I literally used to go outside and bang sticks together for fun

I invented this game after playing Final Fight in the arcade. grab a couple straight tree branches and have them " fight" bashing them together till one breaks. the stick that didn't break wins and it goes on to fight other sticks till there's only one stick left and that stick is the champion stick. anybody else invent games like this as a kid? I spent hours doing this

Me too. I looked for short sticks or long twigs to simulate drum sticks and large sticks for use as walking sticks on hikes.

Wait, y'all quit doing that?!

I did give it up for awhile, but I'm glad to hear others are getting back into the old ways. Saw a kid hitting a shady bush the other day and it reminded me of this simple childhood joy.

Did you ever try slamming a bit stick on the ground? That was cool when I did it

The trick is to find the medium weight (relative to diameter) stick with some bark left on it. The light ones are bug eaten, and the heavy ones are waterlogged and rotten. But that medium weight one with a little flex will always win. I am glad we weren't the only ones.

I used to take a spray bottle out to the grill as it was cooling off after dinner. I would spritz the surface and watch the water boil off into clouds of steam and jumping droplets. I would do this repeatedly until I was bored or the grill cooled off too much to sizzle.Ā

I still do it. The sound (and smell) of two freshly split pieces of cedar knocking together is the highlight of my day!

My neighborhood group invented a game called āJack the Tripper.ā It consisted of running around in the grass trying to trip each other. Last person standing won. Except there was no rule about getting right back up again. So to win, you had to take each other out hard enough that the other person would choose to stay down. Good times.

I used to collect bugs and then rip all of their wings and legs off. Or go play in the woods all day only to return when the street lights came on.

Id throw sticks at cardboard and pretend to be a ninja

Me and my buddy invented the same game, though of course we would wield each our stick. We would spend hours bashing them together, cheering for the really resilient ones until they eventually broke, and a new champion was made.

Iām still so good at flipping TV remotes in the air, I used to lay on my bed and just toss the remote into all kinds of flips and catch it a certain way. I can also do a lot of different character voices from doing a lot of that growing up, pretty sure Disney would hire me if they heard my Donald Duck.

We used to play a game like this on the playground when we were kids.

I used to play a game with my cousin where we would each stand behind a tree with a stick. Bang the stick on your tree so it would break and shoot a piece at the other person. Good times.

Yeah, I had this wooden whirligig type toy. It had talismanic power. I would walk around the house, the yard, whenever, pretending I was flying a plane, on a World War II naval ship, a starship, traveling across some fantasy world. We were allowed to use our imaginations more back then.

Moved to the country, my kids play a similar game.
