Bulgaria violated freedom of association by denying registration of an ethnic Macedonian rights organisation, UN committee finds. Thoughts on Balkan disputes such as this?

GENEVA – Bulgaria violated the right to freedom of association of an ethnic Macedonian, co-founder of a non-profit human rights organisation, when domestic courts rejected his application to register the association without providing a valid legal justification, the UN Human Rights Committee has concluded.

Are you joking?
Apart-Temperature329@reddit
Human rights don't work like that, and the respective groups aren't your captives where you get to allow or deny things via 'quid pro quo bro!' Not to mention this not going to fly since the EU.
LibertyChecked28@reddit
Yes, we saw how that went with the Crimean referendum.
Apart-Temperature329@reddit
Russian settler-colonialists in Crimea wrongly being provided a vote for determining the future of the land is relevant now? That's not even comical...
LibertyChecked28@reddit
Calling them ''settler-colonialists'' and denying their rights for [asylum->identity-> referendum->state belonging] is direct violation of their 'human rights' as well.
We both know that those arbitrary understanding of "Human Rights" had been exploited by an bad actor with intentionally underhanded goals during 2014 since the very get go, and your selective reading of Buzzword concepts is entirely hypocritical & emotionally biased at best, where as mine is nothing short of cynical- But I just want to point out that the framing of your argument is utterly stupid as it is.
"The Residents of Donbass" too weren't [Ukrainian nor Russian captives obligated to follow whatever Ukraine wants them to do]- They might have Russian Militants with Russian Loyalties but those are tiny details.
Tiny details like the real number of N.Macedonian nationals residing on the territory of Bulgaria instead of utilizing their citizenships to emigrate to Germany, the N.Macedonain census that only 0.2% of Macedonians have Bulgarian citizenship and 0,05% of those actually reside in Bulgaria, the boundaries of our constitution stating that there are no limits over induvial culture, but culture shouldn't be politicised nor used in bad faith, and just like with Greece the current Macedonian culture very much doesn't stand out from the current local one unless it starts to act in a bad faith. + The tidbit that NGO's whom had build their entire career around suing Bulgaria with +6000 cases per year, exist only with the purpose of racketeering, and this is a bloat case with the goal of them securing their monthly salaries over actually benefiting the local minorities.
Apart-Temperature329@reddit
No, it's not, as they're literal settler-colonialists, most of whom had been moved in by a colonial master, after a literal genocide on the native populations which literally emptied them of their own ancestral lands for long years, and they've never recovered from it.
Settler-colonisers don't have any rights in choosing for the self-determination of the future of a country. Same would went for any kind that had been settled in a similar fashion and via a genocidal policy. German settler-colonisers didn't have rights for self-determination after they've settled in lands during the WWII either, and same goes for Israeli settlers not have such rights on the lands they occupy, etc. They shouldn't have even gotten anything beyond resident permits or 'alien passports' but only allowed to stay for humanitarian reasons, but that sadly has been avoided.
You cannot deny a native population their human rights via a silly pseudo-justification regarding 'they're exploiting their rights bro' - which typically means that they don't fit into the state narrative, national myth, or in-line with the state policies. They don't have to be such.
Sorry, but no, there's no such a case outside of your strawmen in your fantasy world, lol.
Surely, if we're to open the way for redrawing the borders in post-Soviet landscape, I can be all for it, especially if it's going to be done via denying settler-colonisers a vote. Then, Russia would be way smaller anyway, and would be kicked out of many of their imperial possessions. It'd surely solve the Eastern Ukraine question too.
Mate, if they're Bulgarian citizens, then they can use their rights that's allowed them via being EU citizens. And you're somehow sad about that?
Culture itself doesn't determine the ethnicity and nationality. You should be aware of that just by being from Balkans but here we are.
They can sue Bulgaria all they want, as it's their legal right. If you do have problem with paying the fines, then don't commit faul acts? Who would have thought? /s
MartinBP@reddit
No one has denied them anything. They continue to spill hate on their socials and organise events in the country with the support of the NM government.
BarskiPatzow@reddit
You just can’t hide it.

Bulgar bigotry clear as day - they think they have the right to discriminate because their nation is “older” or something
LibertyChecked28@reddit
We should start paying you rent at this point.
shortEverything_@reddit (OP)
Go on any Macedonia related post: Swamped with bulgars
Go on any Bulgarian related post: 0 Macedonians since we don’t care
We live rent free in bulgar heads
LibertyChecked28@reddit
Mate r/mkd physically can't last a month without seething about Bulgaria at least 3 times a week. For the past 4 months your profile quite literally doesn't have even a single comment that isn't about Bulgaria- Even I beef less with Turkish ppl online.
Need I remand you that this is r/Balkans- An international sub dedicated towards nation specific questions with sizeable populaiton of every single Balkan state:
-When someone posts a thing about Transylvania Romanians and Hungarians come out as expected, where as the Greeks and Turks remains quiet.
-When someone post a thing about Cyprus the Turks and Greeks emerge, where as the Romanians and Hungarians become quiet.
-When someone posts a thing about Bulgaria AND Macedonia, Bulgarians and Macedonians emerge while the Serbs give directions from the Cuck Chair.
BarskiPatzow@reddit
It’s a comfy chair, I must admit.
scales_and_fangs@reddit
We are older but that has nothing to do with it.
I wonder if tomorrow our institutions reverse our stance on this NGO whether your government will finally do something to protect those living in North Macedonia who consider themselves ethnic Bulgarians from harrassment. As agreed. That matters for Bulgaria really much.
grympy@reddit
Who are they? All of us?
The real depressing thing about this whole political saga is reading comments like your. An old judge fart decided something out of his ass and you qualify the whole country as “they think they have the right to discriminate”
Man, the hate flows through you…
MartinBP@reddit
Oh the minority expert has arrived lol
OkoMushrooom@reddit
This issue is separate, at the end of the day Macedonia allows Bulgarian organizations to be registered and operate as they wish and even exempts these NGOS on the literature they import across the border from paying taxes on these materials.
One of them even threw these propaganda materials in peoples yards while everyone was sleeping in the middle of the night a few years ago across some cities but no one got sensitive about it.
What Bulgaria is doing by violating freedom of association laws to a small number of people and even giving 10 year entry bans to the international lawyers representing them is giving very small 🍆 energy.
MartinBP@reddit
Macedonians can form organisations here and there are numerous ones registered. Those specific irredentists who have been advocating for treason and broke numerous laws in the process over the span of 25+ years while being bankrolled by Skopje are a specific issue and they're the ones starting these cases with international institutions (again, at the behest of Skopje).
OkoMushrooom@reddit
Yeah a handful of people with an office in some abandoned barrack are a serious danger to your internal politics, like I said you guys are giving off small energy.
PlamenIB@reddit
A personal question- if I remember I profile correctly you are the one wasting my time. You claimed that “I consider Sofia as my next place to live” or something like that. I am 100% sure because of your name. Why are you doing this? Why do you pretend to be “bigger than that” and above all of this? What do you gain from that? People are going to like you more or something else? And when you made some claims at least you can do your research- “Ancient Macedonians” is registered in Bulgaria. They are searching for your connection to Cleopatra and Hunza (yeah- this is official). Please do not waste everyone’s time.
OkoMushrooom@reddit
Oh so now we’re directly going for the personal attacks? How typical. Anyway at the time I was exploring job opportunities in Sofia and tried to get a measure for life there. I came to my senses very quickly though and abandoned that insane idea. As for the second part of your comment I have absolutely no Idea what you’re saying.
PlamenIB@reddit
The typical is to pretend to be victim all over internet. The only reason for your presence here is to waste everyone’s time.
OkoMushrooom@reddit
You’re the one engaging with me?
Special-Transition77@reddit
Nice whatabotism
Appropriate_War2482@reddit
"Expressing my personal opinion, not the official position of my government"
If more people on this sub said this we would have like half as many arguments honestly.
MartinBP@reddit
Well, we don't even have a government right now, so it's kind of a given.
LingonberryDizzy6633@reddit
Because as a EU-member state you're promising to respect human rights. Just because someone wrongs you, doesn't mean you have to wrong them.
MartinBP@reddit
Sit down people, the human trafficking capital of Europe is speaking about human rights!
ZERO human rights have been breached regarding Macedonians here. One of them ran over a dog on camera and ran away while the country was outraged AND got to keep his job. The Macedonian "organisations" this article is referring to are a bunch of irredentist alcoholics in the mountains on Skopje's payroll who failed to form a political party 25 years ago, have a long history of breaking the law and have openly advocated for North Macedonia to invade Bulgaria (i.e. treason). And they've faced zero repercussions for this BS. ZERO.
The Macedonians are copying the bullshit minority playbook of Putin, Vucic and Orban and trying to force it here through their paid proxies. They can take their EU passports and go rage about it online from their apartment in Vienna.
scales_and_fangs@reddit
Well, it will be all simpler if both parts keep their promises, yes? The principle of reciprocity is in the foundation of international relations. Besides North Macedonia as an EU candidate has agreed to follow the same conventions. Bulgaria is among the first(if not the first);country that recognized then F.Y. Republic of Macedonia as an independent country, is that not a sign of good will? You can't expect only Bulgaria to act in good faith.
LibertyChecked28@reddit
Very rich coming from the Dutch, it's not like there is absolutley anything stopping Macedonian schools/cultural events being formed by the N.Macedonian nationals residing here.
The tiny titbit that they themselves can't organise those things without direct incursion from their Gov and reflexively turning it all around foreign incursioned Bulgarophobia with large beatiful "Jebem vi materu Tatari"-slogans is a different topic. But yes, lets trust the NGO's who promote the abolishment of the age of consent on that matter, they seem like objective bunch.
PlamenIB@reddit
The “ethnic Macedonians” are 5 old drunk dudes. At least go to a meeting with Stojko. He doesn’t know how to multiply integer numbers but you made him “professor”.
Special-Transition77@reddit
> According to the 2021 Census in North Macedonia, 3,504 people identified as Bulgarians, representing approximately 0.19% of the total population. (Census observed by the EU and welcomed by them)
Same with the bulgars here - yet they think they represent half the country and cry victim

Bulgar logical deduction
PlamenIB@reddit
Here I expect resume of Cleopatra and Hunza connections next time you ancient one.
Odd-Organization-740@reddit
This is stupid. Our judicial system is complete trash. Bulgarians have also been burned like this, getting rejections without the basic courtesy of an explanation and reasoning.
We have also rejected asylum for activists from dangerous countries, who have proven themselves to be decent people and to actually need asylum (as opposed to abusing the system like many in the West).
I'm not a big fan of N. Macedonia, but I'm siding with this guy on this issue. Sue our fucking country.
MartinBP@reddit
Pretty sure him advocating for a millitary intervention by North Macedonia in Blagoevgrad and a string of scandals in the late 90s and early 2000s might've had an effect on this specific guy's predicament.
