Wait... your parent's replied to you?
Hefty_Debt_638@reddit
Ugh. Right in my heart 💔
Soulwaxed@reddit
🤣 I was thinking the same thing!
RebelSoul5@reddit
“I’ll give you something to cry about!”
Me: 😭😭 I’m already crying! I don’t need a reason!”
Dad:
Me: OK OK OK!! I’m good. Let’s just … let’s all just calm down, K?
Hefty_Debt_638@reddit
Right?? Like God forbid we feel sad about anything!
ONROSREPUS@reddit
My wife says I have the emotions of a rock. For some reason that doesn't bother me.
Hefty_Debt_638@reddit
The armor is strong with you, I see.
MaddyKet@reddit
And now these boomers wonder why we aren’t showing any emotions around them. 🙄
Hefty_Debt_638@reddit
10000%!! I was just talking with my dad the other day and he said “I wished you kids came to me more.” We were talking about struggles, more specifically depression. I was like “what?!?” Why would we go to you when you shamed us for being anything other than happy!
SatanicPanic619@reddit
As I child did you ever say "life's not fair" when your parents were complaining about something?
Always a good time except for the part where you get yelled at
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Worked like a charm!
mimtma@reddit
Yep
SatanicPanic619@reddit
Such a stupid statement though. Yes, life is not fair. That's not an excuse for refusing to be fair.
As a child I could see through this.
one_bean_hahahaha@reddit
Seriously. Like, yes, life is unfair. So what are you going to do about it?
SatanicPanic619@reddit
Right? It's a deflection by people who don't want to hold themselves accountable
jeepster61615@reddit
This
GaiaIsaHarshMistress@reddit
I tell my kids "I'll always try to be fair. You should try to be fair. You should never expect anything in life to be fair".
SatanicPanic619@reddit
I think that's fair
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
It's a good lesson to learn. I now know that when something unfair happens that whining about it won't do anything.
SpinningHead@reddit
Yeah but boomers like to use this only when the unfairness favors them

My mom would sing it. Still here the "life's not fair" tune
mr_oof@reddit
“… and then you die.”
Paperbackpixie@reddit
Both of my parents said fair was something that came around in October
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Ours was in July. Heard that same comment.
Paperbackpixie@reddit
Ahh nice
gingerthetrailpup@reddit
I say that to kids now and they tell me I am mean 😂🤣
Bright-Form730@reddit
I used to say “ life sucks!” a lot. My mother would just say “yes it does”. 🤣
Hefty_Debt_638@reddit
Suck it up!!! -my father
Sector__7@reddit
You missed a word.
Suck it up buttercup!
islandcatman@reddit
I got suck it the f'k up. I thought it was that word missing.
Resident-Fox6758@reddit
My high school counselor told me this many times
Astronaut6735@reddit
It was always posed as a question to us: "Who ever told you life was fair?!"
SatanicPanic619@reddit
My response was - no one. Why are you not being fair?
I didn't have the words for it, but even as a kid I could tell a motte-and-bailey when I heard one
Practical_Corgi7228@reddit
If I told them something good I did, I got asked, "Do you want a cookie?" 🍪
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
I would too, and I would reply. "Uh, yeah."
RespondOpposite@reddit
It’s true though. Harsh truth is worth learning early.
islandcatman@reddit
Your parents and health teacher were just dispensing knowledge as they should. They are not wrong. All kids should learn that. What is fair, anyways. There is justice and chance. What would make it fair? It's a comparative word, we can only be ourselves.
Aggressive_Power_471@reddit
oh I tell my kids this unapologetically. they are 11 and 5. they need to hear this now.
Illustri-aus@reddit
But it's the truth!
MaddyKet@reddit
“It’s not fair you let sibling do xyz or get away with xyz”
WE AREN’T TALKING ABOUT SIBLING, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU.
How to build resentment between your children in one easy sentence. 😐
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
My dad had a whole persona that he'd do to make fun of me if I felt sorry for myself..."OOOOOHHHH poor widdle thing!! Boo hoo..."
God I hated that as a kid, and now I'm SO glad he stuffed life's realities into me early.
Impressive-Yak-7449@reddit
TheBeardedMayhem@reddit
My favorite teacher's saying in junior high was "Life's tough, times are hard" - he was being a smart ass and saying quit whining
Substantial_Net9923@reddit
Love the font...Anger is a gift
geekgirly@reddit
"Life isn't always fair" is the EXACT thing my dad used to say to me.
Illustrious-Figbars@reddit
Unless you grew up in my house and the response would be “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”
HintonBE@reddit
"Well, who says life is fair? Where is that written?"
zapatocaviar@reddit
My mom, who is great, would literally say “stop feeling sorry for yourself.”
And she loves me.
CromulentPoint@reddit
Let’s not act like kids don’t still hear that harsh truth. But, if it’s true that they don’t, it’s our fault.
I know my daughter heard it, so I’m doing my part.
SecondToLastOfSheila@reddit
"Tough tiddy" said the kitty when the milk ran dry - My Dad.
CrabbyOldster78@reddit
I’m both GenX and a middle child so this is basically my life’s mantra 🤣😭
SweaterSteve1966@reddit
Are you crying? I’ll give you something to cry about. - I heard this, as a middle child, at least 1,000 times. Btw I was never crying.
fleetiebelle@reddit
I recently saw a video from a generally likable creator who said that her kid wouldn't eat some kind of food that they liked because it came in different packaging, so she was driving around town and scanning the internet to find the food in the old packaging. My first thought was that my parents, loving as they were, would just not do that. You eat what we have, or you don't eat. My dad would often joke that while our opinions have been noted, the family is not a democracy.
mden1974@reddit
I always tell everyone that it’s 95 percent a democracy
Sensitive_Diamond328@reddit
"A fair is an English carnival" - my father
Hefty_Debt_638@reddit
SUCH a dad thing to say.
Sensitive_Diamond328@reddit
Oh my dad has the whole repertoire LOL.
BmanGorilla@reddit
Truer words were never spoken. A lot of grown adults still need to come to terms with it, too.
I say the same thing to my kids, one day they will understand what it all means I hope.
SEA2COLA@reddit
My Mom would also add "get used to it"
