Would you tell your neighbour to stop parking over your driveway?

My next door neighbour keeps on parking his car in front of our driveway as all the spaces in front of our house get taken - though there may be some down the road
He has two small kids who he's normally driving back from nursery.
He's blocking our car in, but we only occasionally use the car during the weekIf this were you, would you tell him to stop parking there or would you just let it go?
H5MAW@reddit
We live near a school and quite often someone in a hurry will take liberties and leave their car semi-blocking my drive… and as much as it drives me mad that people just take the piss and do it, I guess if it’s for a few mins I can deal with it.
Perhaps have a chat with your neighbours and suggest they can decant the kids etc but then ask them to move it to a space once they’re done unloading, that way everyone is happy.
split-tennisball@reddit
Why wouldn't you say something if they're blocking your car in?
Nervous_Yard7034@reddit (OP)
Because I don't need to get my car out.
RayaQueen@reddit
Until you do. You never know when an emergency might occur.
It's not legal to park over a dropped curb. I got a ticket once for parking over a newly built one which still had the workmen's do not cross tape around it. Clearly wasn't in use yet but it was there. Busy body householder must have called the police.
Mammoth-Passion-413@reddit
Good on them - sounds like some rule breaker was parking over a new dropped kerb that someone most possibly paid a lot of money to have done
Winkered@reddit
Then I’d just let it go. As long as they’d not be funny if I did need to get the car out.
Beartato4772@reddit
Assuming they are home when you need to get the car out.
Frohus@reddit
there will be a day when you'll need and it will be blocked
split-tennisball@reddit
Until you do
Beartato4772@reddit
Until there’s an emergency and you do.
Mammoth-Passion-413@reddit
Yes - and I have several times. It's annoying and rude and people are so fkin entitled
Lonely-Job484@reddit
There's always a sob story. But the rules exist for a reason. It's irrelevant whether you use the car daily, weekly or monthly, they're parking illegally and should not be doing that.

Tell him, and tell him very soon. Otherwise it's normalised and you'll be arguing against "but this is normal, I always do this, you don't use it, it's no problem for you".
boomtownrat84@reddit
Why wouldn't you say something
GuybrushFunkwood@reddit
You give these fuck wits an inch GUARANTEE they’ll keep coming back. The second he pulls up you should be out the door, failing that knocking on his door or just phoning the police. Be a cunt, get in his face, don’t back down to anything. You set your store out from the word go how you expect to be treated or you’ll always be mugged off.
Watchkeys@reddit
lol this sounds unhinged.
Nuthetes@reddit
He's not wrong though. Chancers like this take the piss. If he ignores it, the neighbour will keep doing it and take more liberties.
Watchkeys@reddit
Yeah, 'be a cunt, get in his face' is definitely what all the wise ones say lol
Few_Food_3705@reddit
I know people will point out your rights or how ignorant this is. Personally I’d just catch him one day and politely raise the concern and ask if he’s parked there is he able to move it at short notice if you have to go out? I’ve got three kids including a disabled child so I understand he wants to get close to his house but personally I’d only do it if I was at home and free to move it. To be fair, if I was your neighbour i would have knocked your door and asked if you mind as I’ll be home to move it if required? But that’s not the perspective we want
GushingAnusCheese@reddit
Happened to me in the past once and I smeared lard all over her door handles and wipers. I got a knock on the door 30 mins later from a crying lady asking if it was me, I denied it with a smirk on my face and told her to be careful where she parks.
Fine_Analyst_4408@reddit
Because talking to her would have been too hard, right?
GushingAnusCheese@reddit
exactly
errobbie@reddit
If you haven’t got a dropped kerb he can legally park there. If the kerb is dropped to access your driveway then he’s parked illegally and you should definitely say something.
hotdogswife@reddit
If they’re blocking you in def say something. What if there was an emergency?
Dharl61@reddit
Blocking your car in is a criminal offence! ( interesting if there is no car on the drive and he parks over the entrance then it is a civil offence instead!).
However would start off with a friendly chat first….
mousepallace@reddit
Is there a dropped kerb? If there is, then he is committing an offence parking across it. I would say if that were the case, but I would anyway citing your need to be able to use your car as and when required.
Mdl8922@reddit
Of course.
Mr-Incy@reddit
How well do you know him and do you have a fairly decent relationship with him?
If it isn't an inconvenience and he moves the car whenever you ask, it isn't really a problem.
I know a lot of people will be saying to have a word with him, tell him to stop, etc. etc. but is it really worth all that if his parking over your drive is not causing you any real issues.
Available-Spray2576@reddit
Not really. OK they've got kids however it's their responsibility to get a place where there is enough parking not just use others'. I'd park right where they parked and leave it there for several weeks. By that point they'd have got the picture and found somewhere else.
himit@reddit
it wouldn't bother me if I rarely used the car, but I'd go round, let him know, and ask for his number so you can have him move it if need be
LeTrolleur@reddit
Talk to him, or if you don't have the confidence to do so you can call the police and they'll get in contact for you, especially if he is blocking your access to the road.
Make note of the reg and take photos before calling.
Just-an-idiot-online@reddit
If he asked, I'd have no issues, but since he didn't, nah. I'd tell him I need the access to my car at all times.
throwaway7362589@reddit
If he needs to temporarily park and get the kids/shopping in, then that’s reasonable. Leaving the car there for an extended period of time is not.
George_Salt@reddit
Am I odd, but I actually get on with my neighbours and talk to them.
DeathByFluffy@reddit
Say something, but if they’re an arse about it get him to move it at 3am a few times. It won’t be a problem for long
OkScholar5964@reddit
100% Don't be a pushover. It needs nipping in the bud asap.
KindlyAppointment973@reddit
Is it a dropped kerb?
I would absolutely say something, whether you are blocked in or not.
RayaQueen@reddit
Bollards to him! That's what you say!
Western_Sort501@reddit
I would say something or have an emergency at 2am and need to get the car out unlikely to do it again after that
No-Daikon3645@reddit
Yes. I knocked on my neighbour's door and told them to move their car. It's really inconsiderate.
CandidateIll9540@reddit
Definitely say something. If he’s blocking your car in a polite word wouldn’t go amiss.
Select_Fig_31@reddit
He should not be blocking your car in. No one should be doing that.
