who else lived in the arcade growing up in the 80s? remember setting your tokens for next game? remember how rad you felt when you won a game and earned the right to stay at the cabinet and play for free on the next person's game?❤️🔥

Wow… took me back 😢

Arcadia. A mythical land lost to time.
Festeroo@reddit
I used to go to Aladdin’s Castle in the Granite Run mall in Media, PA back in the day.
sp0rk_walker@reddit
We had an Alladin's castle. I remember when they switched to tokens.

Come bust a move where the games are played. It's chill, it's fresh, it's Noah's Arcade.
Much_Usual_3855@reddit
Didn't you see the movie? Aladdin's castle is in Agrabah
BobSki778@reddit
Wait…. Aladdin’s Castle was a chain? I never knew. Then again, I think I was 15 or so when the one in the mall near where I grew up in Brookfield, WI closed down.
Head_Effect3728@reddit
Same revelation. We had one in a mall in Virginia
ActCrafty@reddit
Yup. They were in pretty much every mall until the end of the 90s beginning of the 2000s.
Grogaldyr@reddit
Whoa! I never knew Aladdin's Castle was a chain! It was the best place to hang out (as a kid, in my opinion)!
Luckinflux@reddit
Man, I used to go to Aladdin's in Mountain View, CA back in the 80's. Total memory unlocked! Thanks OP
banksy_h8r@reddit
What is the relief on the second one?
uid_0@reddit
Looks like the other side of the 3rd one.
banksy_h8r@reddit
Found a website, that speculates it might be a stylized Aladdin's face. What a strange design.
SunshineAlways@reddit
Emphasized the facial hair a little too strongly for one thing.
NegScenePts@reddit
Uh, it no longer exists.
PUT IT IN 'H'!
mfhandy5319@reddit
The ones at Galaxy World had two slots on one side.
kingoflimbs_us@reddit
core memory unlocked.
redbanner1@reddit
That first one isn't from a country. It's from a station.
A NAMCO Cyberstation!
It was one of my early jobs. It had been a few other arcades over the years it was in the mall, including Aladdin's Castle, and we had five gallon buckets of tokens from all the old iterations in our back room. We used to take bags of them and travel to other parts of the state to dominate arcades without spending any money in them.
AdLeather8285@reddit
My parents told me that the naughty kids went to Aladdin’s Castle. I was disappointed when I finally went.
HoleSheBang@reddit
Former naughty kid here - your parents were right

The Putt-Putt theme song is now stuck in my head. Ahhhh....the good ol' days.

Don’t forget to bring your grade card for free tokens!
rab-byte@reddit
There was an Aladdin’s Castle in the town I grew up in. Man core memory unlocked!
DeadManAle@reddit
Where I grew up we had Replay and Replay II
HarryHaywire@reddit
I have a token sitting in a drawer next to me, but it's from a bowling alley nearby that still uses them (or DID still last time I was there, which in retrospect has been well over a decade now. so maybe not STILL, but fairly recently)
SXTY82@reddit
Was Aladdin's Castle a chain? I spent too much money there.
Garth_W00kz@reddit
Yup! We had one in Akron OH
SXTY82@reddit
North of Boston for us.
HanzoTheRazor333@reddit
Yes it was. It was owned by Bally's.
ShyChiBaby@reddit
They're from the United States from an arcade called Aladdin's Castle. I'm not sure if they were national but they were all over the Chicagoland area
Baxtir@reddit
There was one in AZ too! Used to frequent it when I was younger.
Anonymo123@reddit
They were def in Colorado as well lol
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
Lol I know what they are. They are my tokens from my childhood. My son found them in my old footlocker.
ShyChiBaby@reddit
Lol I thought I was on r/whatisit. Getting old and not paying attention.
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
No worries! Chi? Chicago? I grew up in joliet!
ShyChiBaby@reddit
Close enough I was in Orland Park.

Put that token on the machine you got next match. I used to love playing street fighter, coins lined up on the glass from the next challenger.

Check the post body text!!❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 I spoke about exactly that!! Was there a more rad feeling?!

Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
My man, there was no chuck e. Cheese back then.... it was SHOWBIZ PIZZA.... come on!!!🤦♂️
RetiredPoPo10-8@reddit
My man...Chuck E. Cheese first opening in 1977. The one in my home town opened in 1982 and I started working there in 1984. Come on...if youre going to act all smart, get your facts straight first before making yourself sound like an idiot.
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
But, my man....
RetiredPoPo10-8@reddit
Look again idiot
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
I'm at a loss guy. You're check came from SHOWBIZ pizza. It wasn't called chuck. E. Cheese until 1990. So... what am I missing?🤦♂️🤣

Chuck e cheese filed for bankruptcy in 1985 show biz bought them that same year but then started rebranding thier restaurants in late eighties back to chuck e cheese.
hkusp45css@reddit
Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz were direct competitors for years, before the merger in '90.
Showbiz didn't "become" CEC, Showbiz BOUGHT CEC, their long time rival.
LOTS of people worked for CEC, long before Showbiz was even a thing.
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
Damn. I totally conceed. Never knew that. Was CEC called that since it opened? does idiot dance I'll be double dog dipped!❤️🔥 thanks for the information and not just getting mad at me without explanation.
SomePeopleCallMeJJ@reddit
There were two similar, but separate, "pizzas and robots" chains that competed with each other for a few years: Chuck E. Cheese's, which was started in 1977 (by the guy who founded Atari), and ShowBiz Pizza Place, founded in 1980.
ShowBiz did rename all its locations to Chuck E. Cheese, but that was because Chuck E. Cheese filed for bankruptcy in 1984 and was purchased by ShowBiz.
storm_the_castle@reddit
CEC existed before SB and SB slowly got rolled into CEC.
RetiredPoPo10-8@reddit
I just posted the link from Chuck E Cheese's website you fucking moron! I guess im dreaming that I fucking worked at Chuck E. for 3 years 84-87. Jesus you are an idiot.

You are very wrong. I grew up on the East Coast. We never had a ShowBiz Pizza but we had a Chuck E Cheese sometime in the 70s. We were too poor to go there so I really wanted to go. By the 80s when I had a job and made my own money, they wouldn't let teens in without parents.

I give up. Its like arguing with a 4 year old about if he brushed his teeth before bedtime. Go off to your fantasy land and live in an illusion of your own making.
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
You've been a pig for too long. I don't know what your problem is, honestly. I'm TELLING you that if you worked there at the time you claim, then the place you worked at was called Showbiz pizza... this isn't an alternative reality, it's just a fact. It was NOT called chuck e. Cheese until 1990. Everything ok?
RetiredPoPo10-8@reddit
Your facts are in fantasy. It WAS called Chuck E. Cheese starting in 1977. The company was acquired by Showbiz in 85 but the locations continued to operate under the Chuck E. name, fucktard. And if you want to start calling me names because of my job, you can fuck off.
Lloyds_Voids@reddit (OP)
Pretty sure the FIRST person to call someone a name was you when you called me an idiot. You could've explained this at any point along the way. I get it though, pigs don't like explaining so, no worries.💓😘

MadRhetoric182@reddit
Nah, I always get it back. Every Time.
No_Maintenance_9608@reddit
I miss arcades. Not just for the games, but it was a social meeting place. I don't remember having an Aladdin's Castle where I lived, but games were everywhere whether the local shopping mall, in a drugstore, or one of my favorites at the local miniature golf place. There was a Chuck E. Cheese's but didn't last very long.
wishyouwouldread@reddit
There is one in the town next to me. They have a flat fee to enter for the day. It is pretty nice.

We spent a lot of time and money there, great times and memories!
