Diesel Prices

Hi all, interested in what you all are doing to conserve fuel, etc. These prices are knocking me into the red and I can't think of what else to do besides 0 idle time, run cruise control, run slightly higher tire pressure..I can't pass the cost onto a buisness, I'm paid/reimbursed by mile.

If you’re only reimbursed by the mile and have no fuel markups, idk how you’re going to survive

Im just a sub paid by the mile that has to pay for fuel out of pocket. Its thier trucks I put fuel in. My region went up $2.00 a gallon already and its only going to get worse. The routes I get sent are crap, so the mileage is inconsistent and getting worse by the week.
BrattySubSam@reddit
Let me get this straight:
The company you drive for - 1099, I assume - owns the trucks and can’t be fucked to pay fuel?
What are you reimbursed per mile?
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Averages out(under these new price to currently be about 18% per load(used to be 23%) or $.72cpm.
BrattySubSam@reddit
My dude, you’re getting the shaft. Time to find new employment

This isnt the greatest market...
deafening_silence33@reddit
That's not an excuse, bro. Your current job is costing you money. That's back asswards. I'd rather have no income than operate in the red just to have a job.

My neighbor is a company driver , He gets 20% of the gross to the truck , he does not pay for Anything .
You’re getting royally royally screwed .
I’m guessing this is a Chicago based company, or run by foreigners / Russians etc ?
You need to find a job as a company driver tomorrow !
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
This is the 2nd time I've heard this lol. I promise ill look tonight!
navlgazer9@reddit
My nephew drives for a local Flatbed company,
Their drivers get paid $1,700 a week , or 25% of the gross to The truck , whichever is higher .
I bet You can Make More driving a school bus than what you’re making now if you’re buying the fuel .
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Probably :(
The company i am driving for doesn't surcharge for fuel, so I dont get that cut.
navlgazer9@reddit
Yeah You should be getting closer To 50% of the gross If You’re buying fuel .
In a couple Of weeks You’re gonna be paying them to drive their truck .

Im looking into hot shotting with my personal truck in the mean time.

Typically people are supposed to slow down, but for some reason as soon as someone tries to pass someone trying to save fuel they speed up. Their pride is apparently more expensive than diesel.
TimothyLux@reddit
Can you renegotiate? Do you have a contact? Otherwise you need to just quit.
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Its a contract that I can leave, but is renegotiated every 3 years. Like a union contract that increases a set amount every year, but absolutely not enough to cover this.
up3r@reddit
This won't be over before Labor Day probably. This is a massive global disruption, massive.
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I served for 10yrs in OIF/OEF, this whole thing is upsetting and frustrating.
fuelstationguy@reddit
Make sure you are taking advantage of fuel discounts... I.E. Fuel cards, truck stop programs, or Mudflap, Open Roads, etc. I know that only helps a little. We just need prices to come back down.
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Just downloaded mudflap! Gonna check it out! I appreciate your thoughts.
fuelstationguy@reddit
You're welcome!
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Looks like(for me) its around 25 cents per gallon, that adds up fast! That's groceries!
dank_memes_911@reddit
Try 10 4 by WEX as well. Pretty similar discounts to Mudflap, but no fee to use a credit card.
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
Most apps let you submit a recipt, is this not the case for mudflap?
deezkeys098@reddit
Get you a gas powered generator and chain it to your catwalk get an ac unit from Walmart and a rv rated extension cord. That will keep you from idling and cheaper than diesel
Stunning-Ad5674@reddit (OP)
This, this is the chin scratcher...imma head to walmart
FloppyTacoflaps@reddit
If you don't have a fuel surcharge or adjustable rate you don't survive
