What hobbies have you had to give up due to all the cost increases?

I really don't get why some people are mentioning this? Shouldn't that be in a thread about what esssentials you've had to give up or reduce? IMHO, perhaps the only way you can class eating as a hobby is if you're actually a cooking enthusiast who likes trying new recipes, or even takes cookery lessons. It has to involve some conscious effort to seek out and buy interesting food and/or some level of actual food preparation in the kitchen. Otherwise you're just consuming some thing(s) made by someone else. Even if you like trying restaurants/other food outlets to eat out in or having picnics in summer, that's surely (usually), essentially more of a social activity? I used to like the annual summer picnic in Richmond Park organised through an online forum (sadly almost certainly ended by Covid/declining interest), that was basically a big social event where everyone brought food and drink. But I am very firmly eat to live, NOT the other way around. I tend to view eating as a tiresome chore, more than anything else. Reading a good book or whatever, is far more interesting. I could theoretically cook new recipes for the sake of variety, don't think I have much talent for it. IMO the modern world has become far too food-centric :) A lot of the modern marketing language on food products and so on, really gets on my nerves. I always try and stick to products with a plain description, where the product is just what it says on the tin. I see appreciating good food as a by product of eating to live, NOT as an end in itself. Hate the idea of eating out in any kind of restaurant (social anxiety or whatever it is, paranoia about hygiene, etc), thankfully I never have to do it any more. Maybe that would be a bit different if I could still go abroad though, don't know. Cafes or pubs are different. A food truck would be tolerable, don't think I've ever seen one.

Well social anxiety (maybe something else, possibly generalised anxiety, since I was actually diagnosed as NOT having social anxiety, many years ago), has basically limited my life to the point where I have no social life any more. At all. Very sad. Back in the late 2000s, I went to many gatherings organised through a social anxiety forum. It often worked out quite expensive, but worth it. If I'd kept on regularly going to as many gatherings, might really have got some new friends out of it. Before the gatherings declined. Today, that gathering scene is sadly virtually dead, rare exceptions. Maybe their chatroom still does a few more. There used to be lots of events, at least in some parts of the country. But in the 2010s, I almost entirely only went to the annual picnic, at least in most years up to 2018 (the 2019 one was cancelled, then Covid ended it after the 2020 one which was too unsafe for me). Hard to say exactly why. Money was certainly part of it, got switched to other things instead. Perhaps that was foolish, I could possibly have kept the gatherings up anyway. Maybe a bigger factor was drinking too much in private, sapping my energy for going out. So I have no social activities to give up, any more. I should have carried on ice skating and swimming, both common things for me in the 1990s, the trouble is they were nearly always solitary activities. Cost a bit of money as well. Writing fanfiction online would be a free hobby (apart from the internet connection), if I could ever really get round to it any more. I haven't had a library card for many years, though used to use their dirt-cheap sales of withdrawn books/CDs/DVDs. Most books I buy are pretty cheap, but reading novels is also extremely tough now, factual books are easy. Trying to learn Spanish from books has the same issue, even though I have a degree in German. Don't know where I used to find the energy/motivation/time to do so much stuff :( Playing older video games on numerous consoles, is somewhat easier and pretty cheap. CDs or tapes are usually cheap, if I even care about music any more. DVDs are mostly cheap, but, again, motivational issues. I could just head out onto the pavement on my rollerboots or rollerblades, into the park, if (questionable) my muscles and fitness are still good enough. But maybe still drinking too much (don't know whether I really do)/having no social life, makes it hard to do anything else. So no, I haven't given anything up.
