Spray Foam Insulation in Dallas - Recommendations?
Posted by BoiledEggs@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 10 comments
My house is already not very insulated and with Summer coming up, I'm afraid of how hot our attic will get and am looking into getting spray foam insulation done in the Dallas area.
Has anyone had spray foam put in their attic before and do you have any recommendations on who to go with? We had blown in previously and it just isnt sealing the way spray foam seems to do.
Thanks in advance for your recco's!

If you have non-condensing gas HVAC and it's in the attic, that will be an issue with spray foam.

Make sure to hire a mechanical contractor to upgrade all of the mechanicals in the house to match. Proper ventilation and dehumidification are a must.
Don't become a mold story on accident!

Don't have a specific suggestion, but make sure you do research / get advice about the type of insulation to use for your house's age / construction, etc. Effective moisture management is super important

This is the part that doesn’t seem worth it, the fuckability of it scares the shit out of me. Between chemicals, moisture issues, closing of ventilation (which I’m not sure is possible for me due to gas heaters).

I think it’s generally still very much worth it, especially as climate change pushes the temps and intensity of the summer higher.
But, just takes different expertise to do it right in a house that wasn’t built for it.

What does this usually cost?

Think anywhere from $4,000-$8,000 depending on the square footage

General contractor Memarcg by far the best contractor in Dallas I’ve ever worked with. I can connect you if you need.

We used TX Foam Pros on our attic insulation and from all the different quotes and contractors we spoke with, they were the best option. They kept it clean and did the job within a day, so that was nice. Good luck this Summer!
