Pistol slide bite

so a friend and I were having an ATF party last night and as I was switching for my right to my left hand with my nearly 10 year old Taurus g2c, I had switched over to my right hand as I am ... shall we say a switch.. and I managed to get a pretty serious cut on my thumb just above the bottom joints, I can actually see the tendon thank God it did not ever or Nick the tendon.. obviously very embarrassing, I have not had a firearms accident nearly 30 years...
oddly, it seems there are quite a few people who have ran into this with the c as well as other compact firearms that do not have a rather large beaver tail
part of the issue, perhaps the largest part of the issue, was a switching from right to left and getting a little cocky
the other part is, there really is not a lot of room for error on a compact pistol a fraction of an inch upward from where your thumb should be and you're causing some serious damage
interestingly enough when my wife and I were dating I took her shooting, and this would have been nearly 10 years ago.. and her first time shooting a pistol would have been this very g2c... and she managed to catch the wedding between her some inner pointer finger.. not nearly as serious of an injury as I got..
the good news is, my buddy and I are both very well prepared for injuries.. we applied pressure to it brought my hand above my head and got the bleeding to stop in less than 10 minutes.. I could tell the adrenaline was pumping pretty good because I dumped rubbing alcohol on it and it did not hurt at all ... once the adrenaline slowed down the rubbing alcohol was a little more fun as you can imagine
anyway.. I could have dressed the wound myself but it was much easier to have him do it, then I drove myself to the ER, they confirmed that there was no damage to the tendon.. the doctor said less than a millimeter more and it would have undoubtedly severed the tendon it was rather interesting to look into one's body and see the tendon doing its thing.. the doctor also commented that he was impressed with how deep it was and the fact that we were able to stop the bleeding so quickly part of that was that I arched my thumb backward to push the cut back together while it was being dressed and held it in that position while driving to the emergency room
I actually do have everything necessary to sew it up.. however for whatever reason that is not in my truck today only my basic med kit is
now that I've babbled for some time I'm thinking about getting another pistol and leaving this one to somebody else with smaller hands.. any suggestions on something that is more full size, probably not much more than $400.. and ideally that has some good separation between my fingers and the slide.. or at least a nice beaver tail to keep me from being an idiot?

What was the first gun accident?

Years ago with a 12 gauge sawed off pistol grip I clocked myself.. never had shot one before and just didn't think about it until it was too late.. but that I was when I was I think 12 or 13 ... Over 20 years ago

Sounds like a grip issue. I’ve got a G2S that has thousands of rounds both dominant and non-dominant shooting. No slide bite.
Check out the Ruger RxM. It’s my new obsession. I’m also in love with my CZ P10c, both fall into your price requirements

I've never had problems with it.. I've certainly shot tons of rounds through this thing.. it's the first time it's ever happened, I think I've had that thing for nearly a decade at this point... I have no doubt though that my grip was incorrect when I switched quickly from my left to my right.. it's the only way that it could have happened, it's been a very reliable gun though.. I just don't like the idea that if I very quickly grab the thing in a situation where I need to use it that I could mess up and enter myself with it.. I mean I guess no matter what any firearm can injure you if you're not careful.. but it is admittedly a pretty embarrassing mistake
