So much for professional drivers..
Alive_to_Thrive5@reddit
As long as they're not swerving in my lane I don't care, but with that being said stop swerving over the line!! It's disrespectful.
ThePlagueFriend@reddit
Slow down so we can watch too!
Enigma_x23@reddit
Lol I watch movies, anime series, YouTube, etc. Itās been the better half of a decade doing it, still with a clean mvrš
Antony9991@reddit
It's all good until you're involved in a major accident with deaths and they get you with 20+ years
lord_nuker@reddit
Thatās why you do it at night outside cities, not during daytime/rush hours in the cities
Enigma_x23@reddit
That only happens to ones who get too comfortable.
familyedit@reddit
I've actually put stuff on YouTube where I would take the audio from TV shows and movies and upload it so all you have is basically a long and good audiobook. I also have a podcast where I take descriptive audio from movies and TV shows and I put them out one episode at a time and that makes time go really well.
lord_nuker@reddit
I used to start F1 races on F1TV and put the phone away and just listen on it as a radio broadcast. It sucks that F1TV doesnāt play with the screen turned off on phones
lord_nuker@reddit
Oh well, I have done the same thing when I only drove at night on close to empty highways. Sometimes it could go hours before I meet another car on the road. But yes, when I reached outskirts of cities or drove through them my focus was of course on the environment and the phone was moved away
LucHighwalker@reddit
Seen this while training. I was flabbergasted.
Historical_Pea4942@reddit
THIS is why I have a privacy screen on my device so nobody can see what Iām doing in my truck because people are just way too nosy.
Iāve played plenty of movies/shows while driving with my eyes looking straight on the road. It makes driving a lot less stressful, time flies and It keeps me awake.
brandmonkey@reddit
I keep Twitch up watching political streamers. I don't pay attention but I listen.
Northeastyungin@reddit
You recording with a phone in your hand just to post something on Redditš¤¦āāļø. You just as wrong
TyrannicalKitty@reddit
Wouldn't OP be in the passenger seat to record someone on the right side in their driver seat?
Leading_Strategy_627@reddit (OP)
Yahtzee!
jmzstl@reddit
OP is recording from the driverās seat, holding the phone over the center of the truck at best. You can see the empty passenger seat.
TyrannicalKitty@reddit
Oh, alright DOT officer, whack OPs peepee!
Gotsnuffy@reddit
Recording while driving is probably significantly worse than what the other guy is doing lmao

I wouldn't say it's exactly the same thing. OP is distracted for 4 seconds, Amazon is distracted for 2 hours.
jinkeeez@reddit
Noviceā¦should have a privacy screen on his phone
Niko120@reddit
This is like half the drivers I pass at night
tantric_tongue69@reddit
To be fair, night driving is one of the most dangerous. Driving hypnosis is a real thing and not saying what the driver doing is good, but it's mental activity that keeps one engaged.
I have a CDL and drive with video on to hear the background. Don't need to see a movie I've already seen. It helps pass the time since you know the pacing of the movie.
Junior-Credit2685@reddit
Yes my last resort as a night driver is Tiktok in the phone holder, screen turned down, covered with a beanie. Iām not watching it, just flipping through to hear the different subjects. If that doesnāt work, then itās naptime. I have coworkers that watch movies, though.
jinkeeez@reddit
Noviceā¦.should have a privacy screen on his phone
tyoung89@reddit
Iām a semi truck driver, and I listen to audiobooks. If something happens, and thereās an accident, I donāt want any history of video being played on my device. That sounds like a great way for it to go from an accident thatās not my fault, to it being 100% my fault and jail time. Never have video playing on your device.
DukeBradford2@reddit
This. Also play the license plate game or put on an podcast and argue with the hosts/guests. They may have a phd or decades of expertise in their field but I am louder and thats who decides who is right
Jina-langu-ni-Juma@reddit
What the hell are you drivings trucks for? Thats pretty much what politicians do. You can even drink Fireball in the morning.
Gotsnuffy@reddit
I pay for YouTube premium specifically so I can listen to videos in the background with the phone closed.
tyoung89@reddit
I do too. Im still worried DOT would just see in the phone telematics that YouTube or something else is playing.
KilljoyTheTrucker@reddit
You can play podcast videos from the yYouTube music app.
Well practically any video actually.
tantric_tongue69@reddit
I honestly am more worried about the car drivers being on their phones than CDL drivers any day
Dabstronaut@reddit
I have defaulted to YouTube documentaries driving at night with a few caveats. My phone is mounted to my right on the windshield next to my gps. I never glance for more than a second or two every 10-15 seconds while driving. I also never watch video with my phone in landscape I always do Picture in Picture with my phone vertical, and I have privacy glass so at night passing vehicles wouldnāt be able to see my screen anyways. And lastly, obviously I would only ever do this out of any major cities out on the open highway in minimum traffic. IMO itās safer to keep your brain engaged than risking sleep hypnosis, which even audiobooks and podcasts will give me. That little bit of visual stimulation helps A LOT.
Hot_Pianist_2239@reddit
Not a truck driver (yet), but definitely use this as a tool on large trips like moving. I donāt actually watch it either. What would be the likelihood of doing this and not receiving punishment in a company truck?
Suitable_Detective_2@reddit
If in a accident and they find that you have been watching a movie in a major accident better believe your going to jail for a long time. Try a podcast.
Antony9991@reddit
This 100%. There was this trucker who received 20+ years for causing a major accident with multiple deaths who was caught watching TikTok videos
Hot_Pianist_2239@reddit
Agreed. Thank you!
giftedbutloco@reddit
Listen to mrballen
Gotsnuffy@reddit
Duuuuuuuude yesssssss Iāve binged all his videos sooooo good especially for just audio only listening.
Limp_Experience6551@reddit
Not a trucker but have done lots of road trips where I keep falling asleep hugging the rumble strips, having TV playing was the only way I could stay awake and alert on the road. For context I'm mostly watching the road
Late-Statistician690@reddit
This!

Pfff amateur, I saw a dude playing solitaire on a laptop while drivingā¦. I wouldnāt be surprised if someone plays turn based games while driving.

I mean if heās straight NOT taking his eyes off of the screen then thatās one thing but if dude glances at the movie from time to time I honestly donāt see a problem with it. Iām more against the idea of ācatching somebodyā and making them looking like they arenāt worthy of being a ātruckerā lol at that term evenā¦.. whiney fcking world we live in⦠Go ahead and hit me with a million safety comments. I drove for an Amazon Freight Partner, and got dinged on "distracted driving" when I freaking sneezed. Had 22 points in their system. Went to another company with the same system, had zero points after 6 months.
How in the hell is he getting away with this?
Hamhockthegizzard@reddit
He has it on his dash so that the eye tracker doesnāt see him being ādistractedā I bet. Quick glances and it thinks heās looking at his gauges I bet
Deadbeatdone@reddit
Couldn't you fix this with some sunglasses?

I have Youtube premium and have my screen off. I spoke with my company's lawyer and he said if a wreck was to occur and they looked at my phone telemetry that they can see if the screen was on or not. So I'm good as long as my screen is off.
Btomesch@reddit
Still drives better than most 4wheelers I bet. But how they do this without those Amazon cameras catching them in the act?

Had a route from Dallas to Blythe for a few weeks. Watched the better call Saul every night driving through the desert. This was during Covid, I would see a car every 45 mins to an hour.
Royal_Amount5114@reddit
Professional drivers my ass.
oasuke@reddit
I hope he realizes they have AI cameras on the side of the road that specifically looks for people watching stuff on their phones. They are those orange things on wheels, usually near weigh stations.
RebelTvshka@reddit
Eh. I'm more concerned and the guys that don't pull over for a nap when they're tired.
Sea-Count-5298@reddit

I ran team once with a German who watched gay porn while listening to techno music when driving.
I really wish that was fake lol. He had a small laptop attached to the sun visor. Had a strobe light in the cab too.
Needless to say as soon as we got back from that run I told my boss "nope, never again".
JRAlpharius@reddit

Dangerous_Walk9239@reddit

Chaddie_D@reddit
Better than porn... or is it?
ArtisticAd9404@reddit
I see this way too often. Quite common to see football games on someoneās dash as I pass by.
Specific_Effort_5528@reddit
Why not just listen to the game? It's not like you can pay attention any better to the screen vs the road. Aside from the obvious, it just seems like a pointless idea.
RebelTvshka@reddit
You don't need to watch it the whole time. A glance here and there, it keeps your mind engaged instead of wandering or shutting down out of boredom.
ArtisticAd9404@reddit
I donāt expect these drivers to use very much logic.
forkystabbyveggie@reddit
At least it isn't a 50 year old middle eastern man watching anime porn.

Monsterarmy3271@reddit
I feel safer on the road with the guy having a screen playing on the dash than I do with the guy holding the phone who has to look at, navigate apps to open what he needs and then aim it towards the other rig to record.
Virel_360@reddit
Exactly, holding a cell phone like that, trying to record somebody while paying attention to the road and drive at the same time totally not safe.
AdagioEducational124@reddit
Who TF watches movies while driving a semi truck??
TDOTBRO@reddit
Many truckers do this on the Toronto highways. Either movies or theyāre on FaceTime.
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
Halton busted one last week put it on their Twitter
TDOTBRO@reddit
For many of these drivers, driving the truck is usually 4th or 5th on the list of importance
MikeBinfinity@reddit
I see dozens of drivers every night doing this, from damn near every carrier.
polarjunkie@reddit
To be fair, he could just be listening to it but you on the other hand have your phone in your hand and you're filming.
Fli_fo@reddit
Having a video on doesn't mean one is watching it.
I've listened to many youtube documentaries this way. Wasn't interesting in looking at the screen at all. But it was on my dash.
Where I live that's not illegal.
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
In America, and Canada having a screen playing a video implies that you're on it, dividing your attention from the job. You'll be hard pressed to make that argument with a judge.
Fli_fo@reddit
Where I live it's not explicitly forbidden in the law, but I see now that most officers see it as a dangerous situation and can give a fine for that.
So all in all it's risky to have a video playing on the dash.
It's too bad that rules are made for the people who can't enjoy things while keeping it safe.
RecentRegal@reddit
So put it on the seat next to you. Why have it directly in your eye-line if youāre not watching!?
JobSafe2686@reddit
Nun wrong with that

My trainer did this. Never listened to music or podcasts or anything. Just put on fucking Marvel movies.
Quelix_@reddit
I mean, tbf, I've done this but there are a few caveats. First, my phone is sitting in my cup holder with GPS as my primary and the movie as tiny as possible. Second, i only do this with movies I've seen so many times that i can not only quote the movie but also tell you how the characters are dressed and what they are doing. Third, because of the first 2 requirements, I'm not actually watching the movie, I'm listening to it with the movie playing in my head.
