Looks amazing for the segment. Super impressed with Nissan's design language lately.
Skeptical0ptimist@reddit
I would like to see the new designs in custom paint jobs that mimics pixelated textures reminiscent of low polygon count 3D models of early day texture mapping games, like Descent.
zlomky@reddit
I'm into it
Repulsive-Club7866@reddit
Can’t wait to see the Infiniti version which will be the next gen QX50
Intrepid-Working-731@reddit
They need it desperately
Bella_Mia_@reddit
They do the compact SUV segment is very important for automakers especially for luxury brands
Wolfo93@reddit
Not feeling it, facelifted Qashqai is a stuff from nightmares. Just oversylised mess
rugbyj@reddit
Yeah this is 100% the current Qashqai (not bad) but with a big joker smile.
lael8u@reddit
Agree but this looks better.
SamsungAppleOnePlus@reddit
So let me get this straight
We have the 2026 (“2026.5”) gas powered Rogue, the 2026 Rogue Plug-In Hybrid that’s a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander with the cramped third row, and the 2027 Rogue Hybrid all being sold at the same time?
Guessing it’ll move to just the new Rogue Hybrid and eventual gas variant but the stopgap they’re at right now is pretty funny.
diethyl2o@reddit
You could say they’ve gone… rogue. Sorry, I’ll show myself out.
Habibi_Papi@reddit
Got off safari into the app just to upvote this comment.
Ok-Response-839@reddit
No, this is a refresh of the current model which is sold with both gas and e-Power variants globally. The difference is that with this refresh, the e-Power variant is also coming to the USA.
It is weird that they have are advertising the rebadged Outlander PHEV as a Rogue though. I don't understand that at all.
SamsungAppleOnePlus@reddit
Seems like we’re only getting the e-Powervariant in 2027 from the info in this article, and our current gas Rogue is being sold longer until we also get the gas model?
Ok-Response-839@reddit
Ah sorry I see what you mean. Yeah I think they are calling it a new generation, but it's pretty much the same car and still comes with the same 2.5L as an option. So it's not like they will continue to manufacture the current Rogue; the new one has both engine options.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
The 2.5L I4 hasn't been in the Rogue since MY2021. Since MY2022, it's been a turbo 1.5L I3.
Ok-Response-839@reddit
Damn, sucks for you guys! Thankfully the dual motor e-Power powertrain is really good.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
I mean, I guess? The 1.5L I3 is a troublesome powertrain from what I understand, but I don't think anyone in this sub is going out of their way to buy one, including me. I have no interest in a vehicle like the Rogue. But it is good news that we're finally getting the hybrid drivetrain here.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
They portably think Rouge meaning a compact crossover in all. Remember "Rouge Sport" in the new car market before ? That was Qashqai name in North America.
degggendorf@reddit
Does "e-power" mean beyond simply "HEV"?
rhunter99@reddit
The hybrid is so egregious. Like couldn’t they have redesigned those awful bumper lights?
SamsungAppleOnePlus@reddit
They basically just put the Nissan badge on it, like none of the “Mitsubishi” touches were changed. Same styling, same shifter, same steering wheel, so on.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit
I know that they will probably use their 1.5L 3-cylinder engine for this, but I really hope they wouldn't.
The 3-cylinder engine was recalled twice (once in 2025 and 2026) for faulty bearings. I think they should just stick with their tried and true 2.5L NA 4-cylinder instead. Especially in hybrid form, I think it would be a great competitor for Toyota's own 2.5L hybrids.
BlueKnight44@reddit (OP)
The new Qashqai which I think has the same power train is different. It is a 1.5L turbo, but no variable compression. The VC is the problem with the current ICE engines, so these should be fine.
MotelSans17@reddit
The variable compression shouldn't be needed for a serial hybrid like this and I seriously hope they don't include it.
Still would prefer a NA engine though. Toyota managed to avoid the tiny turbo engine silliness by going all in on hybrids.
Then again... All this complexity seems so silly when pure BEVs exist... But I digress.
BlueKnight44@reddit (OP)
Turbos are extremely thermally efficient. So having a turbo on an engine that is only a generator is not a bad idea.
The Qashqai e-power engine is extremely simple. No variable valve timing or anything. Only real complexity is the turbo since the operating range is low.
sinkrate@reddit
The irl gas mileage on the 1.5 Rogue is ass, probably the worst in its class
kyonkun_denwa@reddit
It's a shame because I really like 3-cylinders. The growl is so fun. But BMW is pretty much the only company to make a reliable, modern 3 cylinder engine that makes decent power (B38)
Redeemed_Expert9694@reddit
There isn't much room for error at Nissan. This new Rogue must succeed
CaptSlow49@reddit
Kind of interesting how once Nissan is facing bankruptcy they finally start producing cars people would consider buying (yes I know they had stuff they sold decently well). But like, how does a company go from a good brand to a terrible one and then finally be like “why don’t we make a good product” and then go do it?
Bella_Mia_@reddit
Same thing happened to GM they started making good products like the Pontiac g8 and the GMT900 trucks and then went bankrupt
pridetwo@reddit
New CEO as of 2025, maybe he's got some good ideas
HeyyyyListennnnnn@reddit
2025 is too late to have a big impact on a 2027 model. The design would have mostly been locked down and they would have been well into production validation at that point.
Espinosa's plan for 2025 was basically just cost reduction. His impact on product strategy has a target finish date of 2035, with the new Skyline and Qashqai replacement as the first models to be developed under this umbrella.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
That was how Ghosn done in Nissan before. Don't forget that this isn't Nissan firstly facing bankruptcy, it did happen in early 00's.
HeyyyyListennnnnn@reddit
To Ghosn's credit, it worked for a time. He just overstayed his usefulness and his strategic decisions ended up undoing his initial success. By the end, he held too much power in the Alliance which is probably why the financial shenanigans eventually leading to his arrest started. Nissan should have given him a golden handshake and have him retire on top in the early 2010's.
CaptSlow49@reddit
Maybe he’ll give the buyers what they want, another Murano convertible
pridetwo@reddit
Ahem, it was a CrossCabriolet not some pedestrian convertible
degggendorf@reddit
I think it is a pedestrian convertible....so awful you'd rather walk.
Redeemed_Expert9694@reddit
Nissan is strongest when their back is against the wall, and I'd say we're already seeing the improvements.
The Frontier and Armada are probably the most reliable options in their segments, the Sentra is a solid little car that won't be humiliated by the rival compacts, and the Pathfinder has somehow snaked it way to the top of its class.
This new Rogue needs to keep that momentum going.
MildlyUnusualName@reddit
Long term strategy versus CEO musical chair pump and dump short term schemes
dissss0@reddit
E-Power just isn't as good as the other hybrid systems - sure it drives nicely but it's just too thirsty
andrewia@reddit
Nissan has always had sharp, good exteriors and it looks like this continues the trend. I wish we could see the interior, but if it follows the Sentra, it will be high quality and modern while keeping around good physical buttons. I'm also optimistic about reliability; Nissan hasn't had major issues in the past few years, and this new powertrain isn't too different from their existing ones. I'm curious to see the dimensions because new "compact" crossovers have midsize footprints, meaning they're less usable for dense cities like SF, Seattle, Boston, Miami, etc (not to mention older garages and parking lots).
tfox245@reddit
I agree about Nissans exterior designs lately. Unfortunately their variable compression turbo engines are a mess, they recalled 650,000 rogues with them due to overheating oil and engine failures. Hopefully this new powertrain is more reliable.
icecream_specialist@reddit
When those were first covered in the media I think many of us agreed, very cool technology but no way it'll be robust/reliable
3rdreprieve@reddit
I think that sort of thing would be fantastic in one of their sports cars or upper-end sports sedans if they refined it a little.
icecream_specialist@reddit
The problem is refining it for a small volume car would likely be a financial strain. Honestly this type of tech is something companies like Ferrari could pull off in a sports car. Something already expensive, something that already has expected regular and expensive service, and something that is really pushing the margins.
Angry_Homer@reddit
The interior on the current rouge is surprisingly nice. Better than the CX5 if that's built anything like the mazda3. Shame about the powertrain on 'em.
familyguy20@reddit
Glad they are finally bringing their global powertrains to the US, wish more companies did that. Never understood why there was such a difference between US and worldwide when it comes to model offerings.
Really interesting how these new CUV hybrids are popping up now, they will sell really well.
BlueKnight44@reddit (OP)
USA driving is different than most of the world. More driving in general and way more highway than almost anywhere. Also, relatively cheap gas means advanced power trains are not necessarily needed or appropriated by Americans.
tman2damax11@reddit
Nissan went from a "would never recommend" 10 years ago, to being pretty decent in the last few years.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
If that were easy to fix brand reputation, Detroit should've fixed already. GM does have some decent econoboxes, but many car buyers still don't believe that.
mumbo1134@reddit
Many car buyers vastly oversimplify to "good vehicle vs bad vehicle" and worse, "good brand vs bad brand". Nuances of minor inconvenient issues vs catastrophic failure, or the concept of QC do not enter most people's mind. People will continue to praise and recommend Amazing Brand A even when they put out cars that have serious issues and try to cover them up, but trash Bad Brand B as being deplorable for following the exact same playbook. It's interesting but annoying.
mumbo1134@reddit
Honda and Toyota have had some CAFE induced pain in the past 10 years. Honda - CVT issues, Turbo/Vehicle mismatches, Quadrupling down on VCM despite all the issues it is obviously causing. Toyota - Grenading Turbo engines. Meanwhile Kia/Hyundai and Nissan have been about as well. I will get flamed for it but honestly think that for any given new vehicle on a new platform, they're all on a level playing field. With the caveat that if you get a Toyota with an underpowered + mature hybrid drivetrain (e.g. Grand Highlander base hybrid, and not the Hybrid Max) you're probably getting a cut above the rest.
Combat_Wombat23@reddit
This + the new LEAF has real potential to dig them out of the hole.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
It hasn't been out long, but the new Leaf hasn't been that much of a sales success (according to C&D).
Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
We want cheap EV mfs when the cheap EV drops (it's too modern/it doesn't have the latest tech/it doesn't go far enough/it's too heavy/it's not Chinese/it's not from a good enough brand/it can't fit 7 adults/it's too big)
DeusFerreus@reddit
The whole problemis that it's not that cheap. Well the base $30k base model is fine, $43k Platinum trim is very much not. And take a guess which one Nissan flooded its dealers with.
Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
Yeah but there's a big difference between "hard to find" and "does not exist and cannot be purchased". The 31kish Nissan Leaf exists (though not in the nice baby blue with the grey interior, that will be 37k) and considering how well Nissan is doing right now, I'm sure that if you want to order the base model, the average dealer is gonna be pretty flexible about it.
TheCudder@reddit
Taking the Lexus spindle grille to new ~~heights~~ widths.
Hugh-Jass24@reddit
Looks kinda like the Hyundai Tucson and Lexus NX had a baby
marrrrell@reddit
I wonder what these will look like with a headlight out and the bumper hanging off
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Just be patient. We'll find out in 2039 or so.
BrownGhost10@reddit
The new range extender powertrain is interesting.
CaptSlow49@reddit
That’s going to be a really great rental car.
DrScience01@reddit
Is Nissan making a comeback? After the merger failing, I thought Nissan couldn't recover from this
WarCrimeGaming@reddit
Curious about this design language going forward. Nothing wrong with it but I wonder if it will follow along the sports cars they’ve been talking about considering to potentially make possibly.
CharlesP2009@reddit
Well it looks like everything else nowadays but I'm glad to see the hybrid tech making its way to the US
