I've worked for a big box retailer for the last 20 years. Our POS systems ran SLES when I started, then Centos7, and now Oracle Linux 8.
I miss SLES, they had great support and supported all our register hardware.

Very cool. I know the local Lowes here used to run NeXTStep on some of their machines, but that was over 25 years ago.

about 20 years ago I was doing some contract work at Tacobell, installing replacement harddrives that had SUSE on them.

In case you were wondering why the first command didn't work... uname* Do you ever see these get upgraded? Curious how they would be doing it administratively

There exists a master image in the store, the thin clients get reimages on each restart. Master image comes from corporate and gets regular updates in a staggered release schedule.

I have mostly old information but I worked at the Lowe’s IT Desk at a point in time and as part of that window of time we did the Ubuntu rollout in stores. IT Desk didn't really have much involvement in implementation but I know bits and pieces.

I'm more impressed that Lowe's even still exits
