Treasure found at school

This was found in the records room of the counseling center at the school I teach at. I teach history and the final unit covers political and pop culture of the 70s through the present. I have a new, working, prop for my 80s lesson. I even found the D batteries and some blank tapes to demonstrate with.
Agreeable_Argument88@reddit
Those are the ones that had a cord but it had to be purchased separately and cost a ton more money but it ate 6 D batteries in 15 minutes
GoodDoctorZ@reddit (OP)
This one still had the box. It says something along the lines of “the power cord is in the battery compartment” on one of the flaps.
NeonLocustX83@reddit
I had the exact same one growing up. They don't make em like they used to. New boom boxes that I've came across nowadays sounds like shit.

😎 COOL

Ah, and I can just hear AC/DC blasting now...oh wait it is. Right now. In my car.

If you’re anywhere near Toronto, I could try to get a cassette or 2 with actual music on it (maybe even taped of the radio) to you
Glittering_Remote898@reddit
As a real exercise, OP could challenge the students to a) find a radio station with a live DJ, b) prepare the blank cassette so the recordable portion is ready, c) wait for one song to end, d) silently scream at the DJ to stop talking over the intro of the song, and e) record a song off the radio.
The struggle was real, folks.

I’m not near Toronto. But I do have some Dr. Demento shows I taped off of the radio many years ago.
Zealot_777@reddit
And it's Sony brand!
keb1965@reddit
I think I had that exact model.
CptBronzeBalls@reddit
Same
twstdbydsn@reddit
pretty sure I owned that bad boy
Western-Calendar-352@reddit
Can you find a way to show them Say Anything as part of the 80s lesson?
Cdn65@reddit
What did your students think of the boom box?
GoodDoctorZ@reddit (OP)
It will be a couple of weeks before I get to that lesson. Have to finish up civil rights first.
Rough-Patience-2435@reddit
Something about "Right to PARTY" might need to be included.
charliefoxtrot9@reddit
the lazer played all night long
HectorsMascara@reddit
I know you know those speakers are detachable.
Neener216@reddit
Better hit the gym so you can lift that sucker high in the air and give those kids a taste of the real vibe!
root_fifth_octave@reddit
Sweet boom box.
Historical_Drink_350@reddit
I had the dual deck version of this. A guy i work with has this one at his desk.
BBorNot@reddit
The dual deck was dope. Take a low fi cassette tape and make an even worse copy of it.
root_fifth_octave@reddit
The way god intended.
cdanew@reddit
I still have the dual deck version!
RascalOScrimp@reddit
There’s a kickstarter for a new on of those. 700 bucks.
Weird-one0926@reddit
Sweet!
inigo_montoya@reddit
Gotta have that equalizer.
DarrenEdwardsVR@reddit
Some kid had this confiscated, only for it to be forgotten.
_WillCAD_@reddit
Did it have a tape in it?
Plenty of good ones on eBay. Try for Michael Jackson's Thriller - it's one of the best albums of the decade.
GoodDoctorZ@reddit (OP)
No tapes included but I have tapes.
Moonsmom181@reddit
I had that one too! I’m so jealous! Can I send you a mix tape?
kanakamaoli@reddit
Why did you take my my radio from onto my microwave 😀
Astronaut6735@reddit
She's a beat, Clark.

Safety Dance incoming!

Duuuuuude!
flagrantstickfoul@reddit
the 80s LOVED an equalizer
Downtown_Anteater_38@reddit
I had that one. I bought it because it had RCA aux inputs so I could connect my DiscMan to it. The speakers also detached, so you could widen the stereo field.
I loved that thing
