the sidewalk along busy highways, and it's estimated to take about 13 hours. On the bright side, it's super flat - 35 mi with about 450ft of elevation gain lol.
BudgetScience2000@reddit
Google Maps can be laughably bad when it comes to walking and biking directions. Take its recommendations with a grain of salt.
Spirited-Warning-162@reddit
this right here, moved to biking/e scooters only recently and been learning this the hard way
BudgetScience2000@reddit
If you're in Dallas, Arlington, or Richardson try the Bike Streets app, which is pretty good at giving low-traffic directions, specially for bikes and scooters. Geovelo is another one I like, not city specific.
dallascowboys93@reddit
How do you not know about the trinity trail? Fuck taking highways
whip_lash_2@reddit
Or you could just take the trail that was built to make it enjoyable.
https://www.nctcog.org/trans/plan/lumo/bikeped/veloweb/fort-worth-to-dallas-regional-trail
twagster@reddit
It would about double the distance. They would have to camp out
kabob21@reddit
There seem to be quite a few unfinished sections but pretty cool that such an initiative not only happened but is mostly complete 👌
TheDakestTimeline@reddit
This sounds great, but NCTCOG is just a terrible acronym
tinyclairey@reddit
Yes. I’ll contact him so he can post details.
Glueberry_Ryder@reddit
A friend of mine walked from Sherlock’s in Arlington back to my house in hurst once. He went through the river bottoms in the middle of the night. 0/10 would not recommend.
thefinalgoat@reddit
I feel like as a woman I wouldn't survive that 😬
Rowdy_Rl@reddit
Jesus, that shows a 5 hour walk on maps.
cristabelita@reddit
This sounds terrifying
Aggressive-Tiger-545@reddit
No way in this DFW mess could you really walk from downtown to downtown. But I'm sure it's been done back in the day.
Fantastic_Scratch_62@reddit
You can string together a route that uses a lot of trails. Definitely some spots that won't be very nice, but I think the locals call that area Arlington.
Fantastic_Scratch_62@reddit
Don't get me wrong -- it's not a point to point turnkey route... You've gotta do some hopping and skipping. Look near the Trinity river course.
Spirited-Warning-162@reddit
yeah north arlington trails are weird, south arlington fish creek trail is legit though
ktktkati@reddit
My husband actually did this recently as part of a training regimen leading up to the Everest Base Camp hike he’s doing in a few weeks. He went from Uptown Dallas to the suburbs of North Fort Worth, about 30 miles and it took him 12 hours
AnEvilPedestrian@reddit
I have back at the end of ‘22, took about 45 miles and not the most pleasant experience. The best part was walking along the trinity river, but once you get to around Irving the trails stop and it is much less enjoyable. You come to find out how much Arlington is just parking lots and how much of the region is one story ranch houses. Gets a little better once you get closer to Ft Worth. Took the TexRail to the airport and then the orange line back to Dallas. I’d recommend it if you are the adventurous type and like to walk, but it probably won’t be the experience for everybody.

I ride my bike regularly to and from Ft Worth from Plano, via Dallas. It can easily be done. It's about 80 miles following the various trails and paths.
No_Drama2424@reddit
It sounds possible but difficult
How long does it take to bike 80 miles?
VelociTopher@reddit
About five and a half hours last time. Not racing, but not lollygagging.
vlatheimpaler@reddit
When I was in high school I went one summer to Meadowmount School of Music, which is in New York State. There was another student there (who I think was a college student, so at least he was out of high school) who had biked there from somewhere in Michigan. That seemed pretty wild to me.
noncongruent@reddit
Back when I was in to bicycling the rule of thumb was that in relatively flat terrain 100 miles a day was quite achievable for average riders.
CeilingUnlimited@reddit
I’ve run the Metroplex Run six times. White Settlement to Rockwall. 73 miles. Stage run. AMA. The key is to roughly follow I-30 and to concentrate on the old highway between Ft. Worth and Dallas - US HWY 80.
If you are just wanting to do Ft. Worth to Dallas, here's the route.
Ft. Worth Start Point - Corner of Meadowbrook and Ward, a mile east of downtown. Walk east on Meadowbrook for nine miles, going over Loop 820E and on to where Ft. Worth turns into Arlington. Turn right on Randol Mill Road.
Walk east on Randol Mill Road for six miles, past the stadiums and under US 360. Turn right on 109th Street and go down to US 80. Turn left.
Once on US 80, you are on the old highway between Dallas and Ft. Worth - the highway before I30 was built in the 1960's. Walk east on US 80 for 10 miles, through old town Grand Prairie (the geographic center of the Metroplex), over Loop 12 (where the road becomes Davis Street) and up Chalk Hill on Davis Street, the tallest, steepest major street in all of DFW. Back in the day, folks would picnic on the top of Chalk Hill while travelling between Dallas and Ft. Worth.
Last stretch - Davis Street forks at the top of the hill. Take Ft. Worth Street to the left and walk Ft. Worth Street all the way to downtown Dallas (it turns into Commerce Street). Five miles.
Let's see... That's 30 miles or so. Ask me any particulars.
This route is safe. There's a couple sketchy areas and a couple stretches where there is a lot of traffic. But, it's doable. As I said, I've run the route six times. Good luck!
wgardenhire@reddit
It will take approximately 17 hours not counting rest stops.
Aromatic-Square3902@reddit
Those monks a while back probably, lol.
viagra___girls@reddit
I had no idea that was happening and was dropping my partner off at rehab after they attempted to leave this earth & I was crying my eyes out on the way back to our apartment in Austin & I just saw all these monks on the side of a 2 lane highway in the middle of nowhere. It was so wild lol.
Historical-Cicada939@reddit
Didn’t the monks just do it? And then on the east side of the US?
CPLCraft@reddit
You may be able to take the Trinity trail for most of the walk.
calf2005@reddit
I knew some long distance runners who did that one Sunday about 10 years ago. Not sure the exact route they took.
Human_Emotion_654@reddit
You could technically walk while riding the TRE.
Notenufron@reddit
I did downtown Dallas to Richardson in 11 hours
NorTXDev@reddit
I walk to my car and drive it, then walk into my destination. It’s more efficient that way
Get a trail map and go exploring. Make sure you have water!
gt0163c@reddit
Chandler Crouch (Fort Worth Realtor who also protests people's property taxes for free) and a couple of his kids did Fort Worth to Dallas not too long ago. He posted some on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/andlercha/
North-Chard-7387@reddit
If I recall correctly, on new years there’s a group of people who walk/run from Fort Worth to Dallas. Google it and I’m sure it details the route they take(pretty much follow 30)
MaybeBaby716@reddit
I hiked with my buddy from Corinth to the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine. A few months later, we walked from the Galleria to Southlake Town Square. Next up is Frisco Star to Downtown Dallas. Each time we did this, our legs were absolutely dead but was super satisfying to know we did that. I think Dallas to Ft Worth would be excruciating.
MrNastyOne@reddit
Incidentally, there was a good story in Texas Monthly magazine recently about a local who walked from the southern edge of Dallas to the northern edge.... roughly 28 miles.
Kalkaline@reddit
I did the bicycle ride. Went from Deep Ellum to Oak Cliff, followed Davis all the way out there. Fairly good sized shoulder most of the way. Plenty of gas stations along the way for water and snacks. Consider taking the TRE back.
MarkMakesArt@reddit
Nah, not worth the attempt
ipranger@reddit
I've caught the walking bug lately and want to do this, too.
Over-Gazelle-8114@reddit
It has been done. Dallas Dirt Runners has an annual NYE 50k from Dallas to FW and FW to Dallas (they switch every other year). They have a FB group and a map.
Kathw13@reddit
There was a way to walk under 183 in Irving. Not sure it is there with the improvements. Do not recommend.
Mission_Quarter_6395@reddit
I knew someone who walked from Arlington to Denton once
whiteholewhite@reddit
They got a train for that route. You should use it. Much more efficient
mylightisalamp@reddit
Theres a group that runs it every year on New Year’s Eve. Check fb groups maybe

This is what I would do. It’s easily walkable and way more scenic. Only downside is fewer gas station hot dogs

I actually did this with a group who does this every NYE.
Did 31 miles in around 6 hours, with stops for lunch and getting snacks.
A lot of it was on trails, but also on sides on roads that had it not been on nye in the morning probably would have had more traffic.
It's a very cool group and there were people who were out there even longer, so it's pretty inclusive to slower paces.
dudewlf@reddit
My friend and I walked from S Hulen to DT Fort Worth in the middle of the night while tripping on shrooms. That shit was fun as hell

I’ve had this same idea haha. Although running would probably be the move and I’d stop for a nice meal in the middle and snacks as needed.
Sadly it just doesn’t seem that nice of views.
noncongruent@reddit
You can walk from Dallas to Fort Worth in less than two and a half hours, from the SE corner of Jefferson and 14th Street to the SE corner of High River Road and Trinity Blvd.
aeroluv327@reddit
I have some friends who run from Dallas to Ft. Worth every New Years, it's about 31 miles. It's definitely do-able.
aeroluv327@reddit
I'm pretty sure this is the route they use: https://connect.garmin.com/app/course/14163276

Jazzlike-Grape-1332@reddit
WHY?!? lol

Not walking, but I met a lady at white rock lake who said she rode a bike from dallas to ft worth every weekend.
Routine_Fox_6767@reddit
you could download strava and see the all trails the people in this area have taken. I'm sure a handful of people have done it lol
Holls867@reddit
Are you going center to center or border to border? It’s like an ultra marathon 30-35 miles.
DumbAVGuy@reddit
Is this inspired by the dude who attempted to walk the M25 around London?
LittleChanaGirl@reddit
Definitely keep an Apple AirTag on you (or similar) so we know where to look for your carcass!
SadAdministration438@reddit
Walking would take a while lol. You could take the TRE (the Trinity Railway Express) for a few bucks instead.
BmoreDude92@reddit
They are into walking not trains.
SadAdministration438@reddit
Okay captain obvious.
another_day_in@reddit
That's way too far for a corgi.
Corgisarethebest123@reddit (OP)
😂
BudgetScience2000@reddit
I know some people who have skated from Mockingbird Station in Dallas to downtown Ft. Worth. Took them just over 5 hours. Like others have mentioned, you can do it mostly on paved trails.
Look at where all the TRE stations are. The train doesn't run on Sundays, but it can be convenient for getting home or cutting your trip short if you need to.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
It takes 2-3 hours to drive that sometimes. I couldn’t imagine walking it in 5.
BudgetScience2000@reddit
They're pretty fast inline skaters. Averaged 12 mph including a few bad sections on gravel.
kweathergirl@reddit
Chandler Crouch just did this with his two kids a couple weeks ago and documented the whole journey on Facebook. It’s a heartfelt story.
He’s a Real Estate Agent that is known in Tarrant County for helping homeowners protest their home appraisals and his calling out Tarrant CAD.
CeilingUnlimited@reddit
I’ve run the Metroplex Run six times. White Settlement to Rockwall. 73 miles. Stage run.
Personal_Might2405@reddit
How much is on your mind? No doubt it can be done.
xzelldx@reddit
If you dont’ want the trails and you’re going downtown to downtown, I’d start on Main ST until it hits Davis (TX180) and then just follow that West. That’s the only road that isn’t controlled access (freeway) that goes directly between the downtowns.
Further south, there’s no sidwalk for pedestrians on Kiest over the lake. Jefferson is nearby but ends in West Arlington.
Avoid the railroad tracks because there are area’s where the track is elevated for the rails only, no walking paths.
shawnkfox@reddit
That is a hike not a walk. Depending on which part of dallas and ft worth you are talking about it may not be doable in one day.
Impossible-Try-9161@reddit
Doable but lacking a single redeeming charm.
Texas22@reddit
Round trip tho??
c_y_g_nus@reddit
absolutely not
VelociTopher@reddit
Absolutely yes.
wharf_rat_01@reddit
A few years ago, there was talk of a mega bike trail that would connect Fort Worth and Dallas. They were going to re-use existing trails as much as possible and fill in the gaps. Not sure on current state.
ParmaHamRadio@reddit
That's the DFW Discovery Trail. It's still in progress. Currently it's possible to get from Fort Worth to the Centreport TRE station via trails. Then the OP could follow a path along the Trinity Boulevard sidewalks to get to Belt Line Road from there. Then there's the tricky issue of navigating along Belt Line to the trailhead near Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. Once the OP reaches Lone Star Park though, it's all trails to Dallas.
https://www.nctcog.org/trans/plan/lumo/bikeped/veloweb/fort-worth-to-dallas-regional-trail
matt_havener@reddit
There’s a new trail and bridge that starts at Roy Orr Blvd and the river and connects to the trail towards Dallas
ParmaHamRadio@reddit
Thanks, this is helpful to learn! Can't wait to bike that new portion!

If you do it, get a large life insurance policy first....maybe get a really hot girlfriend - make her the beneficiary, AFTER a few weeks of course.
Most everyone (especially young folks) are oblivious to the dangers around here. You'll probably make it alive, but the chances of getting hit by a car, or worse, are higher than you think. Take service / back roads - map things out first.....
Looks like a 12-13 hour trip (DT to DT) - you'll want to avoid darkness, so leave around 6:30-7:00a ha
