How many of you remember learning about SMB1's "Minus World" when you originally played it on the NES? (via Nintendo Power, word of mouth, etc)

Fred Savage taught me about a warp whistle once.

Did it by accident

I remember hearing rumors, even seeing it in guides, but I was never able to make it work.
But I witnessed a friend stumble across Small Fire Mario accidentally back in the day, and even did it once myself, and I never saw that in any guide or rumor. It turns out to be a little easier than I'd imaginef at the time.

Holy crap, I thought that small fire Mario was a figment of my imagination! I guess that glitch doesn't get as much attention as minus world does, because your post is the first time I heard about it since the late 80s.

How many of you warped to level 6-9?

Love this!

This one I knew about by word of mouth. There was another rumor about a hidden chocolate level though… that one I’m assuming was made up.

I could never pull it off the trick in 1-2

Schoolyard rumor. And they made up so much crap about it. When I couldn't pull off the glitch I thought it was all crap.
Btw Kosmic is a good youtuber. His videos are clean so I can watch them with my kids!

It was in Nintendo Power magazine as well.
I was never able to get to it.

I thought I was in a speed running sub when I saw this thumbnail.

I remember when this, plus the "secret worlds" bug in the original Metroid (where you get stuck in a door and use the morph ball to push yourself up during jumps, and the game loading junk data as a "hidden" world), was pushed as a "secret" in Nintendo Power when it's really just goofy game bugs.

I swear this wasn’t possible on the Duck Hunt cart.

It's a clipping bug in the SMB1 code which works in pretty much all versions of SMB1 including the version that shipped with Duck Hunt. Source: I had the Duck Hunt cart and got to it based on word-of-mouth from someone who learned about it via Nintendo Power

I followed the Nintendo Power guide as well and could never get it to work. Skill issue I guess.
