And the first thing he enjoyed was a bottle of Dasani water. No idea if any of you got tickets to see him hawk his gin this week, but if you did, feel free to say hi on the subreddit’s behalf!
yngseneca@reddit
In Europe plastic tops don't come off plastic bottles, they stay tethered. Just some context.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I feel like that has to be very annoying.
General_Scipio@reddit
So fucking annoying. Hated it the moment I tried it.
I stopped noticing it half way through my first drink. It's absolutely not an issue and if it helps the planet even better
People love to complain, it's pathetic
WySLatestWit@reddit
I would argue that all you're contributing to is the increased production of plastic.
General_Scipio@reddit
A tiny tiny bit. Which theoretically stops smaller bits entering the environment
But honestly, I'm willing to trust whoever the hell decided it was a good idea on this one. They probably know better than me when it comes to environmental issues.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I don't have strong opinions on it one way or another, but in my limited research I've done since seeing this thread pop up it does feel like the CO2 emissions are potentially much more harmful long term than plastic bits.
daredevil_mm@reddit
These plastic bits never disappear. It would end up floating for decades
WySLatestWit@reddit
CO2 Emissions are multitudes of levels more existentially harmful to all life on earth.
daredevil_mm@reddit
But if the lid doesn’t end up in the ocean, which is what this prevents, it can be reused. So the embodied carbon can be amortised. The extra co2 into this tiny piece won’t add much more than the lid
WySLatestWit@reddit
Studies suggest just producing these new tethered lids will actually result in extremely increases in CO2 emissions.
Freddyeddy123@reddit
Can you link your source please or we will just assume you are lying for some reason
ecol@reddit
What studies are those? 😂😂😂
daredevil_mm@reddit
Source? ‘Extreme’ - doubt it
Schwartzy94@reddit
Normal bottles still have those small bits now it just doesnt seprarate.
Suspicious_Neck_5156@reddit
They pull off extremely easily.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I don't think youre supposed to do that.
Suspicious_Neck_5156@reddit
lol no idea why you’re getting downvoted. I only pull them off when I’m drinking directly from the bottle, it’s a little easier to get the cap on straight when it’s not connected too.
WySLatestWit@reddit
You know I wonder if that's actually a cultural difference between Europeans and Americans I didn't really know about. I feel like when it comes to plastic bottles - at least of a certain size - Americans always drink right out of the bottle. Do Europeans tend to pour into a glass more often than not? Genuine question.
Echo-Azure@reddit
If I'm buying bottled water, I don't have a glass handy.
If I'm at home where my glassware is, I drink the perfectly decent tap water that comes out of the faucet, not bottled water.
Suspicious_Neck_5156@reddit
Well it depends, if I’m at work I’d drink straight from a bottle but that would tend to be smaller ones, I’ve got a larger bottle of irn bru with me at the minute, 2 litres, and I am pouring this into a glass with ice, I’m at home why would I drink from a bottle?
fnork@reddit
Thank fuck.
Irrelevant231@reddit
It's utterly infuriating. It's designed to leave the sharp edge of plastic broken from the neck rubbing against your face. Probably dictated by some bureaucrat with the imagination of a mouldy potato and the self-righteousness of a Frenchman.
That said, as others have pointed out, it's easy to remove, it just adds 10 seconds to what was once a 2 second job (unless you're happy to yank it and risk spilling it everywhere).
Hankol@reddit
And all of those people are idiots. It’s such a small thing, that helps the environment quite a bit. Not being able to use it properly is just laziness.
TSMKFail@reddit
You get used to it very quickly, or at least I did. Most of them also "lock" open with a small clip.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I don't really have a great opinion on them one way or another, quite honestly, it just feels like the kind of thing that would be a mild annoyance. I would probably gripe about it every time, even though it really isn't a problem. Though I feel like there's a high enough percentage of people who do find them annoying that the sad reality is they're probably snapping the tether anyway - there's someone in this thread who commented about it being quite easy to do. So I question it's effectiveness in the end.
TheLastGenXer@reddit
You must not have had a euro coke then. its a effen crime against humanity.
meanwhile some water bottle designs were brillant
TheLastGenXer@reddit
different bottles use different methods and caps.
every euro water bottle ive used, Ive liked it!
some were better though.
however euro coke caps are pure trash!!
and they make it hard to reseal and trick you into thinking its seal so it can leak everywhere.
B4bulj@reddit
It is only annoying to cavemen that can't figure out how to use it properly. The rest of us finds them quite useful and handy.
WindowsXp_ExplorerI@reddit
I find them useful actually. They prevent the cap from accidentally falling to the ground and they are very non intrusive if you take 2 sec to figure out how to drink without hitting the cap on your nose
PoolRamen@reddit
That's one of the points, it lessens the number of objects littering, though the primary purpose is to allow both to be recycled even if they go through SSR
ConsistencyWelder@reddit
They're awful. A quality of life degradation, a minor one, but it's so annoying and doesn't help the polar bears/cute kittens one bit
WySLatestWit@reddit
Now the bottle and the cap both end up stuck to the same bear but everybody gets to feel like they're making a difference.
zeromadcowz@reddit
When I first heard about it it sounded a bit annoying but when I was in Denmark it was a complete nonissue. Complete mountain out of a molehill.
ConsistencyWelder@reddit
You must have been in the only part of Denmark where people aren't complaining about it constantly.
zeromadcowz@reddit
Can’t say I spent any time speaking to anyone about bottle lids. I just saw it and was like “oh” and moved on.
scottishkiwi-dan@reddit
You know it’s definitely a real problem if Clarkson wrote a column about it!
bongsforhongkong@reddit
Or is it a made up problem like climate change? /s
ProfoundBeggar@reddit
The biggest complaint I have with that style of cap is that it makes it slightly harder to refill from a water fountain or something, but not by much. They're fine; I can see why people don't like them, but if anyone actually cares, that says more about them than the cap.
shikkonin@reddit
You wouldn't believe how much of a completely irrelevant non-issue that is.
WySLatestWit@reddit
Uh. Then it not being tethered is equally irrelevant but I don't see you sending snark to James about it how pointless it is.
shikkonin@reddit
Sure, because you obviously know everything that goes on anywhere in the world.
WySLatestWit@reddit
You got really hostile about this for zero reason whatsoever.
shikkonin@reddit
You asked something, got a clear answer, then you immediately started lashing out. Why is anyone's guess.
WySLatestWit@reddit
Nobody lashed out. You're being unnecessarily hostile, and you're getting downvoted several times for it now. Have a great day.
shikkonin@reddit
Yes, you did.
There is exactly one hostile person here: you. Nobody else.
Have the day you deserve.
Senrogas@reddit
I like them and I will die on this hill(I used to drop or lose the caps alot)
LrdoftheCharlesDance@reddit
The App is still called twitter for iPhone ?
Sloppykrab@reddit
Musk changed the front-end but not the backend.
forma_cristata@reddit
Yup the api services are still called twitter api
smsmkiwi@reddit
Where in the US?
Potential_Yam_5196@reddit
One day I’ll catch his tour and ask him how he survived drinking Dasani 😂
Scary_Plane_8069@reddit
They made fun of Hammond for being "American", but he seems to spend more time there.
flakman129@reddit
Our Man in America confirmed back on!?
Competitive-Sun8180@reddit
Was James in Santa Barbara last week? I thought I had a sighting of him driving a white 911.
West-Ad-6738@reddit
mmmm, Dasani.......my favorite is "leeching plastic bottle" flavor
Dawnspark@reddit
I remember it always tasting very vaguely salty *and* like plastic which made it all the more unpleasant. Especially if the bottle had been sitting somewhere long enough to get room temp or warmer.
Guardsred70@reddit
Oh no.....he'll have to drink water without the cap being attached to the bottle and poking him in the eyeball.
ConsistencyWelder@reddit
Or without it suddenly swinging down breaking the stream while you're pouring, spilling the content everywhere except for the glass.
Americans have it so good.
itchygentleman@reddit
that's unfortunate for him
StepYaGameUp@reddit
Get that man a Fiji
callmedonkeyshlong@reddit
Yep I got tickets to see him today in Seattle.
DarePatient2262@reddit
Oof, James must have fallen on hard times if he's stuck drinking Dasani.
