Are there pros/cons for steel/aluminum case aside from some ranges not allowing their use?

Steel case is minutely harder on your extractor, but the price difference over the thousands and thousands of rounds it’ll take for you to wear out an extractor will more than pay for it. Another “con” for steel or aluminum is that you can’t reload it (which is typically why ranges won’t let people shoot it, because they sell their casings to reloaders and don’t want to sort it).
A con specific to aluminum is that it’s not really recommended to run in PCCs because they might sheer the end of the casing off.
A pro of steel is that if you have to police your own casings after shooting, you can use a magnet stick which makes it a lot faster.

Maybe if you happen to catch the ends or have a super strong mag stick (or mine just sucks), but shotgun primers are also a decent amount bigger than pistol primers. But with steel case I just pass the stick over the top and it grabs them all whichever way they are oriented

quick google, but its just not good for your gun in the long run. steel is abrasive and not as malleable so can over time foul your bore grooves. dirty ammo. youll have to clean more often and if you have something really nice youre using it with will probably need to make sure everything is functional.

This stuff is zinc coated. So not more abrasive. Steel is harder than brass yes, so minutely harder on your extractor and the cost savings of steel case over the life of an extractor will more than pay for the replacement times over. Slightly dirtier sure, because it doesn’t deform as much to seal like brass, but I personally clean my guns after every range trip and a lot of the typical range ammos are “dirty” so not really a concern either. For context, I have over 12k rounds through my p10c, with the majority of it this stuff (monarch steel case from academy same same) and no problems or breakages. If we assign a discount of just 2cpr over those 8000+ rounds, I’ve saved over $160 and a replacement extractor is about $30.

Just because the case is steel doesn't mean the ammo is inherently dirtier. It's rougher on your extractor, that's about it.

Seeing 89.99$, 49$ and .19cpr drives me up the wall. Not to go off on a rant, but these people SEE the proper usage and placement, and still actively go out of their way to do it wrong.

I bought a box of some steel cased Tulammo .38 Special that I thought was cool to have.
I shot 6 rounds of it and every single one got stuck in each cylinder after firing. The other 42 rounds left in the box will 100% be buried along with my sealed spam can of steel cases Barnual .223 ammo, just for fun.

Between steel not expanding, rough exterior, and issues like lacquer heating up on a hot chamber/cylinder sounds like a box of headache or malfunction practice in the making.

I bought from them maybe a month ago and had a bad experience. They provided a tracking number a couple days after buying. Nine days after that UPS still didn’t have it. I contacted them and they said one of my items was out of stock. I selected a new item, which they promptly confirmed, and said it would be shipped next day. A week later UPS still didn’t have it. The day I was going to initiate a chargeback UPS gets it. Naturally the box comes completely fucked up and they didn’t include my replacement item.

Shipping was $80 for 2k rounds which put it at 18 cpr before tax. This works out to be about the same as the Monarch steel from Academy, especially since they're still running the 5% and 10% off deal which stacks with the 5% Academy CC.
