In early 2000s the company I worked for was trying to install equipment at Best Buy headquarters and the network was so bad we had to postpone.

It's pretty clear this is a sticker that's been moved around a good bit: monitors weren't in that form factor in 1999.
I spent the dreaded transition doing my best to get laid on Bourbon St, NOLA, before the BCS championship game.
Had to throw away those shoes and jeans when I got back home.

That’s because countless engineers worked crazy hours making sure everything was updated in time. Many, many companies had internal systems that were originally coded to use two-digit years, especially the ancient mainframes that were still powering critical financial and air traffic data.

I had a summer gig job on a military installation, running scenarios on software to make sure personnel records didn't get completely fucked over by Y2K. At the time, it was very high paying ($15/hr, in 1999).
