Eastern-orthodox zealots touch themselves over these photoshops...
geizige-vorhaut2289@reddit
Yeah me for example and I’m not even religious
other-work-account@reddit
It's alright, you're just a romatic... A nationalist romantic, but a romantic nevertheless.
Kitsooos@reddit
This is fake btw.
UnhappyBreadfruit607@reddit
Greek bros I know nothing about Greek religious symbols is that a dragon that is slain in second picture
HumanMan00@reddit
Pretty legendary depiction present in most christian iconography. St George slaying the Dragon.
rattlecanner@reddit
wait, there were dragons at some point in human history?
HumanMan00@reddit
Oh yes - the fight against them weakened th Byzantine empire so it fell to the Turks.
LizardmanJoe@reddit
Ottoman propaganda doesn't want you to know about the true origins of Byzantine's "liquid fire".
Hefty_Jaguar4305@reddit
It's quite astonishing that Greeks and others always start with the anti-Ottoman theme. But if you take Romania as an example, there was no hatred for De Rinsel Ada Kaleh or in the Dobruja region. Even King Carol I had a mosque built in Constanta. Consider that! Unique in history, a Christian king building a mosque for his Muslim subjects. Nevertheless, many Turks emigrated to Turkey in the 1930s and 1960s.
Palagrin@reddit
it might have something to do with the genocides...
(also fuck all empires)
Hefty_Jaguar4305@reddit
But not all so called Turks have to do with it.
I mean what about the Balkan Turks who never lived in Turkey until today?
Palagrin@reddit
you didnt say Turks you said Ottoman empire, i have nothing against modern-day Turks (with the exception of the assholes that rioted and trashed my dad s n other greek homes in the 50s) but when you use the word ottoman i m going to assume we are talking about the ottoman empire and its many many crimes
Hefty_Jaguar4305@reddit
I can't say much about the Ottoman Empire because my paternal ancestors lived in complete isolation on a small Danube island called Ada Kaleh. They were completely unaware of what was happening around them. It was a very different environment. Even the houses weren't in the Ottoman style, as you can see from old pictures.
Palagrin@reddit
...ok? do you get why ppl are generally very anti ottoman empire, though? It's pretty reasonable
UnhappyBreadfruit607@reddit
More like Dragons were first wave of attack. Sadly in this iconography he killed Alduin the greatest Turkish fighter in history.
AttilaTheDank@reddit
Alduin was Albanian I'm pretty sure
CalydonianBoar@reddit
well, if you are a devout Christian , you have to believe that dragons really existed. And St. George was a dragon slayer knight (although he was a Pretorian legionary in real life).
BankBackground2496@reddit
Of course dragons were real, we keep finding their bones.
AJM1613@reddit
yes, as depicted in the historical biography "Game of Thrones"
driftstyle28@reddit
It's kind of metaphoric, he was a high ranking Roman officer (a tribune) in the prestigious imperial guard who refused to renounce his faith under Emperor Diocletian. In AD 303, Diocletian issued edicts requiring Christian soldiers to sacrifice to pagan gods. George publicly refused, leading to his arrest and severe torture. He was eventually beheaded on April 23, 303, on the walls of Nicomedia. The dragon actually represents Emperor Diocletian (or his advisor Dadianus) who sought to "devour" the faithful. In early Coptic texts, Dadianus is explicitly called the "dragon of the abyss".
UnhappyBreadfruit607@reddit
Also thank you for explaining it to me
UnhappyBreadfruit607@reddit
Saint Dovahkiin
MiskoSkace@reddit
Saint George slaying a dragon, a rather popular saint because slaying dragons looks cool
UnhappyBreadfruit607@reddit
Is he popular around all of the Christians or more specifically Orthodox sect
Tasty-Pudding9708@reddit
St George is a patron saint of England.
MiskoSkace@reddit
He's a patron saint of agricultural workers, farmers, field workers, soldiers, archers, armourers, equestrians, cavalry, saddle makers, chivalry, peacekeeping missions; skin diseases, sheep, shepherds, scouting, Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, and Palestine (according to Wikipedia), and there are multiple places in my country called Sveti Jurij, Šentjur, or Šenčur.
UnhappyBreadfruit607@reddit
He is elder scrolls playeable character being important figure in most random things
driftstyle28@reddit
Popular among all Christians, some Serbs (me included) also celebrate him as a patron saint thru the tradition of "Slava" on a day called "Djurdjevdan" (George's day).
best_decision1234@reddit
He is especially popular among orthodox Christians but Catholics and Protestants are also familiar with him. There’s some level of mythology about the dragon slaying of course, but he was a real person, every saint in fact - was. We venerate them because lots of them have suffered for their faith and we use them as an example of being good Christians, so to speak. Some of them were skinned alive, beheaded, thrown to the lions, etc. Especially during the late Roman Empire when Christianity was persecuted
Martha_Fockers@reddit
On the surface it may not appear like much a rusty old submarine
But your looking at some of the most badass moment in Balkan history imo
Allied with the Soviets but not happy they aren’t communist enough they had some submarines docked in Albania at the time
And we just straight up stole there submarines lmfao
Can’t tell me little Albania jacking some of USSR Russia subs at the time isn’t some badass shit lmfao
Careful-Evening-5187@reddit
Bro, they pulled the "storage locker secret treasure" scam on you.
They dumped their garbage on you, believing you just hit the jackpot....but the Soviets saved money on scrap and disposal fees.
Martha_Fockers@reddit
They are now 100% just rust but in 1961 when this happened these were whiskey class subs first serviced in 1952 the best of what they had at the tineb
Lonely-Programmer123@reddit
It takes some balls to attempt to gaslight the soviets.
Elmalukat@reddit
Why do you comment without any information at all?

Just like Jesus wanted. Weapons of mass destruction!

GeorgeTH281@reddit
Religion of peace btw…
Tank_Nerd141@reddit
Christianity doesn't condemn the people who arm themselves for peace, to protect their home. As Christians we are called to bear arms, not to kill and enslave but protect our faith and family too
abki12c@reddit
You mean the religion of the twelve Gods? Because the one with the saints is photoshopped, while this one with Zeus is real
SOHONEYSAME@reddit
(is it, actually, real?).
abki12c@reddit
Yes
SOHONEYSAME@reddit
wtf, based.
GeorgeTH281@reddit
Did Zeus advocate for peace, empathy and love?

And what exactly are you trying to say by posting this? You do know that Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Muslims live in the Balkans, along with various ethnicities and languages. Right? Are you trying to sow hatred with this post? Or what was your intention?

Oh but yeah, of course.... I forgot. Saint what's his name painting will protect them...
Hefty_Jaguar4305@reddit
But that only applies to Balkan people of the Orthodox faith; Catholics and Muslims are excluded.
