What's the reason for the recent 9mm "deals" that seem like bad prices? I can walk into Scheels and get brass 9mm for 24 CPR and I don't really think of Scheels base-pricing to be a great deal. If I lived in Texas still, I could get 20 CPR at Academy right now. Why should I pay 21.5 CPR for aluminum/steel case? Why is this a deal?
Icantdothiskmsnow@reddit
I bought 4k rounds of fiocchi 9mm at my local Scheels. Signed up for the visa card and the points I get for the purchase effectively put the purchase total just below 21 cpr. Pretty banger deal since ammo prices are increasing. My LGS tried to convince me their 29 cpr 9mm was the best deal around due to war inflation...

Rip deal is dead now
SaltyLunch722@reddit
So you admit you can't get 20cpr, you admit your local price is 24cpr, but somehow 21.5 is a "bad price".
I swear the people who shitpost ammo deals are the lowest IQ mouth breathers. Nevermind that every 1 cent per round is a whole $10 per thousand rounds. Have fun with all those $7 taco bell boxes your scrupulous savings are earning. Not like your kids were college material either.
RyAllDaddy69@reddit
Steel case 9mm for more than 20cpr isn’t a deal and hasn’t been since COVID
RyAllDaddy69@reddit
It starts with 1cpr increases, but cents make dollars…
1cpr here and 1cpr there…next thing you know there’s dumbass motherfuckers posting 47cpr 5.56 as a deal.
PapaNoffDeez@reddit
But if all of the other 5.56 is 48c+, is 47 not a deal?
You can't just call something not a deal because you bought it cheaper months ago.
RyAllDaddy69@reddit
If that was the case, then yes…but it’s not, that’s my whole point m.
I did buy 5.56/.223/9mm/300aac months ago…because I buy it every month and at most I’ve spent 45cpr for shit-shooting range stuff, but that was at a Brick and Mortar store that I had to stop at because I accidentally left an ammo can at home.
47cpr is asinine unless you’re too good for Fiochi, Sterling, etc..
Hell, if you were really hard up, steel case can be had for under 40cpr shipped.
Legitimate-Simple-98@reddit
We are calling it not a deal because you can buy better stuff cheaper than this right now. Not months ago
Abject_Egg_194@reddit
I can get steel-case (Monarch) shipped for a lower CPR from Academy. They do 10% off large quantities. If I still lived near an Academy, then I wouldn't have to pay shipping and could get it even cheaper.
Your comment breaks rule 1 and really seems out of place on this sub.
RegardedDipshit@reddit
Then go get it at Academy. Nobody else is coming close to those prices.
Go be a hall monitor somewhere else. Downvote and move on
gearhead5015@reddit
Kettle calling the pot black
RegardedDipshit@reddit
Do you even know what that means? Where did I accuse anyone of breaking rules and go cry to the jannies because i don't like mean words?
gearhead5015@reddit
Apparently you don't.
I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of your statement where you told someone to "downvote and move on" when you could've simply, you know, downvoted and moved.... But, you didn't....
Hence why I quoted that specific line
Legitimate-Simple-98@reddit
Redditors being Redditors and the tolerant being "tolerant" again... classic huh?
RegardedDipshit@reddit
My apologies, I thought you had the basic cognitive abilities to understand foundational conversational logic. My comment obviously implies that rather than being a soft little baby that calls for mods every time you are mildly offended, he should instead be a big boy. Perhaps I should have been more verbose and anticipated that the lowest common denominator would come along and misconstrue the context. That's my bad.
Fragger-3G@reddit
21.5cpr is pretty meh for Aluminum 115gr, especially when Scheels has Blazer Brass 124gr and 147gr for 24CPR.
When the price difference is so little, I'd rather just buy brass.
Trope360@reddit
Blazer Aluminum is great stuff for most pistols, and it's always been about 2cpr cheaper. This is an upgrade over steel, as it's not magnetic so any ranges than ban steel will still let you shoot it. Also, it's going to perform pretty similar to 115gr brass, with the difference being that your overall mag will be lighter if you load to 22-24rds, so your pistols muzzle flip may have a hair difference in ounces if you're at a high level of performance. I mention this as a competitor that ran through 20k rounds of aluminum before I decided, I did notice the difference going to 124gr match ammo for comps, but if you aren't A class+ USPSA running 2k rounds a month in training, I doubt it'll matter (not trying to gatekeep, just saying it's great for casual shooters but competitors may not prefer it).
If I was just plinking, this stuff to save 2-3cpr or $20-30 a case, is solid. Unless you have a finicky pistol, CZ shadow 2 cajunized, 2011 with lightened springs, etc. every once in a while they don't like the aluminum, it's not quite as smooth a case so real tight non-reamed bores may get more stovepipes, but you know who you are if that's a concern. Glock, M&P, Echelon, P10 etc crowd go wild it's just fine.
It's basically the exact same argument as "why should I buy 115gr for 24cpr when I can literally get 147gr for 26.5cpr" and maybe the same feel difference too.
I_SNORT_KITTENS@reddit
It’s been rock solid in both 9mm and .380 for me. I see grumbles about aluminum, but they’re outstanding range rounds.
Trope360@reddit
I know guys that run the 45 and it runs fine in 1911s even. I have run a good 20k+ rounds of this in 9mm, as last time ammo got expensive I stocked it way deep and it's run great. I'd take it over that shit Belom that was posted the other day 100%, even if it was same price but that was 27cpr and people were buying.
Only reason I stopped was I went to a more competition load 124gr low power factor as I'm shooting a lot of matches and trying to get to GM...
FlapperGasfire@reddit
Tiny short-term price increase = fear mongering and "it'll only go up" comments here
Fools who don't buy when it's cheap buy when it's expensive
RegardedDipshit@reddit
And the special needs community of reddit loves to pretend they have functional IQs.
Nearly all name brand ammo everywhere is out of stock or prices extremely high, with the exception of places like Scheels who have more leverage and presumably better contracts with ammo suppliers. Scheels has been the best source of ammo for about two months now. Small/medium ammo retailers are running off of old existing stock and are not getting any of their new orders fulfilled. This has been confirmed by multiple popular online retailers here, as well as a person I personally know in the industry. Nobody is rolling in money while moving almost no volume. They are increasing prices to reflect the drop in supply, and to attempt to keep the lights on until more supply is available.
The reality is that all of the manufacturing supply is being bought up by militaries. The supply largely doesn't exist for consumers at the moment. Big players like Scheels are somehow able to acquire new inventory. Will that be the case tomorrow? In a month? In 3 months? Nobody here knows.
Define expensive, it's a moving target. If you went by this sub's definition of expensive, you would have never bought any ammo over the past year. I stocked up in December/January when everyone in this sub was screaming bloody murder over "expensive" prices. All of those prices would be considered insanely cheap in the current market.
LongoChingo@reddit
So many downvotes from people who didn't stack deep when it was cheap.
GrazingFriar@reddit
Scheels and Academy don't ship to CA =(
PapaNoffDeez@reddit
Unironically, scheels and academy are fucking based right now
It probably has to do with the sheer volume that they buy and when they bought it, and once they start selling the inventory they bought at a higher price, their prices will go up.
I mean.... hopefully not. If Academy can hold the 20cpr every day price for steel case and ~22cpr for brass for eternity then God bless them but I would imagine their costs have gone up the same.
Legitimate-Simple-98@reddit
People love to be fooled by fear and companies love to take the fools money.

Steel or aluminum? Box pictured states aluminum

SKU pulls as Aluminum.
Sil14@reddit
If everyone stopped "fear mongering" and instantly buying literally anything at .20 CPR, the prices would go back down toward normal. Brass used to be .19CPR or better. This should be .17. JUST STOP IMPULSE BUYING and let it ride for a while.
NinjaWaffle1911@reddit

danielgutzzz@reddit
Sku pulls aluminum ? Price error maybe
Legitimate-Simple-98@reddit
Post error...
dkdabber@reddit
Must be an error on the site selling the ammo too
Jason1435@reddit
$0.215 is brass pricing, waiting for $0.22 or $0.20 cpr brass 9mm again 🙏😤
Recent-Honey5564@reddit
Is it worth it for me stash a case of steel away for now despite mostly shooting at indoor ranges that don’t allow it?
Mahlegos@reddit
Do you have an alternative place to shoot it? If not, then no. However, this stuff actually seems to be aluminum case based off others looming up the SKU, which your range might let you shoot because it’s not magnetic.
Recent-Honey5564@reddit
True, I mean yeah on occasion I am able to shoot outdoors at private property.
Mahlegos@reddit
Then yeah I’d grab some (if you can get monarch from academy I’d go that over this though). Nice thing about steel case is you can use a magnet stick to police your casings.
Aerial_Burial_88@reddit
No. You can't shoot it.
hacim99@reddit
If you just want something to throw in the back of your ammo pile sure ammo is going back up id probably pick some up for that price provided shipping is cheap or free
shaneinhisroom@reddit
If you have Academy nearby and you want some upside protection, just buy to pick up, they give you 5 days. If prices haven't gone up in 5 days, just don't pick up, and the order will cancel. Rinse and repeat, one of these days I bet they will raise prices this year.
Huge-Two-3358@reddit
Got Monarch 115 brass for 22.1 cpr, which for me is better than these steel-cased rounds, so if you have an academy, I would start there because this price seems high, even considering the shortage.
